The whole thing more and more resembles a gigantic Ponzi Scheme. It can only hold together as long as the dollar continues to be the world's reserve currency, which has been the case since the end of World War II.

But the world is changing and global order is shifting due in part to disastrous blunders on the part of our own government. And honestly, though I have very strong political convictions, the blindness in Washington has been a bipartisan affair.

In any case, this is why I said it will only take one big crisis to bring what has become a badly out-of-wack system to its knees. And when you look at the situation in the world today, it's not hard to see more than one potential candidate for such a crisis.

Totally agree. Politicians on both sides are mostly concerned with maintaining their incumbency. This means not rocking the boat, not making tough choices and continuing to spend money we don't have.

The ironic part is that we have people who complain about things like campaign finance and lobbying and then the same people demand that we give more power to the federal government. 50 years ago, nobody in business paid much attention to Washington DC. Today however, has the Feds have taking more control from the states, lobbying is a matter of survival for many companies.
Money follows power. You cannot simultaneously demand that more power be centralized to DC and then complain about the money that follows. This was the whole point of the Constitution and keeping power in the states with enumerated powers that limited Federal scope. Whenever anyone complains about money in politics, welcome them to the Libertarian party and tell them that they should be voting for whichever candidate wants the smallest Federal Government. Remove the power and the money will disappear.

Rumor: Home duals to be held at BJC beginning 2025-26

They will grossly out draw the basketball teams…. combined.
Yep, For comparison purposes I recently renewed by 2 season tickets to PSU wrestling for $580. 30 years ago in the mid 1990s 2 SEASON tickets cost $10 and yet there is a long waiting list to get season tickets. If they double the price next year and the year after do you think PSU wrestling will still not sell out season tickets? The correct answer is they will sell out. If you put out a team like Cael and the coaches have the fans will pay to be there.

Willie's Crystal Ball for 2025

I'm not saying I think Parker will beat Carter, just that it's not impossible to see Parker win. I have no fear of Plott beating Carter. I think Carter gave Brooks a run for his money in practice and he was smaller. Never knew Carter lost to Assad in high school. Sounds so crazy compared to what they became.
Assad has an impressive hitlist going back to high school, but could never string it together consistently. For a guy who never sniffed the round of 12, it's wild how many good guys he's beaten:

Starocci, Plott, Keckeisen, Venz, Poznanski, Ramirez, etc...

I still remember that great cadet bracket where Starocci upset Kennedy with a late takedown only to get sniped by Assad late in the next match. And then Assad went on to make the team and take bronze. Guys in that bracket:

Starocci
Assad
Kennedy
Julien Ramirez
Glazier
Rocky Elam
David Key
Nijenhuis
Foca

They are doing both.
They need to raise 21.1 more scholarship money to get to 30. how much will that cost? Rec's capacity is listed at 6,502. Bryce Jordan is listed at 15,261. If the statement is true, they will not sold-out BJC. At the current time do the seats in the lower bowl and center cost more the upper bowl seats? If so, there may be pressure on large donors to improve their seats.

Willie's Crystal Ball for 2025

Willie is trying to create drama and discussion for a season that’s pretty boring without a Penn state influence whether team or individual. If you eliminate PSU from any conversation, what’s there to talk about?

This will be an epic season for PSU. Caels message to DT and everyone else. Can’t me on…. Still waiting for to Taylor and Ruth to graduate? You ain’t seen nothing yet with the next wave! That’s what he’s pitching Blaze, Bo, and Jax. They will take the program to an even higher level! Enjoy the ride.

Have you attended a World Series game?

Have you attended a World Series game? I was going to add in person but that would be redundant although in many cases announced attendance figures are the amount of tickets sold and not those in actual attendance as it should be. But I digress.

I have not and it's a giant vacuum on my sports bucket resume and being a Pirates fan it may be a hopeless cause which may lead me to go to Baltimore, Boston, Cleveland or Philadelphia one day if I ever hope to attend a World Series game.

So what WS games have you been to?

I was at the 2009 World Series final game.

Only one game and that was it.

Rumor: Home duals to be held at BJC beginning 2025-26

Rec Hall is a way better environment for big duals but it seems the big duals are forced into the BJC these days anyways. I'm sure Kraft will consult with Cael about this ultimately.
I'd be okay if the big duals stayed in BJC simply for the attendance. But there's no reason Rider, American, Drexel, Indiana need to be in BJC.

