Iowa @ Ohio State PBP, Results and Discussion Thread

I wouldn't think so.

I wondered if it was possible to be a two-time champ and disappoint one's coach and fanbase so consistently.

I don't wonder any longer.

I do remember an almost identical scenario last year. Coach Smith was upset that Heil didn't try for another takedown and bonus points. Heil was asked and said something to the effect of ...I wrestle to get my hand raised. I don't care if it is 1 pt. or 15. My job is to get my hand raised. I am sure somebody on here can find that interview. I just remember thinking....I'm not sure coach Smith is going to be too upset when this guy graduates. If memory serves me....he won NCAA's last year without a single bonus point. I think there were a couple guys who finished 2nd or 3rd with as many or more points

Please help me understand this situation? "How are teams/coaches predicting an injury"? I would rather TEST my ability against the best competition vs SIT OUT and see what happens during the B1G or NCAAs!

In 2017, Heil finished with the minimum of 20 points as a champion. He came in 10th place on the individual list. Dead last among the champions. In 2016, he finished with 20 points as well, but finished 14th in individual scoring, which means four non-champions finished above him.

He did not score any bonus in 2015 either. He wrestled 7 matches that year and went 5-2. That means Dean Heil has wrestled 17 matches at nationals in three years, went 15-2, with no bonus. He gave up a major in the 3rd place match in 2015.

Do you know how hard it is to wrestle 17 matches at his level and not get bonus? No one injury defaulted or fell onto their back. Heil has only reached 10 points in a bout once at nationals, and that was in 2015.

Consume large quantities of vodka and you can see Iowa has a realistic shot at winning this match. Possibly in dominating realistic fashion. If you consume vodka in a large enough quanity.

Going to break what I said about not posting here until after nationals since you're directly misquoting and misrepresenting my words. I will just respond to this one post.

This is your problem. You misquote me or create a strawman to make me look foolish and attempt to mock me. How childish. Let's look at my post that you're referring to:

"How do people say "if you're being realistic, Iowa has no chance". That's ridiculous. Iowa has a chance. Not a great chance but definitely a realistic, possible chance. Any dual that you can conceivably win 5 out of the 10 matches, you have a realistic chance."

So I explicitly state Iowa does not have a great chance, but they do have a realistic chance. I say I think they can conceivably win 5 matches.

Let's look at the matches they can win:

Lee at 125, (underdog at this point, but not crazy to think Lee has a shot based on his potential).

Sorensen at 149: Favored

Kemerer at 157: Favored

Bull at 165: Favored

Wilcke at 197: Underdog and would be a the least likely to win out of these 5 guys. I personally don't think Wilcke wins the match, but there have been many, many crazier upsets in sports. Just look at Meyer vs Hall last year for one example. Look at Moisley over Gilman.

So in this scenario, it really only requires one highly improbably upset.

Where did I say anything about dominating? If Iowa wins it will be a very, very close dual. OSU is the obvious heavy favorite. It's not Purdue vs OSU though. Then we could say there is no realistic chance of a victory for Purdue. I was merely responding to the people saying Iowa has no shot. Iowa definitely has a shot. A low probability shot, but a realistic shot nonetheless.

What is your intention with taking shots at me every chance you get? I'm a huge fan of wrestling in general. I'm obviously a huge Iowa fan, but I'm not irrational. You clearly hold some animosity against me as you feel the need to mention my name in a ton of posts, while misconstruing my words. If you want to mock me, why not quote reply to the post directly on HR where I said Iowa has a realistic chance. That's how a man would handle it. Not take my quote, change the meaning completely to create a strawman, and then mock it in another corner of the internet behind my back.

The reason that I and a number of other hawks want to see big Sam held out against Snyder has nothing to do with him losing. If you know Stolls history, 2 years ago he tore his ACL late in the season against Gwiz in the national duals (freshman year). Last year it was against Okie States heavy. He hasn't even competed at NCAAs because he tore his ACL twice, late in the season. I would just like him to make it to the post season. Snyder's style makes reinjury so possible. Doubt forfeiting this match will make a difference in the outcome of this dual.

