What will Hawkeye fans talk about after the King is gone.

I think Lee winning a fourth would given them more joy and would trump Lee losing and Iowa winning team title.

Barring transfers, they return their lineup next year except replace Lee with Ayala, Murin with Chittum and then Warner with Franklin/Glazier/Voelker.

Ayala will be a high AA level guy if healthy ... but that could still reasonably be a 10 point from from Spencer. I think Chittum will be better than Murin but not immediately, Iowa fans will realize how much they miss Warner next year also.

Guys in their lineup right now, I think are relatively close to their ceilings except maybe Siebrecht, he still intrigues me as someone who can get better.

There is no doubt in my mind that they'd rather Lee win the individual title than the team win the team title. They won't admit it though. As for next season, they will be fighting with tOSU and Missouri to be top 3.

Feel free to bank this and then make fun of me when I'm totally wrong, but I think tOSU has a pretty firm grip on 2nd place next season. They have the potential to be very, very good. (insert 'recruiting national champs' joke here)

I actually agree so we will both be wrong. I think Missouri rounds out top 3. Edit...I may even replace Missu with Cornell now that I look a little closer. Regardless, Iowa will be fighting for just getting on podium if they don't bring in a transfer or two.

Siebrecht is what i thought/hoped Barraclough would be this year. Maybe he breaks out his Junior year as well.

Little Larry will be out recruiting the portal for another year or so.

I thought it was Iowa St?

Nebraska is probably in the mix for a team trophy again next year. Intermat projects them to finish 3rd at nationals this year. They lose Labriola and Cronin but return Lovett from shirt.

Does Kueter count against their 9.9 at all? He’s on a football ride and now I see that they just offered Ross.

No. Football players on scholarship for any sport are counted 100% against football.

Otherwise the SEC would be filled with 250-lb tennis players running a 4.4 40.
Iowa might be on to something. They have the #1 P4P wrestling recruit and he doesn’t even count against their 9.9.

On the flip side, any kid getting a football scholarship is going to be expected to prioritize football when it's time. Don't think you'll see coaches manipulating football scholarships to bring in wrestlers lol. Kueter just happened to be quite good at both. Football is king.

Understood.

When they (Iowa football) also offered the #3 PfP freshman wrestler, it got my attention.

That might be too much for you to handle.

This would be the live view from your ring camera

I hope the Hawks is 3rd to 4th for a while. For no other reason than your entertainment value. I've always liked you but you've been more likeable the last 2 years than in 2020-2021 when Iowa was on top. You're a little more let's say .... confident in 2020? Which is fine! That's how PSU fans are (I'll admit). But you handle trash talk relatively well!

Anyone care to take a stab at tOSU’s starting lineup next year?

I've been on the edge of my seat all season waiting to see if Iowa delivers that 2nd team title that King Spencer Lee promised everyone.

2024: they lose Lee and Warner. If they score 85 points this year, they’ll score 70 in 2024.
2025: they lose Real and Cass. If they score 70 is 2024 they’ll score 60 in 2025.
Some of the newer guys like Kueter and Chittum will fill the gaps, but it most likely will take a few years to get there.

I think you are right: 3rd or 4th for a while.

125 - Gonzales or Kilkeary
133 - Bouzakis
141 - Mendez
149 - Sasso
157 - Gallagher
165 - Kharchla
174 - Welsh
184 - Bell or Shumate
197 - Hoffman
285 - Feldman
Think it’s more likely Welsh redshirts and Gallagher and Kharchla bump up a weight.

How many guys get better under the Brands?

Perhaps, but then they might have an issue at 149/157. Can Hepner get back down to 157? If not, then D'Emilio + Sasso both need to go up.

Plus Gallagher/Kharchla going up means either Welsh or Kharchla sits in 2025, or Welsh goes up and they have 4 yrs of logjam at 184/197.

If Kharchla is growing, maybe Welsh starts 2024 at 174 and tanshirts 2025?
