Turner should have beat Luke? And best wrestler don't win tourney. Dang this is a tough room. I love coming on this board because I get to read great insight from the most knowledgeable fans in the country. But then spyker goes and says something.
Congratulations to Luke Pletcher - a worthy champion. That tourney is even tougher than this room and spyker himself combined, and you have to be a bad hombre to win.

You come on here enough to know better than to be taken aback by anything spyker says...

He's certainly not ignore-worthy as he is enthusiastic, entertaining, and seems like a nice guy. But discussing sports with him reminds me of talking sports with my son when he was six.

Best description of spyker I have seen yet. His questions remind me of the oft repeated question asked by kids on a road trip. Are we there yet, are we there yet, are we there yet repeated every minute or so. :D

I'm a big fan of Luke's (and I detest tOSU so that's a testament to the kid). Don't throw us all in Spyker's room ;-)

You make a good point. But Criteria is supposed to foster aggressive wrestling and not have matches last forever. I hate those WNO matches that go on forever and the wrestlers are just defensive and waiting for the other person to make a mistake and they counter and win. That kind of wresting is boring to me.
I get what you're saying, but that's bad rule making. If certain moves are supposed to be more valuable, then make them worth more points. If both guys have the same # points, then the match is tied.

The only benefit of criteria is that at least it's not the God-awful ball grab and restart with one leg up, and it's not a post-match bribed referee's decision.

The rare Standing Double Face Mush! Somebody call Foley.

PS, has anyone ever seen a better pic of Dake?

There are facemushes AND then there are FACEMUSHES.

JB exacting fan revenge for the Nationals ESPiN segments with KD

This match had the feeling of Rocky I (in fight action/story wise), and we all know how Rocky II ended (WTT later this year).
Rocky IV had the hero knocking out the obnoxious blond dude.

So what are the chances Manville goes Greco full-time?

You're having trouble letting go on this one...

Manville is a great kid to have in the program. I've seen him wrestle since he was little many times, seen the family all over. His decision to come here and wrestle makes perfect sense to me for so many reasons, yet all people want to do is pigeon-hole his decision to be about where he can start four years on a college team at what they think his weight is.

PSU gives him the chance to accomplish all of his goals in wrestling wise both internationally and collegiately, academically and career-wise. Where his path leads ultimately, who knows, but for a college pick I could not think of a better place for him to fit all his needs and that is looking at it from a non-PSU point of view as best I can.

Zain was giving love taps compared to that. Kid Dynamite's still looking for his contact lenses.
Bad to have inconsistent calls even worse when it is with the top guys.

So Molinaro is our Olympic guy, but Oliver slid by for the win ( Congrats ) and just squeaked by Zain. Say what you want, but the senior to be is right there with the best.......and getting better rapidly, part time.

Keep enjoying the process.

I was wondering the same thing myself. He looked really good and wrestled really smart in the finals against Bey. Whatever he does he's got my full support. Kid's a stud.

Put it this way, Spyker is like the Ohio State fans who say Myles Martin only loses when he decides to wrestle at 60%

I googled Wresting US Open and got mostly from Flo Wrestling but I can not watch any highlight because I do not have a membership. I got more highlight from googling Curling LOL.

You would think so ... but then again you'd think this pic would've answered that question as well.

Prediction: The Anvil will be the newest McIntosh -- he keeps leaving right up until he graduates from Penn State.

Heck Mason may win a couple NCAA titles and folks will still question where he fits into the lineup.

I found out that I need to watch more free style or they need to change some rules..Never have been so darn confused than I was today..Zain got robbed , Stanford got robbed in the finals with Marsen from Okl but may be I just don't understand free style rules..
Well, they are changed every 30 days.

Spyker is the guy staying w his dr cousin for nat duals in ok city but somehow was in state college for the hockey game.

He means well, but cant blame those not in on the gag to find him annoying.

Watching Zain's matches with that usual feeling of respect-admiration-appreciation noticed Logan Steiber in the background at most matches. I think Logan knows who the man to beat will he going forward.

Stieber is not in the same weight class as Zain.

I'm often wrong but it looked a lot more like scouting than casual interest.

Stieber is the defending World Champ at 61lg and has a bye to the US WTT finals and you think he is going to go up a weight and challenge JO, Tank, Zpain, etc. I wouldn't say you were wrong, I would say you were WRONG.

You guys keep referring to the "correct throw" rule.
Could someone please explain it to me?
Short version: it's a Greco rule intended to create action. You get points for an almost score (insert punchline here). In the past few months, UWW consolidated GR and FS rules, so "correct throw" is now a FS rule.

Longer version: be careful what you wish for, here is the video explaining it.

Huh ?

Only a brilliant wrestling mind like Foley could understand such nonsense.

Wow that's pretty heated

Wow. If Blue got two points for what happened at 7:50 of that video, we have a real problem.

This of course isn't correct, but what it seems like to me is if wrestler A initiates an offensive move and wrestler B, in an act of desperation to stop wrestler A's attack, tries to pull something out of his rear end and ends up on his back. The ref shall stop the wrestling and award the defensive wrestler (wrestler B) all points scored in this sequence by wrestler A. The reason being because wrestler B attempted a wild hair defensive hail Mary and despite the failure of the move he is deserving of all scored points because he tried.

Kinda like a participation trophy ...

I get it in Greco as point are harder to come by with no leg attacks ect... But the correct, throw, has no,place in freestyle. However on a positive note Nolf and Taylor's styles could be adjusted to take advantage of this monstrosity.

At least with a gag, you can describe the gag. Spyker is inexplicable. Or, is there an explanation? He's actually one of the wrestlers? He's a fan of another team, just seeing how long he gets away with it? He's a psych student, researching a thesis?

I didnt think freestyle could get any worse. 3 of of 4 matches end 10-0.
Iirc Molinaro made the last Olympic team by wining every match on criteria and never outscoring anyone.
A caution is not really a caution, but an award of the same pts that you can earn for a takedown.
They have virtually eliminated all mat wrestling; they have virtually eliminated all an differences in style matchups.
And now you are telling me that they are awarding pts for almost earnings pts.
This is INSANE.
Move over Spyker because I CANNOT STAND ANY MORE INSANITY IN THIS WORLD.
NO MORE, NO MORE, NO MORE.
For myself I now hope they do eliminate wrestling from the Olympics.
NO MORE INSANITY.

So you're ruling out the possibility that Stieber may be having trouble holding 61KG..

If you think he wilds out here, you should see him in the Den. 10xs more recruiting news, 10xs more things going on................

Im suprised Bob Anderson (among many others) hasnt blown a vein in his forehead trying to understand/calm him down/reach him/etc

He remains the message board equivalent of Cousin Eddy on 80s east german steroids.
