Ha...beat me by a second! I wouldn't be surprised to see another BIG trade today possibly involving ButlerSixers just picked up a wing from Houston, James Ennis. Ironically he was compared to Jimmy Butler by at least one draft site when he was coming out of college.
Looks like Fultz traded for Jonathon Simmons and draft picks
I knew something stupid like that was coming. Very Anti-Process.Looks like Fultz traded for Jonathon Simmons and draft picks

The process is over and the Sixers are clearly in win-now mode.I knew something stupid like that was coming. Very Anti-Process.
If you want to point to something stupid, it was trading up to #1 to get him. They likely could have had him without trading.
I have no clue about Simmons' contract situation though, so I could be way off.
So what will the roster look like now? There are a lot of moving parts, and it’s hard to keep track of.
Yep. If I'm a GM and Ainge is offering a trade, my first thought is "how am I getting fleeced here?"
tough to know what was the best move here. Fultz has been an absolute bust for the Sixers. He obviously had some talent before he was drafted. Will he ever recover from his injury, regain his shot, and live up to the #1 pick in the draft? Only time will tell. The Sixers have gone all-in, and in that case, Fultz was not helping them at all. They ended up with a player, and a couple of draft choices, so they go from a mystery that was not contributing to improving their bench and getting future chips.
I was against drafting Fultz (you can look that up in old threads), but have tried to advocate being patient with him since he encountered issues. The Process was about improving, both now and in the future, though in the early years the best way to do so was by being terrible. The Sixers have gotten lucky with being patient with injuries during The Process (Embiid), and not so lucky doing the same (Noel). I don't think anybody can make a qualified prediction on how Fultz would land on that spectrum.
Simmons is signed thru the 2019-2020 season. He's a UFA after the 2019-2020 season.
Sixers roster:
G- Ben Simmons
G- J.J. Redick
F- Jimmy Butler
F- Tobias Harris
C- Joel Embiid
BENCH
G T.J. McConnell
G/F Jonathon Simmons
F Furkan Korkmaz
C Boban Marjanovic
F Mike Scott
F Jonah Bolden
F Zhaire Smith (injured)
C Amir Johnson
G Shake Milton (two-way)
G Haywood Highsmith (two-way)
Isn't trading Fultz in order to get the financial flexibility to get parts for the rest of the season in addition to opening space to sign / resign guys next year? So getting picks in return is great. I have no clue about Simmons' contract situation though, so I could be way off.
Thanks.
Right now, I think the PF and C positions are much better than a week ago.
Marjanovic and Harris are better than Chandler and Muscala.
Losing Shamet hurts some, but hopefully Brand can sign some veteran free agents looking to join a deep playoff run. Need a couple of shooters and a strong backcourt defender.
The next six months will be interesting for this franchise. Hopefully Brand is up to the task.
This reminds me of the former #1 overall drafted pitcher the Phillies traded for years ago. Ben something. They punted in hoping he'd regain what had made him such a great prospect. He didn't.Getting ANYTHING for Fultz RIGHT NOW is huge.
While he possibly could have improved, the chances are pretty darn high that he would never ever begin to approach what he was hopefully going to be.
Smart move to be able to cut your losses and do so in a positive way. Take what you could get and move on instead of waiting several years and hoping.
Now just sign Wayne Ellington when Pheonix buys him out and you got a real good 3pt shooter off the bench when JJ is not on the court.
If Simmons can play perimeter D and stop some of these guards from throwing up 30 on us .... I am all in!
that's not a strength of Ben's. It's somewhat surprising as he has a size advantage over other guards, and has good foot movement when on offense. Unfortunately, most guards can drive pretty easily against him, and as such he tends to play off, which opens things up for the long-range bombers. Also, the teams often draws things up so that he ends up guarding more on the interior than on the perimeter.
i think he means the new Simmons
They were not getting TatumI hear you- I wanted to stand pat and get Tatum. I think the fact that so many of these really high picks bombed is frustrating. And they used TWO on Fultz. They got very little out of a #1, a #3, and a #5. They got two studs in Simmons and Embiid, but honestly, Embiid was kind of lucky. I think if they had drafted first they would have actually taken Wiggins. With trading Fultz, I'd have rather taken a flyer on someone else's "young guy that isn't working", like a Josh Jackson or a Malik Monk.
Fultz was driving everyone nuts no doubt, but he is 20 and there are signs of something there. They would obviously know more though.
So this whole process kind of says that banking on stockpiling a bunch of high picks and waiting for guys to develop, isn't necessarily the answer.
I don't think Butler is going to work here either, and cost a whole lot. Him walking may not be the worst thing. The assets are gone, and they could end up in cap hell pretty fast if he is signed.
