I believe that a mutual good nights sleep is one of the must haves for marital bliss, and the situation is not so great these days.
My wife was complaining about not sleeping well... she typically doesn't sleep all that well, but this was worse or a "special cause" (to use quality control vernacular) that she attributed it to the mattress. When we bought our mattress 5 years ago we went with one that was somehow asymmetrical relative to the top and bottom. I forget why it is this way, but this means that we can rotate the mattress, but not flip it. I rotated the mattress and that didn't resolve it. My wife wanted to get a mattress topper, but I do not like super soft mattresses. She got one to try and last night I had the worst night sleep in a while. The mattress was hot and I woke up with a sore back and hip.
I'm looking for advice on how to handle. I think there are foam mattress pads that only cover half a bed, this is least expensive option, I guess. A new mattress might also be a solution, but it seems early (only 5 years). If going for a new mattress, do they make traditional mattresses with one side softer than the other? I thought about the sleep number beds, but I think they are expensive. Are they worth it?
