NCAA Session 6 Thread

Bo probably could have played it safe after he was up 4-2 and grinded out a win. That's not how he wrestles though. He goes after points all match long. A lot of guys probably would have played it safe and never tried a throw like that. Bo has done that all season and has been successful. I can't blame him for going after it. He might look back and regret not grinding it out but he should be proud. He's not a grinder. He's the guy who looks to score big every period. You have to respect a guy like that.

Bo is too good getting to legs to try stuff like that all the time. If it's there fine but Martin was never going to get to Bo's legs

Funny you should say that. I mentioned something similar a few days ago to a PSU wrestling fan. Bo showed early in the year that he is great at getting to legs. He also showed that he's got great hips, and can throw almost anyone. My comment a few days ago was that I was worried that he had become too enamored of the throws, and gotten away from the fundamental TDs.

Hey, coming in 2nd as a RS fresh is nothing to sneeze at. We all know it could have been more, which is frustrating, but hopefully Bo learns from the experience.

It is just tough to swallow a loss to someone you beat three times this year. Martin wrestled him well but Bo needed to be smart and attach the legs. He would have killed him with lower body tonight.

Bo went for it and it didn't work out in his favor. That's his style and I wouldn't change that. Next year's team is going to be better than this one.

I hope Bo learned it's OK to win these matches by winning the take down battle. If he doesn't loose the throw and focuses on takedowns it's all over. Bummer

i want to throw up watching martin win....cant say he didn't deserve it.....but what did he do expcet captilize on mistakes....don't think he will beat Bo again. He got his once in a lifetime.

Smack can make this a good night by beating Cox.

When you put 5 on the finals mat, your odds of winning them all are nearly zero

11-9 final

If Bo played it straight, Martin doesn't take him down and Bo wins.

Live and learn.

[...] Also didn't use his time well in the third period.

Remember when Molinaro was down and came back at the very end of the clock in freestyle? Nickal did not have enough calm and oomph left to match Molinaro's urgency and effort. Maybe in that sense, he's still a freshman and not a seasoned veteran. Still, a fantastic first campaign!

Except the move he tried wasn't a throw. It was an underhook with cross-ankle pick. He lost his grip on the ankle, and then Martin rolled him.

Bo just didn't look himself last two matches. He looked tired in both.

Well I thought we'd go 4/5...I hope MM can beat Cox. Cox is a physical specimen and very talented. I'm worried. MM needs to go out a champion like Nico but???????

Zain might have pinned him in the first when he had the boots in, Sorenson was flattened out and Zain was working the head and half when the official called a completely bogus Stalemate bailing Sorenson out of a position that Zain has pinned a ton of guys from! Completely bull$hit, inconsistent officiating through the first 4 matches especially in regards to Iowa wrestlers in 3 of the matches. Absurd that Sorenson had ZERO Stall calls if Nico and Garret were called for 5 Stalls against Iowa wrestlers they were completely dominating the entire match!
yes, he called the stalemate as soon as Zain broke him down...

martin won't see the finals again...hard to get a bracket break that well for you. Even harder to have a better wrestler not make mistakes. Bo should had stuck to fundamentals and won the take down battle. Strong ride and win. Went big and lost what can we say. Love his style!! Wouldn't change it he learn and win 2 or 3 titles. Don't see anyone beating him. Unless he makes the mistake. Jackson wrestled him better than Martin.

If Bo wrestles without the mentality to throw all the time as his opponents know it's coming... he wins that match. The script followed the earlier Indiana match against Jackson. Almost an exact replay of that match. And what happened in that match? Bo lost.

He's got to stop trying to go upper body and go for the big throw. Three cross body ankle picks like in the Big Ten final wins that National Championship. Bo is very confident and tries to go big on every throw. The only problem is the opponent knows what throw is coming per his particular lock and is already looking to counter before Bo tries the throw.

Bo's got to realize the risk to reward... in an NC finals just isn't worth it. Guys like Jackson and Myles Martin anticipated his throws and have figured out how to counter each of his throws. It's wrestling instinct and leverage. The offensive guy has to make the throw work with strength and having the defensive guy off balance or you throw your hips in hard while trapping an arm to make a throw work. Jackson and Martin are as tall as Bo and Bo isn't able to horse those kind of elite wrestlers over... easily. Both wrestlers anticipated Bo's every throw.

Dean wins 5-3 at 184. Dudley was good at escaping when Dean was in, but he never really shot when he needed to in the last minute. Not sure if he ran out of gas, or just doesn't have enough offense.

Manning was his typical whining self when his challenge didn't win. It was a TD, IMHO.

Dean has to be the best in the country at any weight at suckering opponents into taking bad shots. And I do mean that as a compliment. He didn't win by going into statue mode. This would've been a blowout if he could've converted his own shots.

The way Bo wrestles is why we as PSU fans love him and why fans from other teams love to watch him. Unfortunately it cost him tonight, but at the end of the day wrestling would be much better if more kids wrestled how does. He didn't really need to try that move as I think he would have eventually won, but that is what makes him Bo and I hope he never changes.

Dudley look liked he gassed....he couldn't even muster the energy to even make a shot when down by 2 with only 30 seconds left....had absolutely nothing to lose regardless of how the shot turned out and couldn't even muster the energy to shot, he was just completely gassed. Basically dead even match through the first two, but Dean's better tank allowed him to dominate the third.

Gas tank...its been Dudleys crutch since HS in Irmo SC where I followed him (I'm military and my son wrestled when we were in SC at Ft. Jackson so I got to see him a bunch). Would've liked to see him win tho cuz he's a very nice young man.

I didn't think it was a td, he didn't have control of both hips, he was holding his right leg and controlling his right hip, never controlled the left side.

Somewhat disappointing finals night, but you'll have that when you send 5 out there. Wouldn't want to be Iowa, they sent 3 out and lost all of them. 2-3 is better than 0-3.
