U23 FS seeds released

I used to by a pro photographer and shot a bunch of catalogs, including the FAO Schwarz toy catalog, which involved a lot of casting and shooting of children of various ages. Many of the kids who showed up for casting were the same kids who went to Broadway, TV, film castings. I always thought that the demands of some of these projects robbed kids of ordinary childhoods, because you could see it reflected in their attitudes. For the most part it was the parents who wanted it, not the kids. I've seen the same dynamic on the sidelines of youth sports events when I'm watching one of my nephews play. But every so often at these shoots there'd be a kid who was genuinely born to perform and be on camera. But he/she was the exception to the rule. So I get what you're saying. There are occasions where the kid is so naturally inclined to excel at something and happy doing it that depriving him/her of those opportunities is the wrong choice. But again, exception, not the rule.
Definitely. There are some very overzealous parents out there. I've had the "we need (but really you, the parent, needs) to let little Johnny have his own career and want it himself" talk with a few. I've also had a couple "Ok, now you need to stfu before your kid hates you until they're 25" talks too. Parents don't like that from an arrogant, out-of-shape 25 year old with 0 athletic credentials, but it has to be done sometimes.

It is very much kid-to-kid basis. Some want it, hell, they should go. Some don't, and you know what? That's OK too.
Now, if your kid wants to go to Ohio State, it's an entirely different discussion...

To each his/her own. I say stay a kid as long as possible, enjoy high school and all the memories made. There's so many factors, most aren't ready emotionally to leave home prior to their senior year. Even the Lee's had the benefit of a family member in the area to live with, and give that family connection.

All that said, there will always be exceptions, and a family will do what they think is right most often.

As adults (that's an assumption) here, it's important to look at the bigger picture, and placing wrestling in the proper perspective.

Just curious. What is Robert Howard's middle initial? Don't forget that Robert E Howard was the creator of the most fearsome Hwy of all time - Conan the Barbarian!

He wasn't a HWT until they put him on the DT/AC plan....

All of Berge's matches can be seen here, Flo subscription only. He's won 10-0, 13-2, 10-0 so far. Every match he's gotten to legs and laced. The two he gave up in the second match was from a chest wrap, which he quickly reversed, got exposure points, and then laced him up.

Noticed that Cody and Casey are there, and also RBY was visible in the background of Berge's second match.
Watched a lot of RBY when he wasn't wrestling. He shows a ton of support for his team sometimes often very quietly. I was in the seats at PPG when he won in the blood round and he was very quietly excited. You can see Mark a lot supporting teammates after his big losses in finals, but he does a lot of similar type stuff. Good human beings and teammates.

I saw RBY in the tunnel at PPG during the finals, just hanging around the coaches and PSU's finalists. He seems like a kid who's really enjoying the ride, taking it all in. Was really happy for him when he AA'd.

Agree completely. Not the case here, as young RBY earned his way to AA, and the chance to "hang around the coaches"...just want to note that the coaches do consider "the experience" when deciding who goes along on away matches, Big Ten Tournament, and the NCAA Championship. As tikk says -- "taking it all in", and living the experience and atmosphere, can and does pay dividends later in a young wrestler's college career. We should never underestimate the softer side of what Cael & Co. do regarding the mental side of things. Make no mistake … these guys can coach.

My wife is still waiting for me to grow up.

Agreed on RBY being a sponge on the team front. Saturday night at PPG, I mostly hung out in Cael's Tunnel (copyright. When you personally staff the Finals with a PSU rep in 5 of 10 weights, four years in a row, they practically put your nameplate up on the tunnel wall).

As I watched Lion after Lion Finalist prepare for battle, all four coaches stayed active, rotating tunnel to corner duty, warming up each athlete and giving them the little bits of remaining coaching they needed.

The only Lion I saw down there who wasn't wrestling that night was Roman. He hung out the whole time, from Nolf to Nickal (Cassar had gone first, remember). Sometimes he stood, sometimes he took one of the folding chairs. He kept his mouth shut (like I did), and his eyes wide open (my fandom already had mine like that). He just soaked it all in, and his body language seemed to convey that he believed it possible to learn and improve simply by being there--by osmosis.

I like to picture him having asked Cael if he could hang out there that night, just to watch & learn. And I'd love to learn from him what he thought he learned.

No better mental preparation for being there, than being there.

I'm sure part of what he was doing was envisioning himself in the shoes of each one of the guys taking the mat that night. When you can absorb those emotions, it will do wonders for when he is the one taking the mat. I have little doubt he will be.
