NCAA Session 6 Thread

Per Byers...
Donald Rumsfeld is handing out the 184 awards. Huge cheers for him from the crowd. Spent a moment with Navy wrestler. Likely meant a lot to him.

Nolf and Nickal both need to add a bit of Retherford muscle to their games.
So...the good news is we CAN have improvement next year at more weights.

Damn, Cox wins it 4-2, with a TD in the last 15 seconds for the win.

Morgan just could not get any of his low leg attacks going - just could not find an angle. Honestly, Morgan is lucky that he didn't give up the take down a couple times earlier. Cox's defense was impenetrable and he got the better of the offensive sequences. It was not as close as the score indicated imho - sucks and I feel for Mac, but that's the reality. Have to hand it to MacIntosh, he's one of the classiest wrestlers going (give Cox credit too) - after the match, they acknowledged each other's effort like gentlemen.

Yeah... two pretty evenly matched was wrestles Cox got it done. Hats off. Morgan thanks and great career....

Good example of Gwiz's size advantage with skill right there on Snyder's first two shots - how many times have you seen Snyder be denied like that to thwart his attacks???

That's what I took away from that match.

Gwiz and Snyder are both not true heavyweights. That's why Snyder will have trouble with Gwiz.

wow, what an amazing 285 final. Gwiz was phenomenal, and I thought he had it. But Snyder got the TD with 15 sec to tie it up, and then got the TD in OT to win.

Announcers cannot understand why a stalling warning was called. What a surprise.

Awesome match, really entertaining finals overall, some tough losses for the good guys but very entertaining all around

Great HWT match. It appeared Gwiz tired in the 3rd and wasn't able to fight off Snyder's shots like he did in the first 2 periods.

Announcer throwing a dagger at hawks as they go off the air......first time team is off the podium since 2007

Agreed, didn't see that one coming - Gwiz had Snyder beat, but Snyder kept coming and Gwiz simply ran out of gas in the 2nd half of the 3rd. With only half the 3rd to go, Gwiz had a 3 point lead and RT-Adv, but then proceeded to give up the escape, a TD and lose RT-Adv because he simply ran out of gas! (then gave up another TD in 1OT neutral SV). Did not see that one coming - really didn't think Snyder would be tiring out the guy he was giving up 30 lbs to especially when he was expending way more energy to stay in the match and limit the RT-Adv the best he could. Shocked that Gwiz is the one who gassed and couldn't hold on the lead and a fairly easy win if he doesn't gas.

I can't stand that arrogant pr@ck. No one except cornell rats like him. Wish they'd stop their constant interviews with him

Expect the focus was because he is from a NY school.

It's marketing. Trying to draw fans from the huge NYC market.

The overall coverage by ESPN was great, but this finals coverage was annoying with ALL of the commercials. Why not show the kids getting their individual medals like they used to do. I'd much rather watch that than the same Auto Zone commercial over and over again. The kids work their asses off all year; they deserve to have their moment in the sun on national TV.

In the final analysis, a SLIGHT disappointment in regards to Bo's loss, but he will learn and the next time he gets out there, he'll play it safer and win a nice, boring 5-2 Oklahoma State-style gold medal. In regards to the other 4 matches, we were just the slightest bit behind in the two losses, but Megaludis made everything right with his big win. I would be very surprised if Retherford lost another match, although it certainly COULD happen, I don't think he will lose more than one match the rest of his career.

Good news: We have our hammers back next year, all at the same weight with added muscle. Zain, Jason, and Bo.

And although it does not guarantee a gold for Jason, I promise you Imar isn't going to be able to hold 157 next year, dude was pulling a good 20 pounds all year.
