Interesting...Scott is crushing mike m on Twitter this am

The irony of this all?
It all started with a budget battle between Spanier and Corbett.

In order to save a little bit of taxpayer dollars, we have to waste a whole bunch of taxpayer dollars.

ah...logic.
One wonders, absent this budget battle, if any of these accusations would have seen the light of day. And Corbett might still be governor.

Ok so maybe Elmo and Bob78 are correct and these settlements were well intended [keep PSU out of the news] and follows normal "protocol".
Well it just so happens we will have a new Chairman of the BoT this week I think. Seems like this would be good statement by him.

Regarding the recent news on past settlements with victims from 1971 and 1976 I was head of the committee for recommending resolution. In an attempt to help the university and all of its alumni and current students move past this unfortunate incident I recommended we settle these complaints without the proper vetting. I was wrong in that assessment. What has happened is, it has re raised the question of involvement and knowledge by University employees including Coach Paterno and other assistant coaches. We can find no corroborating evidence that any of these charges had even the slightest truth to them. That they have been discussed in the public arena is my fault and I apologize to all those involved.
I assure you that as the new Chairman of the BoT these mistakes will never happen again and any complaints or accusations will be completely and thoroughly vetted.

Anyone want to send that to Ira?

So you were told that PSU held a contract with TSM regarding TSM's (including it's Founder and most powerful regulatory-listed "Control Person") use of PSU's Facilities and Campus? You were told that TSM specifically INDEMNIFIED PSU against all liabilities arising from TSM's use of PSU's facilities and campus from TSM Participants or Employees in exchange for being permitted access and use???

Send it!
That would be a profitable pay-per-view to offer us Alums to watch Ira state that in public! IraMania!

Again, I don't know if anything they've done has been truly well-intentioned or not. Given the true power bloc in place at the time and since, I strongly suspect not... there has been a nearly 100% rate of swings and misses on the part of the OGBOT.
I said they may have followed their corporate protocol and did not take into account the emotional and heart-felt attachment people like you and me have for PSU. That was a big, very avoidable mistake from square one. Can't treat PSU the same way you do a corporation when it come to crisis management. Ours is a much different attachment for PSU than what we have for Merck or US Steel or whatever as pieces of an investment portfolio. And that has been their mistake all along - they went at this with no heart and soul (i.e. the corporate protocol), and not much brain for the most part, while the rest of us have and continue to approach it completely differently.

PSU is not a "for profit corporation", the TRUSTEES are not permitted to use PSU's assets and resources in any way except in the BEST INTERESTS OF THE BENEFICIAL OWNERS OF PSU. Period. Judge Covey and the Commonwealth Court made it quite clear that sending $60 million to the NCAA in the Consent Decree was clearly a violation of Fiduciary Obligation because the money was not in any way being used on behalf of the BENEFICIAL OWNERS of PSU - the Citizenry of Pennsylvania.
