Iowa at Nebraska

HR is mad Manning allowed his Hwt to ride the piss out of a kid with a hurt knee , it’s called wrestling
Exactly, what is the coach supposed to say "hey looks like he has a brace on that knee, rather than ride on your dominant side, maybe switch it up...also try not to hurt his feelings after getting your hand raised" never thought I'd see the day our sport got so soft...first ducking tough opponents...now we want guys to take it easy on their opponents...wtf

Interesting match. Young needs to try some offense, I don’t see his path to a long tournament run like he is wrestling now and all it takes is one slip to be upset.

Bull-White was about par for the course for a White match, he seems to be going for the ol freestyle 1-1 first on the shot clock criteria win.

Impressed by Shaw’s toughness, thought he was done. Venz blew it, but good wrestling by Wilcke to make him pay for it. Still not too high on him though.

Spencer looked rough at the end there. He kinda stumbled and I almost thought he was about to pass out. Not sure what the exact story is there, but if he’s not in better shape soon it will be a tough slog at the tournaments. Then again he is Spencer, so I expect him to be there at the end.

Oh and Desanto has to be the worst guy to wrestle if you are overmatched. Nolf or Nickal or Spencer will pin you in 40 seconds, but Desanto will beat the piss out of you for 10 to 12 takedowns and enjoy doing it. That poor Nebraska kid, I think Desanto took him down five times in a row without ever losing contact for a second.

I just had my quad tendon reattached Tuesday. Then yesterday I caught a rug a little funny underfoot on the bad leg side. Despite wearing the immobilizer and following all orders, looks like I’ll go back under the knife.:(
I would give this a thumbs down if I could.......hope you heal well....... and get rid of the carpet

What was the hand motion right after he got up there. I thought he was shushing the Nebraska bench but his finger isn’t straight. Does he not know how to shush? Or is this some newfangled insult.

Good catch! I think maybe he has his hand on his chin as if to say “hmmm...well, what just happened?”

It's the new Iowa.

With all of the great matchups that we could see at BIGS, I think I have Micic/Desanto at the top of my list. Some serious popcorn material. Cenzo/Marinelli a very close 2nd.

I had lots of fun watching Manning all day. MY gosh everyone says Brands is bad every match Manning was hollering or chewing out the reffs it was funny..Don't like to see either team doing the bull they do like Red and Berger first Red didn't do anything and Berger being ranked number 2 had to go overtime..Desanto beats and pounds the piss out his guy and like was said above Nebby bench once was on him after taking the Neb. guy down and into their bench. You gonna discuss it out best learn to take it also the only way to stop this is be fair and take team points away from both teams when it starts..

Very disappointed in this BS. I don't care if your backing PSU, Rutgers, Iowa, tOSU, etc there is no excuse for accepting/condoning this type of behavior. The coaches talk over-and-over about their responsibility to these kids and then they allow this to occur... The fans destroy other teams athletes for acting like this but say it's ok for their kids ("they started it")... If Iowa's AD doesn't step in and tell the coach "you handle this or I will", he should be fired. No excuse for allowing this (3 team points correct?) to reflect on your program... I read BWI and IR everyday but seldom post but this has me somewhat disgusted...Sorry for the rant: I'm out...

Shushing, thumbs up and throat slash.
IMO the thumbs up isn't a DeSanto problem, it's a Brands problem.

Meaning I don't think he was taunting or hot dogging. I think he did it at his own bench, because he seems to feel a need for approval and acceptance. (This was also apparent during his interaction with Brands on the Iowa sidelines after the Suriano match.)

I don't have a good solution for this, but he needs help understanding that he is valued unconditionally AND certain behaviors are unacceptable. Both. That's part of Brands' job.

Any relation to @Ranger Dan ? Wait. Don’t spoil the surprise.

I'm going to give you a thumbs down on this post. You're scratching an itch that is not there.

The shush and thumbs up aren't horrible. Just pointing out to the hawk fan that he left out the throat slash, maybe on purpose to support his PSU fans gotta hate.

Lol, yeah after Nebby's antics during the match I think Desanto shushing the crowd and giving a thumbs up is fine. But PSU fans gotta hate

You may be right but the alternative is worse.

yeah you’re right, didn’t see the throat slash when I had posed that. but with all the taunting and yelling the Nebraska bench was doing, I don’t blame him. my bad for missing that in the first place but it does seem that everyone tries to hop on desanto no matter what. he can’t even celebrate after a match without people hating on him (btw people who posted before me also didn’t see the throat slash at that point based on their comments). He obviously wasn’t in the best place last year. Iowa has been good for him and he has been pretty tame harmless celebrations). Coaches and him are working on calming his emotions after a match, but it takes time. Watch spencer’s interview about it after Desanto beat Suriano and he explains it perfectly.

Have you ever seen a wrestler get dinged team points in three matches so close together before? How many times did it happen at Drexel last year before the nationals meltdown? I think it was zero in the dual season. Whatever is being done by the staff at Iowa seems to be decidedly NOT working - because so far the behavior has been worse, not better, this season.

lol the behavior is much better this season, and some of the team points taken away is bullcrap. the throat slash was the worst thing, but NOTHING he did against Suriano or Lizak was bad. Against lizak it was a super hostile environment (trust me I was getting heckled there and I was just sitting) and he was playing to the crowd after pulling off an upset (no evidence of him spitting on the mat, I was there and didn’t see it at all) against Suriano he yelled, so what, he did what no one besides iowa fans thought he could and the place was wild so I don’t blame him for his emotions running so high there. if you think anything he has done this year mirrors last year at all, look again.

You're just dodging. What happened before nationals last year? Was he dinged in any dual meets? And in case you haven't noticed, he hasn't wrestled in nationals yet this season.

My laundry machine spins less than this.

"Playing to the crowd" wasn't the objection in the Lizak match.

And "against Suriano he yelled, so what" -- umm ... yelling in someone's face, mere inches away, is acceptable? How you want your program to be represented?

Apparently it is. Thank you for the clarity.

Well, there was that incident at EIWAs ... oh, that's right, we haven't reached conference tournament week yet.

The kid spit on the mat after he beat Lizak. Who does something like that unless you have zero self control.

This unsportsmanlike behavior needs to stop. There should be penalties and suspensions for conduct deemed to be unsportsmanlike. Two point team dual deductions, wrestler suspensions and an accumulation of negative team points heading into the NCAA championships. For multiple infractions, such as the Desanto case, the kid should be suspended for the season.

DeSanto has significant behavioral issues. We know that for the simple reason that since a program of Drexel's stature removed a future All American wrestler from their roster, they told him to leave.

If it was a simple issue to address/correct, they would have worked with him. Only a major school where wrestling is important to the AD and will not care about negative consequences will take a chance on DeSanto, hence he is at Iowa.

Do you have a video of him spitting? I would like to see it
Yes, there is and as much as you frequent both boards you are already aware of this and I will not take up my time to dig it up for you. Please go to the HR board and search. If you want to find it you will.

This appears to be perfectly normal behavior o_O
