Cox wins bronze by DQ!

Bizarre finish. Cox up 1-0 at 5:00 but put on the shot clock (which itself was bizarre -- Salas didn't do much of anything the entire match). Cox got in deep on a shot, action was allowed to continue until 5:54, when a stalemate was whistled -- that made the score 1-1 with 6 sec left, Salas would win on criteria.

John Smith was adamant that it was a takedown for Cox.

Zadick threw out the Challenge Pokemon, and it was successful -- that made the score 3-0 Cox (though the scoreboard said 3-1).

Then the Cubans went ballastic, and Salas quit the match -- literally -- refused to return to the center for the last 6 sec.

Cox rewarded takedown by replay. Salad received pt due to passivity clock lapsing prior to takedown (I think). Salas simply then refused to wrestle last 6 seconds. Bizarre indeed.

Cox was on the clock but if you shoot and are scrambling, they generally do not award the point until it's resolved. They awarded Cuba the shot clock point but we challenged whether Cox had the TD which would have nullified the clock point. Cox was able to cover Salad's hips but Salad still had a hold of Cox's ankle scrambling. 3-0

The Cubans tried to protest but the judges refused because they already made the ruling on the sequence. Surreal...

I believe Cubans were protesting about it going that far because they didn't get to that takedown position where it could have/was awarded until after the shot clock was over

Folkstyle has had its share of controversy, but it pales in comparison to international freestyle. I hope the wrestling community will continue to make rules adjustments to make the sport easier to watch.

One thing I really hope happens: get rid of the 30 sec Stall Clock and just give the penalty point. Current rule allows one guy to go into a pure defensive shell -- and if he were previously trying to score, it stops all of his momentum.

I'm willing to hear arguments for the current rule, but offhand the only one I can think of is: the refs won't call a stalling point, but they will let the wrestlers settle it on the mat.

Got home wanting to see the J'den Cox match that garnered him the bronze medal... and the only coverage was of Tervel Dlagnev getting teched in the bronze metal match. WTF. Kid gets a medal and the coverage is of a hurt wrestler with a bad back getting teched in 30 seconds. Great coverage.

I hope so for both of these young talented wrestlers. Frank's got a stacked weight class and I do like Kyle Snyder's chances immensely.

Any medal at this point would make up for a shocking end to Jordan Burroughs Olympics. Never saw that coming. JB getting teched. That was hard to swallow.

Yea...I never thought I would give Frank a chance in hell to be honest. Thought he had a fluky trials and lucked out to get in but damn if his performance at the cup didn't make me a believer....if not in his talent than in his will and heart. Don't change a thing Frank...go out scrapping and get us a medal.

Frank wins his first match 2-2 on criteria, with a first-period takedown. Real good win -- opponent was ranked #2 at the next weight up (70 kg). Announcers made an interesting point: the Pole was one of the guys who originally got kicked out for PEDs, which allowed Frank in.

Gomez beat Novachkov. Gave up a 4-pt combo (crotch lift into an ankle lace) on a failed shot, then dominated.

Snyder 10-3 over Cuba. Better and a far bigger gas tank. Cuban folded like a cheap accordion in the 2nd.
