That high c from space and follow through from Bo was beautiful stuff. Bo has fought off some powerful doubles here. That last ankle pick was also highlight reel stuff. Nice duck by Tcakulov and some really nice par terre D by Bo.

Four point move off a Bo double that Tcakulov flipped Bo on chest wrap. Tcakulov challenges but loses and that's it. I've seen those go both ways but Bo initiated.

Congrats Bo! Tcakulov was recently ranked 4th in world and he dominated him. Gotta figure if Cox wasn't in front of him Bo would be a good bet to be on the medal stand at senior worlds.

Kerkvliet for Bronze vs. Mongolia.
  • 5:40, Mongolia horses Kerk out for 1. 0-1
  • 5:05 Kerk reciprocates, Mongolia on blood time 1-1
  • 4:45 Kerk gets the dake treatment, (eye poke)
  • 4:17 Exposure for Mongolia after kerk tries a throw 1-3
  • 3:52 Kerk gets a leg on a reattack and finishes 3-3
End of 1st
  • not much action through the 1st minute of the 2nd
  • Stieber is Kerk's corner man, interesting
  • 1:12 Low single, and Kerk tosses him out for 1. 4-3 (and mongolia has a caution I missed)
  • Mongolia pushing hard, and clearly stronger, but Kerk has good motion.
  • 0:06 Mongolia gets a step out 4-4 but Kerk up on criteria because of the caution.
There is a challenge--Could have called a TD on the edge instead of the SO. Looong challenge.
  • Call reversed. They dinged Kerk with a caution. Mongolia wins on criteria. Weird
  • Stieber tosses the brick, and they throw it back to him. 7 sec on the clock, but not enough. Mongolia gets his hand raised again.

Kerkvliet vs Munkhtur (MGL) for Bronze
  • Contrasting body types here, Kerk looks to have a big height advantage
  • Kerk steps out. 0-1
  • Kerk gets a leg and has to settle for a step out. 1-1
  • Both guys look to go upper body but Kerk can't turn and is down 1-3
  • Kerk gets to a leg and converts, up 3-3
  • BREAK
  • Both guys tired, offense has disappeared
  • Kerk warned with 1:33 left. Logie in Kerk's corner not happy with that call
  • Kerk gets a low single, lifts, and gets a step out point, up 4-3,
  • MGL gets a step out point with :06 remaining but is behind on criteria 4-4 (and I'm not sure why)
  • Time expires but MGL is challenging whether the last step out should have been a TD; looked like Kerk was entirely out when MGL shot but what do I know
  • Score remains the same but Kerk slapped with a caution and that gives MGL criteria
  • Logie going ballistic; 3 seconds on clock, now clock rewound to :06
  • Kerk can't do anything with that time and MGL wins in criteria 4-4
  • I really don't know what happened there but at least no Mongolians were unclothed as a result

Not the same event in year three that it was in year one (when Lewis won)

There was nobody in Lewis's bracket with international chops. Bo's bracket (like most of the brackets this year) was loaded.

The event seems to be catching on, which would be a great storyline for Flo, if they were interested in storylines about this event.

Please tell me they aren't stripping this time...….:)

Feel for Bo, he's the Ringer of 92KG.

He could be a contender for gold but the best in the world wrestles for the US.

It sucks for Bo in a number of ways, right. DT is at 86, with Cox going down (I think this was confirmed) and Snyder (now part of the NLWC) is going 97. What does Bo do and how does the NLWC handle it?

That's OK, Kerk is still very young and has loads of talent and potential. We all know he has WW and Olympic aspirations.

He can sit next to Bo the world champ on the long flight home, and discuss how to get better, and achieve his goals.

In fact maybe he will consider learning from Bo as a wrestling partner in the same room, not to mention.... DT , Cael, Varner, Cassar, of course Snyder. Only a very slight step up from Singletary .....

To soon?

Sorry couldn't resist :)

How do Eastern Europeans and residents of the various Stans explain Bo Nickal’s hair, etc when they go back to their villages?

Of course I lost. The Americans unleashed this fearsome beast with hair made of flames and arms seemingly looking like soaked durum wheat but strong like steel cables!!!!

Screw the Olympics! Stay at 92kg.

I don't think Cox has decided what weight he is going to yet--there was a lengthy interview with KJ last week where he said that, anyway.

Taking the liberty to share this thing, that most of you may want to see.
A medal and a diploma, no cool sword, or shield or cape?
The highlight part is very cool!

Also did not know his middle name was Dean. Bo Dean Nickal sounds like a country western singer.

I think it's been confirmed next year is his last year as a wrestler. He's going to MMA after. So either it happens in 2020 or it doesn't.

https://www.espn.com/mma/story/_/id/26424694/more-college-wrestlers-fighting-on

"The plan is to do the Olympics in 2020," Nickal told ESPN. "Then start fighting."

In an interview with Track at the U23 tournament, Andy Hamilton asked him if he was going to stick with wrestling through 2024 and he said, "We'll see."

And what Bo says in the ESPN article is that the plan is Olympics in 2020 and MMA after that. What he doesn't address is what happens if he doesn't win a spot on the 2020 team.
