2018-19 Sixers Thread

Embiid balling his eyes out on the way to the locker room. Love to see how much that meant to him.

Hoping this is a wake up call and natural evolution of a young team.

Make health and nutrition a priority and make sure you get home court for game 7’s.

Agree. And Gasol is a grade a class act.

He did carry the ball when he caught it and took it at the top of key,no way will they call it.
I said months ago unless they clean up the last 2 minutes with their sets they we're in trouble.
Terrible way to lose, what a lucky bounce.

So you couldn’t care less but you watched the game?
Correct, as in I did not care who won or lost.

Does the last two minutes count as watching the game? The only two minutes I watched all season? I dunno. You be the judge.

Well, for some reason, you felt the need to come on here after watching two minutes all season long.

Many other posters here have been stalwart fans and don't appreciate your comments after a tough loss.

Well, okay but watching the last two minutes means you cared at least a little bit, no?

He took 4.5 steps when he caught the inbound before dribbling and 3 before the shot. Have watched it in slow motion multiple times.
He took some steps when he caught it that would have been called at other levels or 40 years ago, but certainly not today in the NBA.

The shot was completely legit and wouldn’t have been a walk at any level at any point in time. If you thought that was a travel, I don’t know what to tell you.

Those three offensive possessions had to have been the worst three consecutive offensive possessions by any team I’ve ever seen.

The final possession, you absolutely have to have someone guarding the in-bounds pass.

Re: Embiid, the guy was really sick early in the week and of course he was gassed, what did he play tonight, 45 minutes? More minutes than anyone else by several minutes. He hit both free throws very late in the game (unlike Butler). And he still almost ran down and blocked the final shot from the corner.

Bigger problems were only 8 bench points.....and only 4 rebounds by Butler in 42 minutes.

Tough tough loss. Both Game Sevens today could have very easily gone the other way.

Raptors won the game on the offensive boards. Seemed like they wanted it more.
Yep, they said on Sixers Post Game Live that between the offensive boards and turnovers that Toronto had something like 24 more possessions than the Sixers. Tough to win that way.

Ugh....great season with lots of positives, but now lots of questions about the path forward. It will be fascinating to see the upcoming moves by the Sixers. Raptors super fan Drake was so nervous about yesterdays game he stayed home and watched the game with friends while wearing a Sixers jersey to break the Raptors bad luck-jinx.

Absolutely a walk, picked up his pivot foot and took two full steps maybe 3 before a dribble.
Technically correct but you are NEVER going to get that call. not in the regular season and not with five minutes to go in the first quarter in the NBA. And this is true 40 years ago and it is true today.

76ers still have an incredibly bright future. Celtics may well melt down this summer and I'll be surprised if Leonard signs with Toronto. He's going to go back west.

Coaching staff has to figure out what to do with Embid, IMHO. It is great to have a big guy who can hit 3s but that takes him out of the paint. It allows the defense to be better positioned to get rebounds. He played very little time with his back to the basket, the traditional center establishing the low post. And, as the announcers said, in game sevens, players simply don't hit long shots. The shooting by both teams was bad. Hell, nobody from Toronto wanted the ball the entire game, except Leonard. So you have to win games ugly and in the paint. Sixers have the team to do this but never seemed to want to do that kind of dirty work.....and there are still three more teams better in the NBA than the Raptors (GSW, Portland, and Bucks). Denver may be better as well. While Leonard had a ton of points, he was 16 of 39 shooting. Game MVP to me? Serge Ibaka. After getting stitches earlier in the series, he comes out and gets 17 points on 6-10 shooting with 8 rebounds in 29 minutes for a +22. No coincidence he is one of the most playoff experienced players in that game.

But fear not, 76ers fans, you have two great players who other players want to play with. They need to mature and to process game 7 cultures. They got beat by two playoff experienced players: Leonard and Ibaka. They just need some time. They'll be even better next year.

If it makes everyone feel better, the NBA will release their "Last 2 Minutes" aka..."Here's where we screwed up in the most critical part of the game but can't do anything about it" report where they will say Kawhi traveled and they will move onto the Conference Finals.

That being said...they would NEVER call that on what is basically a non shooting move.

The modern reliance on the three is the reason very few traditional centers are around anymore.

If Philly does sign their free agents, I think they are the best team in the east next season. They barely got their chemistry going this season with the injuries. They will only get better as a group.

I agree...but most of those teams have an awesome rebounding partner. The Cavs, for example, had Love on the perimeter but also had a rebounding machine at PF in Tristan Thompson (and James who averaged 8.5 RPG). GSW have Dremont Green. The difference in yesterdays game, to me, was that the Raptors (not a big team) dominated the paint. This is against a team with a 7-2 forward. When Embid is on the perimeter, they are weak in the paint. On defense, Raptors put Gasol on the three point line drawing Embid from under the basket on that side of the floor as well.

Do they sign Redick?

He'll be 35 next month, and his shooting declined a bit this year (under 40% from 3-pt, but still 39.7%) and he averaged 13.4 in the playoffs, less than his regular season average of 18.1; teams defended him well.

Gotta have outside shooting for this team to take the next step. On the plus side, Redick prepares well and competes hard; he's been a plus.

if not, they need an older presence. JJ really stepped up on the playoffs. he's a lot like Kyle Korver (AKA "Fourth Korver" in CLE). 76ers, IMHO, lack deep playoff experience. They need to add a senior player who is a locker room leader.

Based on his words after he signed this last one year deal, he said he was willing to move anywhere in the country and wasn't tied to being near Brooklyn. He was very close to signing with the Pacers. Doesn't look like he's willing to give a discount to the Sixers who overpaid him two years ago ($24 mil?). If the Sixers can keep Butler and Harris, think they have JJ's Bird rights so they can pay to keep him. It's just a matter of the owners being willing to pay the tax bill for being over the cap. The franchise has increased in value from the ~$300 million they bought it for to $1.8 billion today. They can afford it. Would be nice to bring him off the bench as a sniper. Sixers need a backup center who can play in the worst way.

I was very impressed with Brown’s post-game press conference.
totally agree. He got up there, faced it square on, used it as a learning tool and supported his players/organization. I'd hire him as a headcoach anytime. I got tired of Lue, while coaching the Cavs, who always looked afraid.

I thought he made good decisions personnel wise in this series given what he had on the bench.

My question is...what do they change from an offensive philosophy. This offense he is running now doesn’t work. They have to plan that Ben doesn’t get a jumper. If he does great, but considering the distance of the shots he took this year went DOWN from last year isn’t a good sign.

With the open bench spot Monty left, I would love to see them bring in an offensive minded coach to change that offense around. They are going to have to do it soon so the free agents they are looking to resign/sign know what direction the team is going in.
