Thanks for the updates last night, Tikk. Was sneaking peaks while visiting with my family, very close to the radio show's favorite questioner, Allen, from Boalsburg.
So you profile name is just lying to us? You aren’t really in TN? ;)

I understand the disdain for Gilman, but you won't catch me celebrating any win by Daton Fix. The guy is like a lightweight Tyler "Stalledwell." Pass.

We now have the USA team, except for 79kg, which will be contested later. Every one, as soon as they don the red, white, and blue, get my cheers.

Last year, the USA finished 2nd in men's freestyle, were not on the map in men's Greco (other than an Adam Coon 2nd), and 3rd in women's freestyle. We'll see how 2019 unfolds … in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan, September 14-22.

How does this years USA team compare to Russia and Iran in FS now that our team is basically Complete? Gonna need Fix, Graff, Downey, and Gwiz to exceed expectations/ranking if we want to challenge at all IMO.

Good question. Was asking myself the same thing when I posted.

My take on the landscape, big picture, is that, while we're competitive, and improving, wrestling is at or near the top of some of these country's national sports, and we've seen that they'll do anything to win :(. Except for the superstars, the names of their athletes change, and there's not a huge drop off in talent. Without knowing a weight-by-weight break down, a finish like 2018 could be a good result, as we're missing one of our superstars.

I think we might see some fireworks out of Daton at Worlds. When he was winning the age level tourneys, that trap arm gut and inside trip were both VERY effective. Sometimes the style matchups mean guys struggle more domestically than internationally. I guess we’ll see if he can roll up senior level grown men or not. He didn’t make his team last year, but my money is on Takatani from Japan who could take Gilman down at will in their 2017 final.

So I watched all of the Final X Lincoln matches, but I did not watch all of the commentary. Was anything mentioned concerning the protest results concerning Zain and yinni???

They’re wrestling Match 2 over and if necessary Match 3 at Final X-Benton. The undercard will include Carton vs Pletcher, Andrew Alton vs Sleepy Grajales , Toadrank vs Dylan Ness, and Deuce Rachal vs Mocco.

I hope Fix improves his style. Honestly, my sourness is mostly from the embarrassing match he and John Smith put together in the national finals this year.

Agreed it was bad. Daton tech’d everybody in his last Junior Worlds, gave up a single point. There’s hope.

Plus, Daton is a much more dynamic freestyler. His par terre game is excellent and he seems to be able to hit his throw-by and inside trip more often in international competition. I’m sure it’s because he is so well scouted domestically and has competed against the same guys so often they know his feel. I think Daton is going to medal actually. Draw dependent obviously but I think he has a great chance.

Have a hard time envisioning that, after watching two years of college wrestling my view is his style will kill the sport. Look forward to when I don’t have to watch him wrestle. Enjoy watching RBY 100 times more

Not a very exciting match...…...but give some credit to Suriano's defense. Except for a brief lapse at the end of Desanto match 1...….pretty amazing D all year from Nick...…..a bit of a snoozer to watch but still....pretty amazing.

Fix/ Suriano is on the complete opposite side of the spectrum of matches that us PSU fans are used to seeing.

Nick’s defense is second to none, i remember reading when he was with us that he hadnt been taken down in HS. I think Gilman was the guy who broke that streak.

Nick was taken down once in hs and I believe gave up back points also.

I give plenty of credit to Suriano's defense

Doesn't change the fact that Fix took ZERO shots of his own and skated backwards for much of the match
