I keep saying it makes no difference if the kid goes to Iowa or PSU. At least as far as PSU is concerned. If he goes to Iowa he will be an AA, but below Cannon on the stand. If he comes to PSU he most likely wins a title and rakes in some bucks while doing so. Other than a Solider Salute title he isn't winning any championships training in Iowa City.

I don't disagree. My measure of the kid is based upon his record, how he performed against RBY, and his interview. All three point to a hard working, talented, high integrity kid who will benefit us as much as we benefit him.

To be honest he took the visit and talked to Cael.

In my view whatever decision he makes now is the correct one. If it's Iowa he isn't a fit here, if it's PSU as it should be, Mineo got hours of entertainment from this board and GIA reacting to his post accordingly.

You can say this about Mineo. He is accurate maybe 50% of the time, which exceeds my Earnst & Young audited results for my crystal ball. Nonetheless his posts still get a lot of traction whereas mine are musings ignored by everyone.

It took years for Iowa to secure a couple of million from their entire fan base to lock down the matching commitment from the university to build their new facility yet suddenly we’ve got big ballers stepping up and offering hundreds of thousands of dollars to transfers? I don’t think so. Penn State isn’t offering big money to these guys and neither is Iowa. My $.02

While we’re on the topic, how many of you make it a practice to share your personal financial information with people outside of your immediate family (say, with complete strangers like Willie or Mineo)? The notion of Bernie turning away a $200k Iowa offer to attend PSU is fun and all but it’s complete BS IMHO. Same with Nagao. It’s very possible he received a better offer from Brands, that much I could believe. But they’re not backing up the Brinks truck for the kid.

I think people are imagining a literal bag of cash. The likely situation is a package of - likely pretty rosy - projections. You get this percentage of these sales and so forth. And with a fan base like Iowa's you can probably make quite a bit off legit NIL sales.

I love the way Cael is playing all of this. PSU has a great culture right now and Cael understands that maintaining that culture is the most important thing. You need to come to PSU because of your aspirations and goals, not because of a bag of cash. I don't begrudge anybody that feels the $$$ are most important for their situation/family and decides to go elsewhere. We will win without them.

As far as Nagao, NIL, and his Basch interview… I think this is more a product of following football and basketball recruiting for the last 20+ years. Recruits never spoke about the financial part in their interviews. Up until now that stuff was always illegal. You would have a recruit talk about education, when you knew full well they were SEC type guys. They were looking for a bag. Even with NIL now legal, guys are not gonna give interviews and say “I’m looking for the most money”. Someday they may talk like that, but I doubt it.

As someone who’s followed recruiting for a long time, the best advice I could give a fan is the old saying… watch what a recruit does, not what he says.
