2019 NCAAs -- Session 4 Thread

285 Semi: Cassar vs. Gable Steveson (Minny)

A repeat of the B1G Final

Per 1
OOB with 2:45. Stall warning on Cassar for backing off. OOB with 2:31 left. Collar ties. Steveson reaches for an ankle, nothing. Nearly a TD on the edge, but waved off, but a stall call on Cassar, 0-1. End.

Per 2
Steveson takes bottom. Caution on Steveson. 2nd caution on Steveson. Stevenson up, and he's out in 8 sec, 0-2. End. Really no shots

Per 3
Caesar takes bottom. He's up and out in a few seconds, 1-2. Steveson shoots and Cassar with a counter for a TD, 3-2. OOB with 1:10 left. RT @ 39 sec. Steveson up, and out but RT at 1:02. Challenge brick thrown by Minny -- they must think Steveson was out before the RT was over 1 min. It was close. We're going to video review. Call is overturned -- it's 1:01 RT. LOL. 38 sec left. Stevenson reaches, nothing. End. PD stoppage with 24 sec. Stevenson reaches, nothing. Challenge brick thrown again by Minny. The PSU fans are booing. Call is confirmed, no head gear grab. End. With 1:01 in RT, Cassar is the 4-3 winner!!!!!

...and in other news, Jammies has now officially retired from posting on all wrestling blogs :)

CASSAR does it. Man, that guy makes one a believer.
I am going to apologize to a very good and regular poster on here first, and then I am going to respond to your post.

Nova, I apologize.

Now, my response. The question is does Nova believe yet?

Lost in all our excitement, Rutgers actually has 2 in the finals tomorrow with NS and Ashnault.

Someone was voted off the Rutgers board island for suggesting Rutgers had AA and Suriano and nothing else. He was actually correct. One is a sixth year senior and the other a junior. No other placers. I'd throw him off the island too - no need for rational thought. In fact, it's discouraged.

I'm so overjoyed for ANTHONY CASSAR!!! Definition of PERSEVERANCE!!!!

Benched in 2018... and only comes back and makes the Finals in 2019. What an incredible story. Dear JESUS.

After the match... Anthony said... "I'm so grateful to put this Penn State singlet on" after everything he's been through... NO ANTHONY.... We're so damn grateful as fans to have you as our unselfish heavyweight to cheer you on to a possible National Title tomorrow night. Damn... I'm so PROUD of that YOUNG MAN!!!!! And I thought James Englishes story couldn't be topped. Looks like I'll be making a place in my collective memory for a heavyweight hero who shined on the biggest of stages with the LARGEST of HEARTS!!! Damn... ANTHONY...
Vodka insists AC screwed the pooch and has a limited understanding of lost opportunities and their associated costs.

barring a collapse unlike anything we've ever seen, sure.

But officially, this could be done before tomorrow night even starts.
It is done as soon as Nick Lee wins his first consolation match, or as soon as any combination of PSU accumulating and OSU losing maximum points available that adds up to 3.5 points.

Ok, I’ll say it and ask the question. Does Mark beat Valencia? Mark has had some close ones, is that just who he is, while Valencia has been strong...who ya got? Take off the B&W goggles...be honest :)
My answer is the same as it was at the beginning of the year. Mark is now a big, strong 174 pounder. Mark Hall beats Valencia tomorrow night.

It was early in the season and he had just come off free-style season and he wasn't in sync. He's from my home town... and he's the best wrestler Jason Noff ever wrestled. He will not lose another college match. 2 timer.
It might then be time form him to come home to wrestle.;)

I read this whole thread after the fact tonight. Boy some nervous pervous posts did not age well. I think Hidlay should have won. Don’t get me wrong, PSU through and through and love Nolf but it looked like a take down in the first, granted Jason would’ve had 4 minutes to wrestle differently.

Bo is really amazing. If my understanding is correct the US gets two wrestlers per weight in the Olympics, would be great if PSU claimed both spots at 86.

Close matches were scary but you gotta win them to be the best. Joseph and Hall get stiff challenges tomorrow both will be up to the task.

Lee couldn’t find an opening tonight but should be proud. Has options in the future to avoid Yianni. Unfortunately that might be his only way to win one.

Love Cassar. Can’t wait for him to be allowed to punch people too. Not an MMA guy but I’ll follow him. Hopefully that isn’t until 2021. Stephenson is gonna need a time machine to be a four timer. I’m sure Cael is pleased to see his record live on... at least until he coaches someone else to it in blue and white... Mr Brooks? Mr. Beard? Both?

Great night! Glad I took my fathers advice and got into this sport, I see why he loves it

Tonight, it’s bittersweet. To basically wrap up another team title is amazing and the magical aura of bo and Nolf is going to be over tomorrow. We have one more night to watch them be absolute magicians on the mat. I’ll have a beer and a cookie and salute another set of magic twins, bring on Starrocci Beard Brooks.

Yes... he lived 30+- miles from State College. Not even sure what happened there. Heard too many stories... but he's a Noff / Nickal kind of guy. He would beat Jason 3 or 4 time out 10 right now. He'll get better and he won't lose again over the next 2 years.

Your understanding is very not correct. Where on Earth did you get that idea? Is that an inside joke from last year when some clowns on here thought Penn State could enter both Cassar and Rasheed at 197?

The U.S. isn't even guaranteed one wrestler at 86 kg, let alone two.
