Iowa

Right after the semi-finals a huge check was supposedly dropped in a portal and addressed to Coe College Administration.
Obviously that is a joke but even though Spencer has no more eligibility to be suspended, that would be the WORST case scenario for any team betting. NCAA takes plain betting serious enough but point shaving, match fixing type things, I can't imagine there would be a limit to punishment there (even if the athlete is out of eligibility)

Athletes without eligibility who get busted for gambling might get a show cause penalty prohibiting them from coaching for some period of time.

That may be merely a formality for someone who wishes to focus on freestyle training for a few years -- doubt NCAA would issue a 5-year show cause penalty that would carry beyond the 2028 Olympics, for someone who was not a coach at the time of the violation.

I think they should get most of the credit for Gilman. He was a savage there and still is.

However, they should also get credit for alienating him to the point where he leaves to go to their rivals. Just as they have done with DSJ, Metcalf, and several others. It’s actually mind boggling the talent they let leave that place. Other than Bubba Jenkins, I can’t think of a disgruntled former PSU wrestler. Can anyone else? All of our guys that leave and coach elsewhere have said great things about their time at PSU. Beard may possibly have a little bitterness but hasn’t publicly said anything that I know of.
Cruiseliner Nicky?

So hypothetically, if Someone (not saying he was gambling) like Cass is suspended for a year gambling but he took his olympic red shirt that year before being suspended, Would it preserve his last year eligibility? Slightly different circumstances.

Yeah but it didn’t come directly from any sports betting organization. Evidently the money was paid by one of the many LLCs operated by Hunter Biden - with a sizable handling fee deducted to give The Big Guy his cut. 😈

Recruiting director the same as the media person verifying their work?

Good question, but moot in this case as I don't think Cass is eligible for an ORS.

I think he’s elligible 2 ways & counting, but I doubt it will help him if he’s involved in the betting:

  1. Past National Team members: Top 3 from the Senior World Team Trials or Olympic Team Trials
  2. Top 8 at the April 2023 Senior US Open
  3. Top 8 at the December 2023 Senior US Nationals
  4. Top 3 at the 2023 NCAA I Wrestling Championship
  5. NCAA I Champion from a previous year AND top 2 from the 2023 U23 Nationals (must accomplish both)
  6. Previous U17, U20, U23 World Medalist (UWW)

Does anyone have a complete list of transgressions during the brands tenure?

I got a couple of yesteryear.

1) teamate shoots another teamate
2) montel Marion suspension that wasnt suspension
3) duck hunting on campus
4) AdS going after a lady during the finals parade
5) Gross car break in

Others?

The failed PD3 experiment?

The thing that would worry me as an Iowa fan is that the gambling investigation started (or is coming from) a criminal investigation.

All I know is that things seem to be on a trend towards much darker transgressions. Desperate times call for desperate measures. The whole Spencer Lee Theory (that his career as the GOAT would ensure the triumphant return to the top of college wrestling) seems to have really petered out somewhere during the semifinals this year and fell one pair of glasses short.

What happens in sports everywhere (usually) is teams have a period where they need to rebuild. It may take 1-4 yrs then they have a run. iowa is in that now, but what amazes me is TnT refuse to except that and would rather take a chance on kids that may end up being their demise. Course the Iowa HR forum fanatics would rather see them bring in these kids that may end up having long term adverse effects on the program just to hopefully finish with a 2-6 place finish. But hey be tuff be the villian embrace the dark side and whatever else the delusional fans say.

They recently had some guys who were really hard to root against. Kemmerer was a class act. As was the Bull, for as much as he is a board punching bag for his NCAA performances. Murin seems like a good guy.

ADS made strides with his mental demons while there. I know opinions vary greatly on here about him. And mine sway as well. But I think overall he's a better person than before he went to Iowa.

A lot of their guys at a were ones you didn't mind seeing their hand raised if PSU wasn't affected.

But that quickly went aside for the likes of the Ferrari clan. And a catch PSU no matter what fronted at least publicly by Side Show Bob.

To paraphrase Smalls... What's going on in Iowa?

Since it’s an established fact that Cael’s only strength is his recruiting ability, maybe TnT should try a little humility and ask Cael for some recruiting advice.

The olympic redshirt saved Fix a year didn't it?

If Robbie can stay healthy I am beginning to believe a lot of these chalked losses at 125 can become wins...

Remember, this room had Thomas Gilman and Roman Bravo Young, and also Remember, Robbie went 2-2 while wrestling hurt 2 years ago at Nattys

And yes, I am doing a full 180 on Robbie Howard. I'm all in.

Hopefully, Robbie is the next Nico.

A 180 on Robbie?

Robbie has always had the talent, he's a hammer. Succumbing to or conquering injury will unfortunately define his career. I think this board is near 100% enthusiastic about next year's team with a fully healthy Robbie throughout. He can do great things, especially in a with class that has cleared out, he will be in the mix.

If this team stays healthy, odds are favorable we have 10 AAs. Although not likely, we might have a 10-20% chance of all 10 getting to the semis. Think about that!

No, Fix got popped in February of his ORS year so it worked nicely he just returned for conferences in 2021 after Oklahoma State basically hosted a tournament to get him enough matches lol.

After the recent transfers I thought 8 finalists would be possible.

Nico was an NCAA finalist as a true frosh. Robbie has lots of potential but unless he makes the finals the next 3 years and wins at least 1 title he will not be the next Nico.
