Facundo or Mesenbrink ORS, Carter one more year. Then Facundo goes 174. Barr redshirts then 184. They all fit. Only one year sit would be if Carter came back for a 5th title.

Ryder and the Mirasola twins ... somebody doesn't fit in this scenario.
I was wondering how the heck Cael is going to get all these guys in the lineup. Maybe 184, 197 and 285, but then you have Barr unless he can go 174 for a few years. Crazy the talent that's coming in.

And any unauthorized attempt to engage with HWC royalty will be met with an appropriate response from the staff.

Tackle Bodyguard GIF
Nagao approaching Lord Spencer would probably elicit this type of response:

Those jumping off the Facundo train based upon last year's results, lack patience and trust in Cael's program. Many of the same have jumped back aboard the Bartlett train this year after having previously written him off. Up a weight,... yeah I know, yada, yada.

If Mesenbrink happens great, if it doesn't that just fine as well. There are no guarantees whatsoever that Messi comes in and can win a spot at either 157 or 165. I suspect Cael is telling him pretty much the same thing in a more sophisticated way.

Maybe some people aren't jumping off the train. Sometimes Cael will bring in someone and let them figure it out themselves (Dean/Beard).

Maybe his personality didn't fit. Cael doesn't look at just talent
Hmmm. Lots of past tense in these comments.

As my KYPSW picks illustrated, despite a meat grinder of a 165 weight class, I expected much more out of Alex, and admittedly a little less out of SVN. I don't have an explanation for Alex's performance in that first round in particular. That said I am far from saying 2023 is "the" data point, and we now know what we have.

This is far from a done deal. Alex is going to grow this year for sure. He is not satisfied with his nationals results. "If" we bring some in that threatens his job, I expect that would add a whole new level of motivation to get better faster. The possibility for an Oly shirt adds a lot of flexibility.

Let's just assume the worst case scenario. Mesinbrink comes in, Alex is Homesick and transfers to Michigan. I would not be surprised if Alex wins a national championship before he graduates. I don't want to see him in anything other than blue and white, or red, white, and blue if you get my drift.

I hope Facundo has the same career Nick Lee had 😉Sometimes people act like these kids can’t actually grow and improve. I will never root against a Nittany Lion, but I do get more enjoyment in seeing the growth over a career, like Nick Lee or RBY had, than a transfer who plugs in and wins right away.

I hear you. Beau taking 3rd might have been my favorite NCAA tournament finish this past year.

Maybe a tie with Shayne Van Happy Ness. That dude just always seems happy. I get a kick out of watching him interacting with his teammates.

Point taken, and yet, I gotta say, seeing Gabe & Max tear up last year was a big highlight for me too.

I certainly wouldn't quit on Facundo, but I have been driving the Mitchell Mesenbrink fan bus for quite some time. He is on a fast upward trajectory and was not pushed or forced into wrestling. He didn't have the amazing results in his early high school career and wasn't a huge name early like Facunda. I honestly believe he will be in the running for a national title right out of the gate. KOT and Carr are probably still a step ahead, but both are well aware of the fact that he is coming no matter the school. He could take an olympic redshirt and go to Mizzu and wrestle 165 when KOT moves up to 174, but it seems as though Cael has taken a shine and the feeling is mutual. He may not be at a need weight but he is the best guy in the portal this year and still has four years to compete. Just the opinion of an old has been, so there is that.

My thing with Facundo is less the result and more the process. It’s not a good process and hasn’t been for 2 years, which is why we saw a hard regression to the mean late this season.

Some guys can have a ton of success winning 1 takedown matches, but you need super, super elite defense and you need to be able to ride. I’m not sure Alex has either of those. Maybe he makes a jump, but nothing I’ve seen to this point in HS or college shows me he’s gonna live up to that recruiting ranking

That take down versus Matthew's was all time good in my book I f..king came unglued when that happened. He wanted it bad. Love beau

Facundo and Barr making each other better..

I know your views on Facundo but what do you think about Barr? He definitely has a few of the same deficiencies that Facundo does but I still think he’s going to be great. His lack of setups definitely concern me though
Yeah I think we’re in line here. Same sorts of issues, though I think Barr has a bit more variance in his attacks and more willing to be a volume shooter from the jump (his Fargo final against Welsh is an example of this)

In Cael we trust. If anyone can bring about positive change Cael and his staff can.

The alternative is to not be excited when a world silver medalist, and one of the few guys to beat Levi Haines on a wrestling mat in the past year, is coming into your program.

That’s a whole level of spoiled that I’m glad our fans aren’t at yet.

And if it's Mirasola not starting, does he move on and take his brother too? We could conceivably lose our 285 guy
Askren guys don't tend to give up easily. I would bet the Mirasola brother that doesn't make the starting rotation will dig in and try to catch and pass the guy who is keeping him off of the mat. There is so much to be said for guys who love the sport and realize it is a marathon rather than a sprint. PSU has has many studs wait it out and keep improving. I have to believe the guys really like it there for more reasons than just the glory.

RBY and Nick Lee were starting from a different floor. They were both AAs as true Freshmen. Alex went 0-2 as a RS Fr.

I'm a big fan of Alex', but having the same career Nick Lee had seems like a stretch.

Perhaps Alex can match Nick's 2 titles.

But he can't match Nick's 4x AA career.
