He lost to Yianni twice this weekend, both by criteria. IMHO, the weight cut will make it tough for him, but he probably has a better chance at 65kg than trying to beat out JB and Dake, etal at 74kg.
He obviously has a better chance at the lower weight......BUT........this weekend the weight was +3kg. If he weighed in on the mark he still must lose another 6 lbs. 10 0z. to make 65kg. I can't imagine he will look as good in the 2nd period as he did this weekend. I wish him luck but I'm not betting on him.He lost to Yianni twice this weekend, both by criteria. True, but 4(5) years ago, what chance would you have given Molinaro?I mean to be honest, 65 is an up hill battle. Not only do you have to win olympic trails but then you still have to go into the last chance and qualify 65 kg for the US. Tough competition at world last chance qualifier to say the US will have a spot at the Olympics just yet. I’d say the US has about a 20-30% chance of qualifying 65kg

20-30%??? Geez what other countries will be at LCQ??
Have the Olympics decided to decrease bracket sizes?
Zain vs. Amine or Habat ... if that's the barrier, book Tokyo now.
So what? Zain has pounded both Amine and Habat.i bet we all thought the same thing when zain had the argentine in the semis of pan ams
Khinchegashvili,Aliev,Bekbulatov,Skriabin,Habat and Amine only 2 of them will qualify the others would be at the World Qualifier. And I don't think Zain will be the guy to qualify the spot.
Coulda swore DT won that tourney and qualified 86 for us. Canada in March / April, right?? What ”finals“ are you talking about?
There are some Russians who are doing their dual citizenship with other countries as well. Not to mention you have all the tweeners at 61 and 70 kg that could go to 65kg.20-30%??? Geez what other countries will be at LCQ??

Burroughs plans on wrestling through the 2024 Olympics. He may not make another Olympic team but with ten weights for worlds who is going to beat him?I think Green has made his last World team, along with Burroughs and Gwiz.
All that just for a chance to make a team every four years. It blows my mind what any of these Olympic athletes do. (Not talking the break dancing lol). That'd be a crazy life.Back to Green. It is amazing to me what these guys will do to chase their dreams. Hey James, "If you want to make an olympic team, then completely change your diet, lose so much weight that you are not sure you will be able to perform, train like a madman, and then you still only have a 1 outta 10 chance of making the team and competing" James Green says, "Sure. No problem. When should I start?" Just amazing how dedicated and focused these guys are.
Nope... nope.Tying a couple of threads in a knot with this one, but just imagine what this guy guess through in his training regimen (coming to the olympics in 2020?)
At least he doesnt have cauliflower EARTying a couple of threads in a knot with this one, but just imagine what this guy guess through in his training regimen (coming to the olympics in 2020?)

I would agree hes not in the same tier as the guys listed.I only mentioned him replying to el-jefe where he was mentioned.I went to Google dot com to try to figure out how Malik Amine warranted even a mention in a conversation about the challenges the USA faces in qualifying 65 kg for the Olympics. (Turns out, he doesn't ... In between his 1-2 performance at NCAAs his senior year and his 10-0 tech loss to Rich Durso at the first NLWC event, he had only two wins in international competition, as near as I can tell, one over a wrestler from Mexico, the other over a wrestler from Guam.)
In any case, during my search, I found an article on a news website from Michigan about the Amine brothers and their decision to wrestle for San Marino. "How realistic were my chances of making the U.S. team?" Malik was quoted as saying. "It was possible, but there are politics involved."
The politics of not being nearly good enough ... the same petty BS that derailed my Olympic dream.
