Zahid Valencia

Spencer Lee for Hodge?

I’m sure the team of athletic department has rules regarding pot. This probably isn’t the first offense. First offense in house penalty most likely.

If a PSU football player failed 1 test you’d never even know. Or any school for that matter.

But why would UWW be testing him for pot if it's not on their banned substance list?

EDIT: NVM. Pot is a prohibited substance.

I didn't see pot mentioned in any of the release. People jumped to that conclusion. It could be some type of stimulant drug, such as ecstasy. Sorry if I missed the official marijuana statement...

Truth be told this is both disappointing and unfortunate.

Zahid is a huge talent, and a champion. I am relieved (not the appropriate wording) that this seems to be a recreational drug fail as opposed to PED. I don't condone either but would have a much more visceral and negative reaction to PEDs.

A definite negative end to an pretty otherwise illustrious NCAA career, and I expect him to rebound and remain a future force to be reckoned with in international freestyle going forward.

I hope he can turn this into a positive motivator and refocus his lifestyle on the restrictions it takes to play on the world stage.

He’s from a state where it’s legal for someone of his age to smoke pot. It would be crazy if that’s the thing that kept him from being a three timer
Counter argument would be: he attends a school with many California athletes. Surely he has been trained every year about the risks in AZ and anywhere else outside CA.

That said, we don't know the exact substance yet.

Geez. If it’s weed, this is just sad. I mean, he needs to follow the rules, but it’s still sad.

Brooks is the next man up in terms of trials qualification—is he now qualified?

Maybe. He is a top contender for sure. At this point I think if Spencer and Cenzo run the table and win titles it will be close. You have a guy who went 1-1-1 with one year left and a guy who want 1-1-2-1 with an undefeated senior season. If Spencer wins four he wins the Hodge as a senior going away.

"We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold... the sky was full of what looked like huge bats... We had two bags of grass, 75 pellets of mescaline, 5 sheets of high powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers, also a quart of tequila... a pint of raw ether, two dozen amyls... once you get locked into a serious drug collection the tendency is to push it as far as you can. The only thing that really worried me is the ether. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge."

Fear and Loathing?

Driving with a fly swatter was hilarious. Most everything after the desert driving scenes, regrettable.

Wow, it looks like Mat.com just took down and completely removed two separate threads on the forums (one in College and one in International) that were devoted to Zahid.

Censorship? Hacking? If they are trying to muzzle conversation, it is pathetic.

You should see how they handle Gable Steveson threads.

Pat Mineo saying that Valencia was allegedly using it before matches. Ya know, I thought he did that air guitar in the finals a little too hard.
