Nagao's ceiling is higher than Cannon, no denying that but you can do a lot worse than Cannon, especially since we don't have anyone there at all right now. He was documented injured last year but AA'ed both years before that. He did beat Nagao 7-4 last year as well.

I know Cannon visited this weekend and I imagine the staff treated him like the only option at 133, imagine there is a relationship with Kennedy before as well. Imagine he also got the full focus of the staff since he likely was the only visitor. If we're just going against Rutgers, no offense, you have to like our chances, especially since Rutgers will be spending most of their NIL money on Griffith.

Iowa can buy a lot of things. They just can't buy the top of the podium for individuals or the program.

If Nagao goes there, I read him wrong, granted it was a very small sample.

I would love to have Aaron as a peice of what may become the greatest team ever assembled. True we don't need him to continue to win a series of championships.

Many kids have made the same poor decision without a large bag of money thrown at them. It's hard to blame any 19-20 year old if he can be bought. Wisdom usually comes later in life.

I am going to be the lone hold out, believing what we heard in that interview is genuine, and he like Truax will see beyond the $ and choose correctly.

Not speculating on Nagao's family financial situation at all for the record since I don't know it but it has been documented Truax's family does pretty well (dad has his own Real Estate Brokerage firm) So it's easy for them to not care about money. I don't know Nagao's situation but he could need it for all we know (once again I don't know). I remember Cenzo alluded that Woods doesn't come from much either and he's happy because what he got from Iowa will help his family. Similarly, RBY did a whole documentary on how hard he had it growing up, it's quite unfair to just call a kid greedy just because they "seek a bag"

So overall, I'm not judging, we don't know anyone's story. If Nagao goes to Iowa and it's for money, good for him, it's his abilities and his life.

Long story short, kids portaling for money isn't much different IMO from kids leaving for the pros probably before they are ready because they just want to shoot their shot. Except in college wrestling, you do it by switching schools rather than going to a pro league. Unless the NCAA wants to enforce something, it's going to happen, maybe not every year but it'll happen. My hope is Minnesota is able to fundraise and match what Nagao got (really don't want him at Iowa) but don't see it as likely. Seeing Michael Blockhus response leads me to think the Minnesota team understands why he is doing what he is doing and I think deep down, it hurts Nagao for having to leave. His emotional talk about his teammates and coaches at NCAAs I 100% believe was genuine.

Are we still allowed to judge to University?

So you started The Godfather but didn't finish it?

An obvious question. I am pretty certain I was channel searching and clicked on it well after the beginning and then just lost interest. Maybe it was seeing Brando as an old fat guy with cotton in his cheeks just turned me :)

To be honest, I think all else equal, most of this board would vote Nagao over Cannon and this board since Nagao portaled after Cannon is pretty solid evidence of it. That being said, obviously there are other factors. I'm also not saying Cannon is a done deal but I just like our chances a ton and know he visited.

Put it this way, there is a reason we went for Hildebrandt instead of Suriano and the dropoff between those 2 (and considering what the team race looked like when we were deciding) is way more significant than Nagao to Cannon (if any to be honest)

A 133 transfer is only relevant to the scoring record. For next year, PSU could go the whole season without a 133 on the roster, forfeit the weight at every dual, and not have an entry in the postseason, and they would be undefeated in dual matches and win both the B1Gs and NCAAs.

True but we want 10 semi-finalists.

Objectively speaking, Nagao has higher upside but Cannon could be better value. Truth be told though, PSU doesn’t need to field anyone at 125 and 33 and would still win the title next year.

This is valuable context/perspective. There are 100% kids who will come for less money because of the environment. But that is also a luxury that not everybody has. The portal/NIL situation can be hard to wrap our heads around, but this is a true "don't hate the player, hate the game" situation.

And also, I know it's fun to punch down at Iowa and all (and I voice my frustration with my hawks quite a bit as you all know), but let's not pretend that it's not a great lightweight situation with tons of production. He's upgrading his training environment with a nice payday - if Mineo is right. Iowa isn't PSU, but it's still a clear top 2/3 program.

I would be happy with either, but I would rather have Nagao because I think he is a potential champion down the road.
Maybe. But despite Cannons less than stellar post season he did beat Nagao in the dual meet 7-4. By next March we should see a much improved version of Cannon. What are TnT going to teach Nagao?

All of this plus the tunnel … how could he resist?

I remember when Nolf was a freshman he was killing guys and Flo said his weakness was giving up too many escapes what they forgot to mention was he was letting them go for more takedowns!

IF ALL OF THIS STATEMENT IS TRUE, I will have lost all respect for him. Not because he didn’t choose PSU, but because of the hypocrisy of his interview discussing the decision to enter the portal. I guess we are left to assume God told him that money was the most important factor and the first thing to discuss.

I can't wait to see how AJ and Anthony act when Aaron pulls up in his Ferrari!

Meh, indifferent on it to be honest. Everything/everyone has a price, can't blame him for going with what takes care of him/his family.

I do think that this changes the calculus, or should change the calculus, for guys already in Iowa City. Really changes the calculus for guys going there in the future. Precedents do get set.

Hypocrisy and modern religion are like peanut butter and jelly. Not a big shock. It’s why dudes like Joel Osteen live on palatial estates
