Franklin presser

Not awkward at all for Franklin. IIRC, Paterno did not get involved with Todd Hodne’s criminal case after Hodne was kicked out of school.
I was 10 at the time, so I do not recall how Hodne was handled. Did the press even know what was going on while it was happening. Seems like he may have disappeared without fanfare. Obviously, the availability of news was not the same at that time.

I still have no issue with the reports here
All he had to do was say "Please refer to the statement. Any questions regarding this week's game?"
they announced it before the clip. it was very clear in the statement released by PSU. Everyone knew Franklin couldn't and wouldn't take a question on the subject. They did it to get that clip so they'd get social media clicks.

Subliminally, he did. And in a more effective manner.

Subliminally, he said “If you idiots want to waste my time and everyone else’s time by asking stupid questions that have already been addressed in plain English by someone in authority over me, have at it. You can listen to the statement read over and over and over for a full ten minutes if you want and then I’m out of here. I have work to do.”

Other PA collegiate program discussions

(Moderator - numerous posts below relocated here from the Blaze thread)

Many kids may be fine with a spot start/backup role and be a fan favorite, learning from the best for a few years. Then transfer out for a shot somewhere else, like Bearclaw. No shame in that
I'm hoping some of the kids from pa that don't make the lineup transfer to lock haven. Would be nice to see them relevant again

Have you attended a World Series game?

2009 Phils-Yankees in Philly - Game 4. Great Experience except the Phils lost 7-4 and then lost the series in 6.

I'll say this. Back then, my father had a partial game plan and so he was able to get into the lotteries for tix and prices were not insane. It was a great experience, but it was not an $800-1600/tic experience. To each their own though.

10, 9, 8, .....

The second one may have been medical rather than Olympic
Micic took Olympic shirts in 2016 and 2020, and claimed 2021 as medical (though he probably could've gotten a 3rd Olympic shirt instead).

We might see 2 again someday -- but it'll be ezceedingly rare because the calendar won't line up for 3/4 of HS graduates.

OK State & related news - 2024-25

Here’s the full interview. Lol he about lost his composure on the RShirt question

Haha, can you tell if the Redshirt question asker was the same dude the interview finished with--the last guy asked "what are we looking at at 149?"
DT: "you mean the weight class?"
Guy: "yeah. Who are you looking at contending for that weight?"
DT: "yeah, we got some guys, some younger guys, who will compete." Silence. Interview ends. lol.

Fwiw, that DT answer was colder and less forthcoming than his answer to a different asker, about 133, to which DT named, in order: "Witcraft (SR), Cael (Hughes) (RSFR), Blankenship (Zach)(SO), JJ (McComas)(TRFR).

Stock market update

I'm basing my comment on what both of my kids and their friends were told by school counselors. I was made to be the bad guy by telling them that while it's important to pursue a career in something you enjoy it's equally important to choose a field where you can make a good living.

I bet half of all college students wind up in a relatively low playing job that had nothing to do with their major. Even worse a lot of them are graduating with substantial debt.

If you persuade your kids to avoid this kind of trap I applaud you.
Absolutely. When students reach the stage they start putting the nuts and bolts of their plan together in 11th grade, I go into all of their classrooms to make sure they're putting together a plan that's realistic and personally beneficial. One of my first messages is that it doesn't make sense to go into a crazy amount of debt for a major that won't actually lead to a financially stable future, so I urge them to look at specialized certification programs, associate's degrees, community college (for which they can transfer to 4-year college and will have saved about 40-50% in tuition and it's easier to get into top colleges from), and do their college search not by reputation but by the major/career that they plan to do. Then I spend the next year-and-a-half presenting them with all kinds of financial data, job outlook data, how their own academic achievement data relates to the training program/college info they're planning for, and information about multiple pathways to achieve their goals. I'm also very direct about their chances if their goal isn't lining up with the data I show them and I make them take the steps to put actual alternative plans in place so they're not scrambling if it doesn't go their way.

That's the difference between a school counselor and a guidance counselor who tells kids to just ... "follow your dream" ... lol.

Willie's Crystal Ball for 2025

Just for fun i went back and looked at my final team projections. This is what i had for PSU in previous final editions of Crystal Ball (i don't have a record of what i had them at preseason.)

2024 Projected - 169
2024 Actual - 172.5
2024 Crystal Ball

2023 Projected - 129
2023 Actual - 137.5
2023 Crystal Ball

2022 Projected - 129
2022 Actual - 131.5
2022 Crystal Ball

2021 Projected - 98
2021 Actual - 113.5
2021 Crystal Ball
(the biggest miss here was a 7.5 differential on Michael Beard)

i do know that my values tend to be a touch low on bonus, but not much.
Really not a valid comparison, I'm sure if we looked at your previous preseason ones that are conveniently missing it wouldn't line up so closely.

Who asked the question?

What info was the media expecting to gain by asking about this situation?

I understand the irritation over not getting quality info on KJ Winston's injury/return possibility or even the UCLA week "Singleton was absent" stuff, but what did the media think they were going to get by asking about 2 players who were dismissed from the team 10 or 11 weeks ago?

Wouldn't this have been better suited for the court house steps after their hearing?
It literally just broke what happened--I think two attempts to get them to speak about it is reasonable. Even if it's a "refer to the statement" answer that's their job.
Hopefully, this blows over and doesn't become a story because of how we handled it--we have a tendency to make non stories into major stories.

Trump’s Closing Argument Is His Strongest Yet

I suppose the first order of business should be to clean up the mess BIDEN / HARRIS made, and without a doubt, it is a mess.

https://chroniclesmagazine.org/web/trumps-closing-argument-is-his-strongest-yet/

In his closing argument to the American people, Donald Trump is returning to his signature issue, mass immigration, with a stronger emphasis on this theme than ever before. He has described the invasion of so many small American towns as an “occupation,” from which he promises speedy deliverance, leveraging one of the first laws Congress passed, the Alien Enemies Act. Trump’s message assumed new urgency during a trip to Aurora, Colorado, where the Venezuelan Tren de Aragua gang has seized control of local apartment blocks.

“We are now known, all throughout the world, as OCCUPIED AMERICA…But to everyone here in Colorado and all across our nation, I make you this vow: November 5th, 2024 will be LIBERATION DAY in America,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social that was also tweeted out at X.

This is powerful stuff. The left, like the boy who cried wolf, loves to call Trump a “fascist” who is fear mongering for votes. It is no longer effective, in large part, because figures in authority and in the media have done the opposite—they have downplayed and ignored the story.

Colorado’s Democratic governor, Jared Polis, the FBI, local police, and the craven, leftist national media, have all shrugged as narco-terrorists oppress American citizens in their own homes. ABC’s Martha Raddatz, in a now infamous comment, characterized the situation in Aurora as just a “a handful” of apartments operating outside the rule of law. The property manager shared a lengthy post explaining the gravity of the situation, if there are any real journalists remaining who care to look.
