Wow, interesting group (and man do I feel old). My wheelhouse is really mid-late 80's going forward and with that, here are my top five:

1. Radiohead
2. Depeche Mode
3. Eurythmics
4. LL Cool J
5. Rage Against The Machine

Having said that, there is no way Bon Jovi doesn't get in - them/he and LL Cool J are sure bets. The Cars are pretty iffy but if it's them or one of their contemporaries (Depeche Mode), I give the nod to DM. Can make a good case for everyone else though. Still want NIN to get in....

I'm pretty shocked The Cars are not already in.

The Cars
Bon Jovi
Radiohead

That said Radiohead was always at best an alternative act, despite being one of my favories.

1. Nina Simone - seriously that she isn't in already is a prolifically insane injustice
2. Depeche Mode - one of the most influential 80s/90s bands
3. Radiohead - never really liked them, but have to admit their influence on R&R
4. Moody Blues - one of my favorites
5. Bon Jovi - the 'feel good' entry

The Moody Blues, The Zombies, and The J. Geils Band. And when will Jethro Tull get in.

could make for some interesting reunions.

- Dire Straits hasn't performed together since 1995
- Richie Sambora hasn't been with Bon Jovi since 2013
- The Cars had a brief reunion in 2011, but nothing since
- Vince Clark hasn't appeared with Depeche Mode since he left the group he co-founded in 1981
- Rage Against The Machine hasn't performed since 2011, and frontman Zack de la Rocha has been avoiding almost everyone for years

Part of this I think is 'Who is going to show up and put on a good show?,' for better or worse. Radiohead may likely not show (who would induct them - Bono?) and Rage would be maybe one or two original members (I think Tom Morello would probably show because he's a gifted guitar player, smart, and loves a chance to promote his various causes). No idea about the others but as long as Dave Gahan from DM is there, I'm good.

As a guitar player, I hope Dire Straits gets in. Aside from the iconic "rock and roll" songs attributed to the band that inspired the HOF in the first place, Mark Knopfler has always been a big influence and inspiration for a lot of players (sultans of swing was one of the reasons I wanted to learn to play). The guy is just such a great player and song writer. A fantastic musician with an incredible, unique technique and sound who can play any style of music.

For the period they performed The Cars put out some quality music. They would be my favorite of the group. Wasn't a big Priest fan - but they had a very good following and we're talented.

Radiohead
MC5
Nina Simone
Rosetta Tharpe
Zombies

I could make an argument for some of the others. Those 5 are most deserving imo

Every time the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame comes up, I mention the absence of the late, great, Johnny Maestro, lead singer of the Crests and The Brooklyn Bridge. The Crests (late 50's and early 60's) were one of the first interracial groups, had a number of top 20 hits, and sold a million records with Sixteen Candles. Johnny added to his resume with the Brooklyn Bridge in the late 60's, earning gold again with The Worst That Could Happen. Johnny continued to perform through the decades until his untimely death from cancer at age 70 in 2010. Sadly, the Hall is more about money and politics than quality. Paul Simon and Billy Joel both strongly support Johnny's induction. It is long over due.

This is one of my favorite Crests hits. From 1959, The Angels Listened In.

Here is Johnny 12 years ago in a live performance with the Brooklyn Bridge singing Welcome Me Love.

Getting to the point where it will be easier to just say who's not a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominee.

Really, only Link Wray and the Meters had any real staying power and were happy to create a new groove. The pickings are getting slim for this honor.

Bon Jovi belongs in the Hall of Horrible Lyrics and Terrible Vocals... cliche-pop rock...

Radiohead
The Cars
depeche Mode

The Zombies made appearances on my famous party-tapes back in my PSU undergrad days... alas Rod Argent's obligatory self-indulgent keyboard solos evoke eye-rolls unless enjoyed in very small doses...

Judas Priest was simply a hard rock juggernaut with a tremendous body of work... absolutley deserves to be in there but they won't get in...

Moody Bores = ambien that's dispensed through your speakers

The Cars mid/late 80s MTV commercial success (ie: Heartbeat City) overshadows the important role they played bridging the 70s (largely) lame rock to the 80s... their debut album was revolutionary and simply smoked - nothing else like it at the time - and it helped usher in 'New Wave' to FM AOR stations... some are quick to file them under New Wave even though they were much more a rock band (albeit very experimental) than a typical New Wave act ... Eliott Easton is one helluva crunchy player (and a lefty!) and David Robinson is the best drummer that-you-can't-name (Modern Lovers, anyone?) ... and Ben Orr? I'm 107% hetero and I can't deny I have a man-crush on this dead bassist...

All Mixed Up is among my favorite rock tracks of all time...

I agree on Nina Simone. Most people on this board probably don't know of her or her music. I say 90%.

Who you got?

I think LL Cool J gets in no matter what. It's just going to happen.

As far as my picks from this group: Bon Jovi, Cars, Moody Blues. As I'm not familiar with all of the Alternative Bands, I don't have a position on some of the other groups. I think it has always been a little fuzzy as to what the deciding criteria are.

Question: do those who were nominated last year, for example, remain on the ballot? I'm thinking about Janet Jackson in particular. I think she should be in.

I'm always dismayed at the bands who are not in. I don't see this group discussed at all, and I was a fan in the 1970's: Grand Funk Railroad