Willie's Crystal Ball for 2025

I agree with the long, extended shots. Like Carter, he has become very good at sucking those thighs in to finish as a double. Wrestling 197 could definitely pose a problem finishing that way. However, he will be quicker than most of his opponents and has developed a pretty mean ankle pick.
Your points are valid. It will remain to be seen how he handles mat wrestling with these bigger guys. He's been a hammer on top throughout his career. We'll have to see how he does getting out.
He is bigger than most people think. He was walking around at 204 before his decent for Worlds. That weight is surely back on. I'm more worried about how he handles getting back to 184 after this year. That may be a challenge.
My prediction is that he underwhelms early, but is wrestling well by March. I would be surprised if he's not a top 15 guy by the end of the year.

204 is pretty small for 197.

1. This thread is ridiculous. He knew more on the topic than most on this board combined, but the peanut gallery throws shade.

2. To your debt point and the $1T of the US budget that is now just interest payments - Now you know why the Government induces inflation. Low interest rates = lower debt growth. Printing of money inflates prices/reduces value of dollar = national debt is functionally lowered (at the expense of any American with money in savings)
Lmao all he did was copy and paste off internet pretending he was multi millionaire but spent his days on a message board.

This is all you have to know about today’s college athletics.

“Kraft said there are 7,000 people waiting for season tickets so he is unconcerned about backlash from longtime season ticket holders who are giving nothing back to PSU currently.”

If you think the attitude of “milking those who don’t give back” isn’t going to rule the new Beav you are stupid. Kraft sees himself as a $$$ generator and that’s all. And takes 5% of topline. He’d be foolish if he didn’t.

Noon Games Thread

Uh, you've evidently confused me with another poster whose screen name begins with L and rhymes with Bando.

From the beginning, I talked up WVU, Illinois, and USC...all three of them...and still consider them all good wins.

In fact, the point I'm making in the post you quoted has nothing to do with Rutgers and everything to do with Wisconsin: namely, they're a good team and beating them in Madison, which hopefully we'll do, would be a good win.
Since you're obsessed with me
What makes 3-4 WVU or USC good?
His point is correct. People on this board downplay our wins they hype up teams like Wisconsin for beating MAC level opponents. Wisconsin hasn't shown they're good yet. Maybe they will against us but I doubt it. They don't have the talent USC does.

All good points.

It's an interesting picture these days...and not necessarily interesting in a good way.

On the one hand, as you suggest, I see help-wanted signs all over the place. Restaurants, factories, county government, retail stores...the list goes on.

On the other hand, most of these positions don't seem to be of the sort that lend themselves to long-term careers in support of families and communities.

Forbes published an article earlier this year describing the problems that college graduates are having in finding decent jobs after graduation. Of course the article also discussed how one of the reasons for this is that a lot of these kids are simply not grown up, and companies are looking for grown-ups or people who can at least come across as grown-ups in interviews.

To your point, however, I'm pretty sure most of our five married kids are not heavily invested in the stock market but they (and/or their spouses) are building good careers and providing good lives for their children by simple virtue of high character and hard work, the two elements that have always been the most important elements of success in life, no matter the prevailing economic conditions.

You said not to feel bad for young people today, but in a way I do because they grew up in a consumer society with a variety of comforts and privileges that were unimaginable in previous ages of history while being conditioned to think of success in terms of acquiring things.

Yet by and large, I don't know that most of them were given the most important thing of all, something you can't put a price tag on but is essential: a sense of meaning and purpose in life. I think that's the foundation of character...and character is the foundation of success in everything else.
Young people don't want to work in factories. I have a friend who is a painter who can't get kids to work for $20/hr because the work is too hard. They prefer to drive and deliver packages.

It doesn't help that guidance counselors tell kids to follow their dreams instead of finding a career where they can support themselves. How many music majors are working low paying jobs and complaining about student debt?

FWIW my kids are investing in their 401-k plan and maximizing the employer match. It's ridiculous to not do that. Unfortunately you'd be amazed how many people don't do that.

Your kids turned out ok. They are REaganomics success stories.

What is stopping the poor from following their footsteps?

PSU/tOSU at noon on FOX

This logic seems odd to me. A night time game that ends at 11 PM is a far worse traffic issue for fans than a noon game. The parking lots are, well, parking lots with no movement of the cars for a long time after the game ends. And you are then talking about driving back home into the wee hours of the night.

If I were going up on game day, I'd like 3:30 the most but would absolutely prefer a 12:00 PM game to one at 7:30 PM.

I drove up and back same day for the Bowling Green game this year (I live ~3 hours away) and had no problems.
Yeah, very few people want to drive 2+ plus home at 11pm or midnight--most would rather get up and drive early to get there
There's no right or wrong on preference but the biggest Big Ten games are usually going to be at noon. It's best for both networks as the SEC has the prime time spot and they're best aren't H2H
Oregon-Ohio State was prime time though so maybe we'll have some late night road starts