Using this logic, Iowa should hold out Spencer Lee as well. He is also coming off of injury and Tomasello might re-injure him.

It's a tough sport, Man-up.

I think most on here just out of Penn State self interest would like to see Lee beat Nato and if other Iowa over tOSU upsets happen, that's good too...

I remember watching the streamed match a few years back when Ohio State finally won a dual against Iowa, January 2012. I rather enjoyed watching the Buckeyes dismantle the Hawks. Back then the biggest bad ass threat to the Lions was always the Hawks and it was impossible to imagine ever rooting for Hawk success.

Not anymore. My how things have changed.

Oh man. Come on. First it is rather fun to mock you, and second you certainly do not need me nor anybody for that matter to help you to look foolish.
Enjoy the match.

Mock away, but mock me for things I say. Don't create a strawman or misquote. You have a weird fixation on me. And if you're going to mock me be a man and reply directly to my post that you're mocking.

Has Spencer ever been the underdog before? I can't recall an instance.
I remember reading a story about when Spencer was in 8th grade and the family was at a summer sporting event for Spencer's sister and Spencer was supposedly tormenting a sibling. When Spencer's mother instructed him to stop and he in typical teenage idiocy smart mouthed his mom in front of his friends.

Spencer's mom in her younger days had been a member of the US national jujitsu team or something similar at that level. Anyhow after issuing several warnings, mommy bear put baby bear on the ground and would not let him up.

My guess is the last time Spencer was the underdog was the last time he pissed his mother off to that degree.

I did mock you for things you have said. It just isn't a snapshot. It is the photo-album.

Anyhow. Enjoy the match.

Complete bullshit. You misquoted me to create a strawman. I've never said anything near what you initially claimed. Then I call you out on it, and you double down and claim you're mocking something that I have said.

I'll stand behind what I say. If you want to mock something I say that's your prerogative. But you're spouting straight BS right now.

I'm all for ball breaking. But if you're going to break balls. Do it directly to me for something I said. Don't mock my post on a completely different forum when you have the opportunity to do it directly on the forum I posted on. Pretty simple. Basically if you want to break balls, you better have balls yourself.

Way to early in the morning on a Sunday for fighting! Let's all drink Bloody Mary's and relax..

I make my own bloody mary mix with my garden vegetables that I then give to my mother to can, but we ran out of that a few weeks back. So today we are getting the day started with some mimosas. R

Rivalry Soccer (lost to this team twice before but beat them in the playoffs) followed by playoff football and high quality wrestling today! Great day to be in 'Merica!!

Cheers WT!

Don't go away mad- just go away. You have brought any mockery on yourself with idiotic posts far too numerous to count. You are caught up in the 3" binder delusion so tightly that you honestly feel Iowa can win. I'm happy for you. You get to watch a dual filled with suspense while the rest of us simply understand it isn't up for grabs other than the margin of victory. I will say it- Iowa wins this dual and I will never post on here again. Will you do the same when tosu bitch slaps you back to temporary reality?

Dunke, I'm all for busting Vodkas stones, but he does make one valid point. If Wilcke knocks off Moore, will that be a massive upset? There have some on this board who haven't been super impressed with Moore, correct?

I'd think the Hawks winning is a really long shot, but certainly greater than 0 percent chance IMO.

Don't feel the same about Spencer Lee. He is much lighter and has only torn his ACL once. He isn't nearly as vulnerable as Stoll for re-injury IMO.

The point is realistic in mind is 50 percent. Its not needing every single thing to break your way. In regards to Vodka he made his grave with his calling compliance offices. That was grade A over the top

Dang, figured with this post count the dual may have started and I somehow missed the time change.

Don’t forget, for anyone that’s able, please post the results of the dual here...which is the purpose of me starting the thread.

Just north of Baltimore, joining NoVa, and others for lunch, then heading to the arena. Enjoy both duals all, should be fun.
