Rock & Roll HOF 2017 Nominees

From that list I would go Zombies (Odessey and Oracle was one of the greatest albums no one ever heard - well, except for one song) and Yes. How can the Moody Blues not even be nominated?

I have to admit to owing The Zombies a debt of gratitude. Many was the time in my younger life when a memorable night began with me asking her "What's your name?" and some time later "Who's your daddy?"

My 5 nominees are:
Yes
Yes
Yes

Relayer - sorry I didn't get a chance to reply to the Bethlehem show but it was awesome. Jon's vocals were incredible and never expected such at his age. Rick's work on And you And I, Heart of the Sunrise and Awaken was the same as when I saw them in 1979. Both the Drummer and Bassist were beyond expectations as well. Lee Pomeroy can play! I like Trevor but honestly, if you put Steve in this band, it's like listening to Yes in the 70s again.

The Keswick was such a fun night too. I agree with your comments. Was hoping for something from Talk, because both Jon and Trevor enjoyed making that album. Might have to take a ride to the Borgota next Friday!

Doesn't seem right they put Yes in now when they had years to rightfully induct them and give Chris Squire his due. RIP Fish

At least MC5 is rock and roll. Yes....not really sure what they are.... ;)
Agree, MC5 did make an honest attempt at rock and roll. I just don't think they were very good.

Yes is a collection of prog rock fossils.

The fan vote has been extended until Dec. 15. The link to vote was in my original post

The current standings of the fan vote are:

1. Journey
2. ELO
3. Yes
4. Pearl Jam
5. The Cars
6. Depeche Mode
7. Steppenwolf
8. The J. Geils Band
9. Tupac Shakur
10. The Zombies
11. Janet Jackson
12. Jane's Addiction
13. Joan Baez
14. Chaka Khan
15. MC5
16. Kraftwerk
17. Chic
18. Bad Brains
19. Joe Tex

Obviously, there will be discussion regarding those left out. I'm going to contribute to that discussion by mentioning The Commodores (with Lionel Richie), Foreigner, and Moody Blues. I'm glad to see Yes, Journey, The Cars, and ELO on the list.
Guess Who left out as always.

Joan Baez is not rock and roll. She used the platform to protest, and put herself and her cronies on a pedestal during her career. In my view, not any kind of honest or true way to perform music. Can't stand her.

This process continues to be a fundamentally unserious exercise.

Continual snubs for the Moody Blues, the Smiths, the Cure, the Pixies and countless others. Yet apparently Jane's Addiction was better than all of these bands, along with something called Kraftwerk. (Said nobody ever, except the RnR HOF)

The Moody Blues being snubbed is also a joke.

Context, sonny, context.

The MC5 is great, and Yes is great. They do two totally different types of music. Neither of them are "not good" in any way shape or form, they were BOTH amazing.

In order to do music at this level, you HAVE to be great. For example, The Pixies did nothing for me: I have heard 100's of songs by them, and I just don't get it, but many people think they were awesome. I have a hard time getting past people who hate men, like that bass player of theirs. Not my thing.

I'm thinking Moody Blues, Boston, Jethro Tull, Kansas, Mountain and Guess Who with Jim Marshall in the non-performing category for his fantastic amps. That being said, I guess, I'll vote...

Yes
Cars
Journey
Steppenwolf
Zombies

I visited the R&R HOF a few years ago. It was for my wife and my 40th wedding anniversary. We both love R&R music. The visit was hugely disappointing! The building looks terrific on the outside. The inside has 3 or 4 floors of performer's outfits. The experience is to go to one display: "Here is a gown worn by Linda Ronstadt." Go to the next exhibit: "Here is a jacket once worn by Roy Orbison." After you walk around and see gowns, dresses, jackets, etc. you get to the end and leave. As far as I'm concerned there is nothing good about visiting the R&R HOF unless you are into looking at clothing.

The public can vote for up to 5 nominees at THIS LINK.
elo, journey, the cars should be in. to me, you should have at last 10 or more big hits. or at least had a major influence on the music industry. so you could maybe see depeche, pearl jam and maybe tupac. but none of them are really worthy. i do not know how people like depeche mode, but they are considered an iconic electronic band. i love pearl; jam, but they only have like 2 good records. but they are one of the leading founders of the grunge movement and ten is an awesome record. chaka- 4 good songs, j geils- 4 good songs, janes addiction-come on, joan baez-no way, j tex=no, kraftwewrk-no, mc5-no, janet jackson- maybe 8 or 10 hits but were any of them great?, steppenwolf-born to we wild and what else?, zombies-love them but probably not worthy, tupac- like him too but only has like 5 good songs, yes-iconic progressive band as well buty how man great songs? more on yes- then again i dont think bands like genesis(peter gabriel years), king crimson, elp or deep purple are worthy either. great musicians, but not great songs. but all those groups were influential so i can understand the thought process.

Can believe a band like the Cure can't even get a nomination, especially seeing some of the artists that have gotten in recently(Joan Jett & the Bllackhearts?). The Cure went on tour this year and were still averaging 15-18K in attendance each night. I bet Chaka Khan couldn't sellout the Lions Den in State College.
cure should be in. they were/are top 5 new wave type band.

Why is Janes Addiction even nominated. Just read that Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins, Nine Inch Nails were all passed over. Then you have the usual absurdity that the Cure, Moody Blues and the Smiths never get nominated. But Janes Addiction does? yikes. Broken process

If you put in Bad Brains and The Cars you can induct them and their producer together. That would be pretty cool.

J Geils Band is one of the greatest live bands of all time. And the funkiest band in the land. They should be in!

the cars had like 30 good songs. one of the greatest pure pop bands of all time. their videos were on the cutting edge as well. their first record is incredible.

i love the zombies. totally underrated 60's band. they captured the spirit of times. pure 60's pop sound. they are a personal favorite, but not sure they have quite enough to get in.

Pearl Jam has several great records. You may have only listened to 2. Out of curiosity, which are the Pearl Jam records that aren't good?

this is all opinion, but i only like the first two. ten is really the only great record. i do love pearl jam, but only feel like they have about 8 good songs. but i would possibly put them in for their influence. and they did sell a tons of records overall. so i have no issue with them. i just think they are overrated after their first two records.

So their third album, Vitalogy, with Corduroy and Better Man is no good?

It really should be "The Popular Music Hall of Fame" or something.
Rock and Roll is rooted in the Blues and the farther you get from the Blues, the less rock and roll it is.

I thought I'd throw this one out there to see if there is any interested discussion on this band that I liked alot back in the 1970's: Grand Funk Railroad.

I'm hopeful that The J Geils Band get in. Even better would be seeing them accept their awards without someone getting killed given the animosity of the band towards J. Geils. No way they would play together either.
