No no. You are right. Steve was special on the drums. Many have been. Carl Palmer is special and unique as well. However my favorite of all time is Charlie Watts, who not many generally credit as a great drummer. However, I've yet to hear anyone carry a beat like Charlie.I am drummer and I put smith ahead of dunbar. I think ss is on another level. But everyone has their opinions.
Modern Drummer magazine, which is the drummer's bible voted him the #1 All-Around Drummer five years in a row. In 2001, the publication named Smith as one of the Top 25 Drummers of All Time, and in 2002 he was voted into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame.

Charlie was the best and coolest 3 beat drummer to walk the earth.Charlie Watts is one of the greatest drummers who ever lived, which I have said repeatedly. He is flawless as a time keeper, and he is impeccable with his choices of accents, fills, and what to play, and when to play it. People don't want to credit him because he does not come from any kind of school of flash, or call attention to himself(Moon), or play a million miles an hour, or play complicated time signatures very often.

Very true.everyone has their favorite,. i like stewart copeland of the police.
Some would be surprised how much some of these bands like to discuss old times. From the Outfield to the Hooters, it was awesome to meet these groups, and get their gig ready to go. Journey was just always special and my favorite band. It would be fantastic if Steve would reunite, but I honestly don't think it will happen. Neil is actually pretty available, and has always been open to the idea, as most of the members have been. Steve's been on stage twice that I know of an still has the pipes. I've been in contact with Steve for over 25 years, but only send him best wishes for holidays. Don't think I wouldn't love to ask about a reunion. Lol. I'd never even think of doing that. If you want info, contact Neil on fb. Many times he responds to fans. Neil got married about 2 years ago, and he's just the absolute best there is. A reunion would be a dream, but I can't see it, and that's just a shame. They were the very best.

jeff was a great players. he was a studio drummer who could play anything. some people consider steve gadd to be the greatest studio drummer of all time.My favorite drummer of all time, and (with apologies to everyone including my good amigo's who love Neal Peart) who I consider the greatest drummer of all time, is the late, and truly great, Jeffrey Porcaro.
SHE did have some influence on the folk singer song writer scene. but over the cars? they were one of the best pop bands for like 15 or 20 years. unique sound. a million big hits.Joan Baez - Rock and Roll? At any rate, the flaws of this hall seem to be a lack of established criteria. Some nominees have no more name recognition than your local bar band. Given this, how influential could they really have been? To whom?
Figured I'd bump this up. Looks like Neil reaches out to Perry on Instagram regarding a reunion of their friendship. Possibly for the R$R Hall of Fame. It's on Instagram, neilschon. Sorry, can't post the pic on mobile.

Name recognition to whom? To you? Just you know the name of a band doesn't make them good. I happen to think Yes sounds like elevator music and influenced nobody. But that is my opinion. Name recognition for the masses means nothing to the quality of the band or their influence.
Yes has influenced generations of musicians in different genres. One of the most influential bands in the history of rock music.Wow, I can guarantee no one has ever heard The Gates of Delirium in an elevator. Nice try though. Ask Phil Collins and Geddy Lee how Yes influenced other bands.

Before that, I believe his last public concert was with Journey, at the Bill Graham Memorial, in 1991 That was an appearance that was up-in-the air until the day before, or the day of, the concert.
Thanks Tom, it's been a long wait. This is the lineup that played on the Union Tour in 1991. The other member I might invite is Geoff Downes. He has played on a few albums and ranks 9th in live performances with 401, right behind Trevor Rabin at 416.
You're probably all over this Relayer, but I saw the other day that Rick Wakeman had changed his mind, and will now be at the induction ceremony in April.
Yeah, I'm not holding my breath on a reunion. Steve is a funny guy about this whole situation. Only he really knows why he does what he does. It's damn frustrating, but it's his life.
I hope Steve can step back and look at the bigger picture. Many, including me, were very disappointed that Peter Cetera wouldn't perform with Chicago last year. These guys aren't getting any younger, and they need to do it for the fans who supported them for so long.

newly eligible in 2018:
Beck
Dave Matthews
Outkast
Counting Crows
Sheryl Crow
Maybe a chance for some previous snubs to get in. Assume they would put in the first two on the list. Not sure what they would do with Outkast or Sheryl Crow. Seems like they should be likely candidates, but given the sheer stupidity of the process who knows.

I don't see how the Dave Matthews Band doesn't get in. Still going strong 25 years later. I doubt any of the others on the list could sell out anything more than a theater these days.I don't know that any on that list - save maybe Beck - would be first ballot types. I would rather see Joy Division/New Order, The Smiths, The Cure, Pixies, NIN, and Tina Turner in first.

No. I'm just saying they are more relevant today than the others. They should get in because their first three albums were great (with others that are very good), a lot of top well written songs, and most of them are also tremendous musicians. So, it's about concert ticket sales? I do think DMB is worthy, but just because they're the heir apparent to Grateful Dead and Phish doesn't get them in IMO.

I can't think of a rock band that defined a decade the way that the Dave Matthews Band (and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, to an extent) defined the 1990s. They're as first ballot as it gets for their musicianship and the uniqueness of their sound alone.
Relayer, today it was disclosed that Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson, of Rush, will be the presenters when Yes is inducted.
Other presenters announced:
Jackson Browne will present for Joan Baez
Neil Young will present for Pearl Jam
No word yet on who will present for Journey, ELO, Tupac, or Nile Rodgers.
