Wilkes Open

Have we figured out whether it's Greg or Daniel? I saw an interview once with him and he was asked and he said Daniel is his first name and Greg is his middle and that Daniel was fine. But I see people call him Greg a lot.

Looks like 26 guys sign up now, no cenzo, shack, conel, or kerkvliet wrestling unatched.
Kerkvliet is either signed up, or at least expected to go, to the Open in Texas.
Roar said no Cenzo in Texas so I assume he might be dinged up? I assume he would prioritize that tournament over the Wilkes Open.

I know if it is over a certain number it is considered a competition date, which we are now over. Does the Team then cover travel costs and entry fees for the attached wrestlers?

I'm confused. If all of these wrestlers can be at the Wilkes, why are we not at the Scuffle? Are we avoiding the competition?
Yes. iT's WhAt wE dO.

In seriousness, it sounds like they hadn't originally planned on sending so many to Wilkes, but something we aren't privy to changed--by then, my guess is the Scuffle slate was pretty firm.

Was wondering why the online list doesn't have our redshirts listed as unattached?

BTW whomever discovers when/where the brackets are posted please give a shout out with the URL. I have to update my competition spreadsheets :)

PS - I missed it at first but I think Flo will have it covered. https://events.flowrestling.org/event/b734c88c-b440-4114-ea18-6413f564f690/summary

Looks like PSU has more kids registered than the host school does... LOL im sure they will bring more fans as well

The registration for PSU guys is complete, as you can see. Most are aware, but in case any are not … there may be a couple guys that only wrestle a few bouts, and while I know of none now, we've seen it in the past where a wrestler withdraws, and that is possible Sunday. Still, a hefty portion of our roster will be there. Wish I could go, family matters are a priority.

That's the best potential matchup.

Next would be Berge vs. Pipher.

Them some potentially interesting matches at 149 with Hoffman and Karam joining Verk, Gardner, and Busiello.

A win over Karam or Hoffman would be good for Verk. And just hanging with any of those three would be a great sign for Busiello, considering the bump in weight and the time away.

I might be underestimating Pipher, but I have to think Berge handles him without much trouble.

hesitate to post this and I am sure Wilkes wants a big turnout... and my memory might be faulty... but...

For what it’s worth, I went about 10 years ago (my Dad was a Wilkes grad and a big wrestling fan). With really no reason for any crowd to be there other than wrestling parents, I can tell you there was almost no seating. The wrestlers themselves (and all their gear) were in the same bleachers as any fans. There might have been places to stand (I don’t recall - not an option for my father) and in the last 10 years there might be improvements, but just beware. If a few 100 PSU fans show up it might not be able to accommodate.

They're about to have an 'oh s**t, we need a bigger boat' moment

Don't mind me. I'm just PO'd that my annual trip to Chattanooga and only chance to see PSU live isn't happening and that there is no way to see any of the Willkes matches. It's also bad for the Scuffle which has already been damaged by the Florida dual tournament. All-in-all it's a downer and I really don't get it.

@PSUNATTY2020 I'm sad that you're sad.

Agree, completely ridiculous to participate in this. Makes no sense.

The kids get work with less of a chance of ..... Injury for the most part.

I think when we face lesser competition Cael gives each wrestler a plan of specific things to work on, postitions to test, etc... Especially for our newer non-national championship kids. Wrestling the same dude in the room every day has it's limitations. I agree most of our guys won't really be tested at all but there is still value and this year is an abberation. The Black Knight invite was slightly better but neither is a CKLV, Midlands or Scuffle, but for certain Cael has thought this one out.

Busiello would have been the best thing about this tournament. What a complete bust. At best, we have rematches of a dual just recently wrestled. At worst, Mark Hall wrestling a tournament with Creighton Edsell as the 2-seed. People have every right to be pissed.

I think it's funny that people get upset about this type of thing. Lighten up. The fact that people call it "ridiculous" that we have folks at this tournament is actually the ridiculous part. Sheesh.
This plus the complaints are emotional and unthinking. The Scuffle was always off the table due to the US Open -- we couldn't register the team until we knew who was going to DFW, at which point too late for the Scuffle. And we all know Midlands has no room (plus is a re-run of the B10 schedule and B10 Tournament).

So when looking at open dates for the last available competition -- see LINK -- it came down to Wilkes today or F&M Open on 1/4 or neither. Those are the only choices.
