2018-19 Sixers Thread

Pretty funny....Tatum is from St. Louis so he tweets and has a post on Instagram celebrating the Blues win over the Bruins for the Stanley Cup. Celtics fans are roasting him. Interesting that his twitter account gives no indication he plays for the Celtics. Profile pic and header are both him wearing Duke uniform. That Celtics team seems like a real tight knit group.

I saw that article too. Definitely had them in the ropes. A win in Game 4 would have finished them. Of course, we would now be talking about Milwaukee possibly beating GS

Game 4 is where they lost the series. Man- they had them on the ropes. Oh well......

Just read a piece that they are looking at Horford.
Horford is a pretty obvious good player. He won’t need the ball as much as other guys to stay happy. The obvious inferred meaning is that the Sixers aren’t feeling secure about one or both of their impending FAs.

Horford >>> Harris. Harris had nice stats but every critical/clutch shot you knew was going to be a miss.

I’m not sold on brogdon. I’ve never seen him play and he comes from a small market team. Plus he beat out embiid and saric for ROY, so...
How much convincing do you need when said player is a member of the very exclusive 50/40/90 shooting club?
That is to shoot over 50% FG, over 40% 3-Pt, and over 90% from the FT line. Truly elite shooting.

Brogdon finished the season with 50.5% FG, 42.6% 3-Pt, and 92.8% FT
And he's a smart player, a leader, and a great citizen. What is not to like?

The issue with Horford is that he will be someone's plan A and is looking for a four year $100MM contract. The Mavericks are said to be very interested in Horford.

With Tobias Harris's quotes about what he is looking for in a free agent destination, I'm very optimistic that Jimmy and Tobi are both returning.

What are the most important factors in your free agency decision?
“A great organization. Obviously winning’s important for me, star players are important,"
“We were a couple bounces away from going to overtime versus the champs now," Harris said, reflecting on Kawhi Leonard's buzzer-beating game winner in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference semifinals against Toronto. "We didn’t have enough time to really get the full chemistry as we probably would have wanted to. But at the same time, it’s one of the most talented groups of players I’ve been a part of."
When the interviewer asked him about playing for his hometown or whatever Tobias says “location is location” and mentions how those other 3 things are most important.

If the Sixers can run it back with the same group and add a competent backup center so they aren't bleeding points every time Embiid sits, they have a very good chance to get their first chip since '83.

Who do you like that is available? I don't see anyone in the draft that fills that need. But you are correct that when Embiid is on the bench, the lane is wide open.

No, you can't count on a rookie center to be a part of your 8 man playoff rotation. It's going to have to be a vet like Dedmon, maybe Nerlens, someone they can bring in for a reasonable salary.

Sixers land Matisse. Looks like they are going straight defense with this pick considering this offensive description:

Extremely limited overall offensively. Averaged just 12.5 points per 40 minutes over his four-year career. Not an advanced ball-handler. Limited to mostly transition runouts and spot ups. Lacks a degree of aggression overall. Feel around the rim as a finisher isn't great. Will he ever be more than a fifth option on offense?

Sixers trade Jonathan Simmons and #42 pick to Washington to free cap space in order to sign free agents. So basically they get nothing back except cash.
