2018-19 Sixers Thread

Three things about the Warriors: They play really good team defense. They make you work your ass off keeping up with Steph and Klay. They’re the best passing team I’ve ever seen.

They’re a better team with Durant on the floor, of course, but more fun to watch when he isn’t. I probably dislike Green more than any player other than Kyrie Irving but, my goodness, he’s a fabulous basketball player.

The best news from last night is that pick we traded to Boston in the Fultz trade ended up landing at 14 -- probably as good as we could have hoped (short of it being the top pick and getting to keep it).

Draymond’s a punk but he’s OUR punk.

Lowry had a great game tonight scoring 30. The turning point for me was Tor 100 Mil 99 and Lowry had a wide open look at a 3 and passed it up. Why, he was on fire. Bucks score the next 9 and the game is history.

Best passing team you have ever seen? Then you ain’t watched Celtics and Lakers of 1980’s!

I have, and you make a good argument, but I’ll stick to my statement. When did James Worthy become a great passer? KAJ was pretty good, though. Magic and Bird (and Rick Barry, different era) were fabulous passers, but the Warriors, each of them, including the reserves, can put the rock where they want, when they want.

Jim, I know you’re a hoops man. I’m shocked.

What about those Knicks late 60’s early 70’s. They were notorious for the ball never touching the floor on many a possession?

I know you had to love those teams.

Yeah, them too. Absolutely. Hey maybe I got carried away, but the Warriors play great team ball, always a step-and-a-half ahead of the defense.

Agree...they play a great offense...in and out, east and west...low post, deep threes, good passing....they've got it all. They are just so deep and talented. The three point shooting creates the need to play defense five feet outside the arch which opens up a lot of floor. Then the drive to the hoop and have an option to dish to someone for a baseline 3 if the defense closes the lane. It all starts with Curry making threes from 40 feet and goes from there. By far and away the best NBA team I've ever seen (given the 3 point line has changed the NBA forever).

Draymond is a clown but he sees the court well and he’s smart. During the post game last night, he gave you some insights. I actually agree with Stephen A in that they aren’t as good clearly without Durant but all the KD ISO gets removed and they play like they used to. I must say I always appreciate Iguadola at this time of the year. A really wonderful player who could be on my team any day.

Five straight Finals appearances for the GSW has brought up much talk of the Russell-era Celtics. Bill Russell, the guy was something, the complete package off- court as well as on. The Celtics, it’s amazing what they accomplished fifty, sixty years ago.
Sam and KC Jones, Cousy, and Havlicek were a pretty strong supporting cast.

And they played really selfless team ball.

I read somewhere (probably Simmons) that when Russell was player-coach the team basically coached themselves. When they were winded, they took themselves out. They shared strategy in the huddle. They totally bought into the team aspect of the game. In some sense, I see the same kind of attitude in the Warriors, same way you'd see it in the Spurs earlier. Every player is on board; the way the GSW bench has responded to all those injuries is really, really admirable.

Draymond has really “upped” his game in this last series, he played some absolutely fabulous basketball.

With all due respect to the older Celtic and Knick teams, I also think this Warrior team is the best passing team I’ve ever seen BECAUSE the game is so very much faster these days and the players are so much bigger. Olden days or current days, teams playing unselfishly are fun to watch and easy to root for.

Yeah, that seemed unlikely after the Bucks won the first two games of the series.
some very good commentary I heard on the radio this morning: they are little the Bucks shoot from the 3 point line and protecting the paint. Bucks haven't been able to respond.

Sixers approaching draft with pick #24, and then 4 in the 2nd round -- overall picks 33, 34, 42, and 54

Seeking outside shooting and depth in the front court?

IMO, backup center is too important to rely on a rookie. Have to use that MLE to sign a veteran center that isn't a sieve in the playoffs when you have to sit Embiid. Bolden has the profile of the perfect Sixers backup center, he just isn't good enough right now. You need to develop him. Beyond that, need wings who can defend and shoot the 3.

yeah, apparently the % of assisted baskets in game 2 was off the charts (very high % of baskets made were linked to an assist as opposed to putbacks or one-on-one action)

Individually and as a team, the Warriors have a very high basketball IQ. Say what you want about Draymond Geeen snd DeMarcus Cousins, they are very intelligent players. They know how to win. Cousins was the difference in Game 2.

Interesting article on possible Russell/Sixers situation

Would like to see Russell in a 76ers uniform ...

I was disappointed that the Sixers were unable to land Russell in the 2015 draft, as he seemed to be their favorite player in the draft. (Russell went to the Lakers, with the #2 pick, and the Sixers took Jahlil Okafor with the #3 pick.)

That said, I would hope that the Sixers would not obtain him. In the playoffs this year, the Sixers took advantage of Russell in pretty much each game after Game 1.

I like his offense. The 76ers need more scoring especially with the offense Brown prefers. They did take advantage of his weak defensive play.
