2018-19 Sixers Thread

I don't root for a basketball team (aside from PSU) so this thread has helped me slowly jump on the bandwagon. I want to thank all of you for taking the time to share on this board. I am rooting for the Sixers just to keep this thread alive! Good Luck gang!

Hopefully JJ shoots better.
I like what their trying to do with Leonard, denying him the ball with fresh legs and doubling him at times.

On the whole, I don’t give a darn but I’m starting to tune in and I’m excited for the team, city and the fans. Go Sixers. Win game 7. And then good luck v the Bucks.

Can’t believe the Sixers outscored the Raptors by 40 with weak diva Embiid on the floor
Yeah I’m earning the scorn. Is he having a tough series, sure. But he’s been great on defense (as seen in his on/off numbers), and I was definitely over critical before. I guess that’s what the sauce and blowout loss will do.

I think for me part of it is expectations. If we were still rocking saric and Covington, I’d probably be a little less frantic. But when we made the moves, it became an all in year. No more assets. Need to win now or else you risk losing Harris and or butler. Plus, you really just never know what embiid s health will look like long term.

I also think Simmons catches way to much flak. He’s 22. He’s playing his second year. What were curry, Durant, harden, Westbrook, giannis and whoever else doing at 22? Not being relevant. He has time to get a shot.

But yeah, my take on embiid was a real hot take. Wish I could have that one back.

I looked this up because I was curious:

Durant led the league in scoring his age 22 year with 27.7 ppg along with 6.8 rpg.
Giannis 22.9, 8.8 and 5.4 APG
Westbrook 21.9, 4.6 and 8.8
Curry 18.6, 3.9 and 5.8
Harden despite being the third option at OKC was at 16.8, 3.6 and 3.7. The next year in HOU his stats exploded.

Simmons finished the year around 16, 8 and 8. Simmons is clearly behind all of the game’s superstars in his ability to score, at the same time in his career, which I think is the major knock on his game. He is a more versatile contributor in the same time frame though.

Ben Simmons is a young player. They all mature differently and become different players. How many Kevin Durants are there ... one. And for a reason.

Simmon's career will continue to evolve. His future success will be due to his own efforts and ability to change / improve. I look forward to watching him. Hopefully he becomes an all time great as a 76er.

Slow start by the Sixers in Game 7. They missed their first 9 shots of the game. The Raptors haven't done all that well either, but they have the lead, 14-11, with 1:46 left in the quarter. Interestingly, in every game in the series, the eventual winner also had the lead at the end of the 1st quarter.

18-13, Raptors, at then end of the 1st quarter. Each team was shooting 22% with @ 20 seconds left. smh

44-40, Raptors, at the half. The Sixers were leading, but the Raptors ended the half on an 11-3 run. Neither team is shooting very well.

Looks like the sixers are gonna make this game 7 stand running an offense that starts with their 7’2” 280lb center out on the 3 point line which has lead to him shooting 3’s, fade aways, and runners.

Makes sense....

Embiid a no show in first half

did he dominate in the 1st half? no

was he a no show in the 1st half?
the most rebounds on the team, the 3rd most points on the team, and tied for the lead in assists on the team. Most teams would be quite pleased by those stats from their center

67-64, Raptors, at the end of the 3rd quarter. A quarter of runs. Raptors started the 2nd half on a run. Then the Sixers went on a 16-0 run. They took Embiid out at that point, and Toronto quickly scored 4 points. JoJo came back in, but the Raptors continued their run.

Game is still up for grabs. Portland had an excellent 4th quarter, on the road, to win G7 in Denver earlier today. Hopefully, the Sixers will mimic that pattern. ;)

I can’t believe Brown took out Embiid while on a 16-0 run in the 3rd. Changed to flow of this game

85-85, with 3:20 left in the game. Could be an exciting ending, or a frustrating ending, depending on which team you're rooting for.

He isn’t in shape. Hasn’t been his whole career. Look at him. He is completely gassed. He is just standing on the perimeter with his hands on his knees. We are constantly told “no one can guard him.” You can’t get him the ball in the post because he isn’t capable of posting up when he is tired.

Last 3 possessions by the sixers might have been their worst 3 all season. All 3 resulting in turnovers with near shot clock violations.

Agree. But I Don’t care. You can end the game there. Leave him in while he’s fresh. Worry about the fatigue later

And these last 3 possession .... terrible.

But for sure. embiid needs to grow up and get in shape

3 straight trips after the tie, and the Sixers had

- shot clock violation (coming out of a TO)
- either a shot clock violation or a forced shot as the shot clock ran out
- a turnover as the shot clock was about to expire

Unbelievably poor execution of the half court offense

Yet another offensive rebound....

Amazing what a train wreck Embiid is from a fitness standpoint.

Cost them HUGE down the stretch.

Pathetic job of offensive basketball down the stretch...is that on the coach ?

No. Simmons can’t shoot and doesn’t want the ball. Embiid is too tired to be effective. If Butler doesn’t create his own offense the team can not score. Not sure what a coach is supposed to do.

Butler ties it up with 4.2 sec left. TO, Raptors

Great play by Jimmy Buckets driving to the basket

Wow!

The Sixers did all they could to keep themselves in the game, but KL making a clutch shot on the move, getting the bounce as time ran out, that’s just tough. Keep their head up, and come back stronger next year.

OMG, Kawhi with a shot at the buzzer, that bounces on the rim multiple times before dropping in.

Final, 92-90, Raptors.

Kawhi is an amazing player, and carried the Raptors in G7

Disappointing to me, as a Sixers fan, but a great end of the game.

That was unbelievable. Rough way to lose. Great credit to the young sixers.

Couldn’t care less about pro basketball but Leonard walked twice on that last play

I know I know. They all walk.
