minn thread...

Has a ‘fleeing the mat’ stall call EVER been awarded to the benefit of Penn State, you know the team with the actual best wrestlers for the past 10 years? One would think with the caliber of wrestlers Penn State has had, you would have seen at least one in their favor.

It wasn’t fleeing the mat. He called stalling on Nevills when he hung on to Stevenson’s stand up and then again when Seth backed off the mat.

Looks like someone finally woke up Steveson. He looks disinterested at times.
He got that takedown in the third that made it 6 - 2 or something like that and when the Minnesota bench yelled to release him Steveson looked disgusted. A look that said, yeah ok, but GDit - why.

Tough to compare how stalling is called from one dual to another. You can maybe argue that Gross should have been hit with stalling against RBY, but the calls against Verk in the Minny dual were justified IMO. From a general perspective, almost any stall call against Verk is understandable because his entire MO against any opponent with a pulse is to block/stall most of the match and try to win by one point.

Again, I had no problem with the call on Verk - the Ref clearly was not going to allow Verk to stall his way to victory... and I agree with the call, Lee had 2 TDs to Verk's 1 and just absolutely dominated the action the last 2 periods. Essentially, the Ref was making it clear to both wrestlers that next TD wins and he wasn't going to allow Verk to back into a win via illegal stalling (in this case, wrestling exclusively defensively attempting to preserve a one-point win and not carrying half the offensive action as required by the rulebook. It's an illegal strategy and when you make it clear that this is your intent and strategy you deserve to be penalized.). Gross should not have been rewarded by the Ref for pursuing such a strategy for the entire 3rd period - it's absolutely an illegal strategy to pursue, and it was quite obvious that this is precisely what he was doing (attempting to make a 1-point lead stand-up for the entire 3rd period) and it should have been penalized by the Ref, not rewarded.

Ok who do you guys like between GS and Parris? Myself think it is a toss up..Should be a great match to fast and good hwts.

He wouldn't get there at all.

OK. We get it. You do not think Rasheed is wrestling well and are not optimistic about his chances in the post season; however, your negativity towards the guy is over the top. I am sure he is doing the best he can and has battled through multiple injuries.

Next time you want to post something about Shakur stuff a donut in your mouth instead.

Got it, thank you. Point stands though, but I will broaden it to either fleeing the mat, or backing off the mat? I don’t remember ever having that be awarded to Penn State despite 10 years of many people wrestling on the edge against these guys and running away off the mat.

Editing to say that it is routinely called against Penn State, but seemingly nobody else.

Gross didn’t stall for the entire 3rd period. He “only” stalled for the last 30 seconds.

Need to harness it better though. First couple shots were terrible. Low shots from far away with no setup = easily counter takedowns.

3rd takedown wasn't an awful shot against many HWTs ... but this isn't many guys.

Still, the effort was there, just need to refine the technique.
He tried a snatch single very early in the match that looked good. I don’t mind him taking bad shots in a clinched dual though. Good way to really measure yourself. Much better for his development than shutting down.

Wrong, Gross did not once attempt to generate his own offense during the entire 3rd period - that is the textbook definition of stalling (failure to carry half the offensive action). Contrast that with RBY who was in on multiple attempts in the 3rd (was stall-mated by Gross around 1 minute and the Ref allowed it to go way too long before calling the stalemate). RBY was responsible for 100% of the offensive action in the 3rd and took 4 or 5 legitimate shots / scoring attempts. Again that's the rulebook definition of stalling and Gross did it the entire 3rd period, you don't know what you're talking about regarding the rules.

Certainly not the worst time to see what works and what doesn't.

I'd like to see him snap more and more aggressively. If Steveson doesn't have 7 minutes of focus, shorten his attention span.

I'm pleasantly surprised at how quickly BTN has been posting videos to YouTube after a match lately. It's great for those of us who don't have access to BTN.

BTW, I'm ecstatic that Nick Lee has joined the ranks of those great PSU wrestlers who you never worry about the outcome of a given match anymore. The only question is what the margin of victory will be!

and Nick Lee played along ... that’s not helping our cause
Sparks is the guy who thought Poochie was cool and didn't get why they killed him off.
