How about a Steelers / Brownies thread.....

IMHO, the difference in the game was that Nick Chubb is close to 100%. he is the second-best RB in the league (to Saquon) and made the CLE offense multi-dimensional. The Steelers DL had to respect the run which allowed them to pass. This is uber important in a slop game where getting five yards on first down creates a lot of flexibility on 2nd and 3rd downs.

The game was really two games as the first half was played on a decent field with the second half being played in a snow globe. That snow really shut down pass rushes as it was tough to get started out of your stance. Garrett may have had a dozen sacks if not for that snow.

I was never a Winston fan but he has been really great with the Browns on and off the field. The snow was really heavy and wet so the passing and catching were pretty special (except for Njoku's drop but he made up for it on the two point catch, which turned out to be huge).

Really fun game for both teams. Sets up a GREAT game in Pitt in two weeks. If you didn't see the NFL prime team doing snow angles it is below. Clarrissa Thompson does them in her white/cream outfit. She refers to Winston as "A national treasure". LOL

Incorrect! The two best running backs in the league are Saquon and Derrick Henry.

Saquon doing Saquon things

I’ve been checking Pro Reference for Hall of Fame comps. He’d be in good shape if just 2 more of those Giants seasons reflected his talent. He’d be around 8500 rushing yards instead of about 7000.

Anyway, let’s hope he stays healthy through this contract. He’s salivating being able to run behind Mailata, Dickerson and crew
Numbers shouldn’t matter. See Gale Sayers. You can clearly see that he is one of the best backs of his era. He does things most others cannot do and he has time to do more. Hope he does not get hurt because he is one of the best ever.

Donkoh and Ford out for the season

Ford was really coming on as the season went along. He clearly went past Beamon in the DT rotation a couple games ago. Team will really need Ford next season to be a run stopping DT anchor so hope "long term" is not an ACL.... Time for one of the young DT's to step up and get a good bit of playing time vs Maryland to be ready for the playoff game, so the team needs to get up big on MD early so that can happen. Gilliam, Artis or Blanding, time to step it up and take this opportunity!!

Really, same with Donkoh. He'll be an anchor of the OL in 2025, but whoever will be backing up Rucci at R-OT need to get some snaps there vs MD as well. The PSU running game has been pretty weak lately and this won't help it as Rucci is not nearly the run blocker Donkoh is.

@Dylan Callaghan-Croley , Would Williams now back up both OT positions, or will a player like Sexton move into an actual backup OT role? Also, is JB Walton, who has played both inside and at OT, still out or could he back up Rucci?
How has Izzard been doing? His role just got larger. Has Blanding seen any kind of meaningful snaps? Artis?

That dude ain’t sleeping to well….🙂‍↕️
Nothing but gratitude for the Giants execs for letting Barkley go. They never should have drafted him the first place -- it was like acquiring Secretariat and using him to pull a manure wagon. So glad he was able to escape and find a team that can give him the opportunities the Eagles give him.

Thoughts after rewatching Minny

By many metrics - including the ability to pass protect.

But as a runner, he has been superior and is why he has started the majority of the time.

Singleton is fast. But he goes down every easily. Good back, but a disappointment.

Allen has overachieved and has gotten the tough yards much more than Singleton.

Neither are great, but Allen has been much more dependable. And tougher.
Allen had 7 carries for 10 yards vs Minnesota, and 6 carries for 20 yards vs Purdue. That doesn't seem like dependable.

Lehigh dual - Dec. 8

What does Crookham do, that Davis can't get a feel for by training with his teammates and coaches and the NLWC guys?

On the chance they meet at nationals.

IMO that's more of allowing Crookham to get a feel for Davis, as Lehigh does not have the same depth and variety of training partners.
Crookham has Stanich, who has a couple impressive wins and only a loss to Mendez in unattached action so far.

1 of 11 on third down

Kind of like you making things up when you say the team is rarely competitive vs good teams. The team is 10-1. Did you count wins vs unranked teams in the 70s-90s?

The big difference between then versus now is that there was never a kickoff where we thought for sure that the game would end in a loss. Perhaps the one time that was true (87 Fiesta against Miami) we actually won the game. Fast forward to today and we think we have a team that could compete every game but for some opponents we always have to expect a loss. That is the Franklin versus Paterno factor. It's all about preparation.

There are a few references in this thread to the fact that Minnesota had a bye week and extra time to prepare. Why is that never true of Franklin teams? When we get extra time it seems the team starts flat, not better prepared for the opponent. I no longer think of a bye week as a positive. Not unless we start back with a cupcake game to warm back up. Under those circumstances the extra time is good to heal up.

Over the years Franklin has shown nothing when it comes to using extra time well. That is probably the most telling issue. For whatever reason it seems he prioritizes recruiting over player development.

Watch what happens when PSU and its opponent both get extra time to prepare in the playoffs.

It isn't like PSU players don't have the potential. They do. Plenty are in the NFL. Consider Levis. This seems to be about skills development and game preparation.

IMO you gotta get Davis in there to get a feel for him.

Playoff question for the board

Clemson would be 10-2 if they win. I don't think Carolina has good enough of a resume to get in at 9-3 with a win over Clemson if Clemson doesn't have a good enough resume at 10-2 beating Carolina.

I think both are SOL unless Miami loses to Syracuse and gives Clemson the ccg berth. Carolina got smacked by Ole Miss, 2 close losses (that went from great losses to a good and bad loss), and their ranked wins are iffy (Missou is severely overranked) and waning (A&M, who might not be ranked if they lose to Texas, but probably hang out at 23ish).

I think USCe's "they've won 5 in a row, if they beat Clemson they are a playoff team" is just the current SEC agenda push to get more teams in the playoff. It bolsters the Bama and Ole Miss resumes after both fell on their face.
All fair. I just fully expect a 3 loss SEC team to get in. I think that's Bama but if USCe wins...those 5 straight wins mean, in theory, they're peeking at the right time.
I think it's really tough this year to get to 12 as I just don't see the ACC or Big XII getting two. Big XII basically can't.
Though maybe A&M wins out and that's the answer.
