U23s Thread

Bo up yet?

Flo finally mentioned the tourney and briefly said they heard something happened to Berge. They definitely are not paying much attention.

Zhamalov is rolling so far in his final. Sad to consider what Berge might have been able to do with a different draw.

No news on Berge remains deeply troubling--sometimes I wish our coaches would open up just tiny bitty bit, though I'm sure they are focused on what Brady needs.

But--Bo has a big match (as far as wrestling competition goes in the scheme of life) coming up here pretty soon. Forgot about the qualification import--and chuckled at the takedown too. That you @crablegs1 ?

Troll game is strong in whoever it is

Mat B also beat Nico in the room once. We need to put a full court press on Mat B.
I think he's used up all his eligibility. I see him sometimes with his family where I work, so I can ask him--though I definitely don't want him to slap a collar tie on my, so . . .

Bo is officially in the hole!

Perhaps relative freestyle novice Richie Lewis winning a U23 World title before achieving NCAA D1 AA status took some of the shine off the apple....

Well Nomad from Flo did say if Bo wins he will qualify for Olympic team trials. I did read someone else post that, I think in a different thread, but not sure.

Zubairov likes his hands to the face. Can he make it to the end w/o being DQ'd? He's losing to Shahbazigazv 0-1 after 1.

Made it till the end, but loses 5-1 (so the Iranian Bo tech'd in the 1st round wins bronze)--not very different than DT's Budapest experience.

Now, the 86kg medals, then showtime!

Honestly - I was thinking that. Lewis won a world gold at U23 but didn't AA at NCAA 165.

Granted, it is Folk vs Free and 165 was DEEP that year but I would be lying if I said that didn't make me think U23 competition wasn't anything worthwhile and all the best wrestlers go from Junior to Senior and skip that level all together.

For comparison, Mekhi Lewis was a Junior Gold Medalist and his results at NCAAs a few months later spoke for itself.

It's Bo Time!
  • 4:54 Passivity on Tcakulov
  • 4:34 Bo attacks, gets a step out 1-0
  • Bo with lots of strong snaps, may pay dividends.
  • 3:16 Lefty Hi-C, and Bo fights for the T2 3-0
End of 1st
  • 2:30--Bo stops a shot cold w/ underhooks.
  • 2:11 Ankle Pick. 5-0
  • 1:50 Another Cael Special. 7-0
  • 0:45 Sick duck by Tcakulov. 7-2
  • 0:15 Crap, work called and I looked away. it's 11-2 now, and Russia is challenging
  • Call upheld (whatever it was), and that, gents, is IT! 12-2 TF
On replay, it was a double-leg chest-wrap situation, and they gave Bo 4, but could have been 2&2 I guess.

Bo Nickal, U23 World Champ

I'd venture to guess, OW too.
