Noteworthy Results and Goldfish Games - Week of Jan 3

Maybe his serious blood infection had something to do with his “struggles” last year. Just a thought
Well yeah, he wasn't his best form last year but he was fine on bottom to be honest against big guys. Only the top 3 rode him. In fact, he turned Wood (I don't think Jordan Wood was at his best last year either tbh)

I agree. If Iowa won't come to State College, then forget them, let's focus on teams that want our attention.
Especially since Iowa will once again be largely irrelevant to wrestling for the next 10 years or so.

Totally different. The kid that didn't wrestle had his shirt pulled at the Scuffle. He could have gone unattached. To put the icing on the cake he was told (and it was published) he was going to debut at Carver last night.

Imagine being a transfer in as a Kem insurance policy. Say he gets at 20% Scholy. If Kem goes this year he shirts and wrestles next year (2 years of aid), if Kem can't he burns his shirt and gets to wrestle.

If there was any chance of Kem going this year, let alone on the 10th of January, you don't pull a kid's shirt a week earlier.

Now the kid is stuck at Iowa, his shirt is gone, of Kem stays healthy he doesn't get to wrestle, and next year lacking eligibility, he has to pay for his own tuition 100%. Most kids would at least question why the F@#$ did I come here in the first place?

The ONLY weak rationale I can muster is maybe Brands wants them to go dual duty hoping Swafford gets enough quality wins that if Kem can't make it, Swaf both qualifies and gets a seed for insurance? Fat chance. If that's the case then you lay it out for the kid ahead of time, or he should have had his shirt pulled in November - which obviously didn't happen.

He has really f'ed this kids wrestling career either way. If his plan was to use him as an insurance policy in case Kem's attempt to make a go of it fails, you think he would have at least discussed it with him and not reneged on a commitment to start him against Minnesota with zero notice effectively at weigh-ins!

So no blame on the Big 10? Would have been easily solved.
Zero blame on Bigten because this discussion is 100% on nonconference meetings. With regard to a conference meeting that is a different discussion. Yes, I wish we had conference meetings, but they worked out a fix, Cael held up his end and Brands has continued to duck! Put up or shut up and stop giving scheduling excuses (that are for wusses), he schedules travel all over the US, he is just too afraid to come to Rec Hall unless the Conference forces him to come. Honestly, as Iowa fans you should be p!ssed off too, you should want to see your wrestlers wrestle against the best.

Well the problem is you made most of this up.

Swafford is a life long Iowa fan and chose to walk-on (0% scholarship) knowing full well he likely would never see the mat. Still chose to come to Iowa to compete because being in the room and the slim chance of getting in the lineup was his dream.

That dream isn't dead. His shirt was pulled b/c Kem is not going to wrestle every match the rest of the year. Nelson is injured. Some one is needed at 174 other than Kem. THIS is the BEST route for Swafford to get into the lineup while hes at Iowa.

They burned his RS at the Scuffle knowing it wouldn't matter later - he got to travel with the team and have expenses paid for by the university.

Iowa (and PSU and other schools) constantly put out probable lineups that don't equal what they end up putting on the mat. Sure his family was upset that he didn't compete that night - and that sucks, but that is life it happens all the time.

Fellers knew early in the day, that's why he tweeted out that we'd see Grandpa at Carver that night. It sucks for Brennan for that night, but we will be seeing him in the lineup this year.

I get you guys don't like TnT, but you are all just making up scenarios and running with them as if they are fact to shit on Iowa and TnT.

Kem has been at Iowa for 7 years paying his dues and has sacrificed a ton for the program. He was getting back in the lineup at some point and wanted to go that night.

If this happened at PSU (and it has) ya'll would be defending Cael to the death for choosing his Senior to get into the lineup over a walk on that he said "right now" is our guy.

As far as Brennan 's brother being pissed and complaining about this online, it should be obvious. He posts frantically all the time. The reason I know Brennan walked on is because HE posted it. We're talking about a guy who posted his own financial problem with details on the damn internet. OF course Brennan wasnt going to share with ahead of time that he wasn't going to be in the lineup, only to have his brother tweet about it before hand

Well the problem is you made most of this up.
Or…. He read most of it on tHR board, where it was posted and discussed over the course of 6 or 7 pages of your MN vs Iowa thread.

That is some serious Kool Aid drinking vibe good sir. I get you worship Tommy Boy, but you are just making up scenarios and running with them as if they were fact to heap roses on Iowa and Tommy Boy.

Is there any chance that his walk out music was Alanis Morissette- Ironic?
If he goes today, that would actually be a gloriously good-natured way of putting this behind them. In the famous words of Cosmo Kramer,

I have a very simple question for you. Who told you the information you provided in you first four paragraphs?? Was it a reliable source, a member of the staff or who? Actually, I think you just made that s*hit up. It's alright, just admit it. You will feel better

Still chose to come to Iowa to compete because being in the room and the slim chance of getting in the lineup was his dream. - He literally just did an interview stating he has been lifelong Iowa fan, His brother posted on HR when he transferred that he chose to walk on over going elsewhere b/c of this

- as for the rest, you are right it is just conjecture, based on paying close attention to the team and how the coaches operate for the past 10-15 years.

In Goggles original post he said: "Say he is on 20% scholarship....." which is him creating a scenario for which the rest of his post was based on. Since that point was false that makes the rest of the post fiction as well.

If Kem goes today over Swafford, you can rag on me all you want

All I have done in the previous post is introduce a much more likely explanation then. Tom is too stupid to manage a lineup after 15 years as a head coach or Tom wants to screw over his own wrestlers.

ESPN+ slipped some more matches into the broadcast schedule . . .

- Binghamton vs WVU vs VaTech going now in some sort of hybrid event
- Army vs Pitt on now
- Michigan vs Pitt @2pm (Ragusin-Phillippi a good matchup there, plus LittleAmine-Wentzel; match notes for Michigan have Brucki back in, so he & Bonaccorsi could be a good one).

Also, a reminder for NC State vs Princeton @1pm while we tailgate for the PSU match. 🙂

Apparently, Glory out “due to injury”. I hadn’t heard/seen anything on that before now. What did I miss?

Hey dope, re-read the post again, s-l-o-w-l-y.

" Say he is on 20% scholarship...." Now read the first word "Say" as in 'for example' or 'for illustration'. That's where I got that piece of information, out of my ass, on purpose.

No doubt the kid gets aid of some sort, an atheletes dining card, free books,... We have no idea how much aid he gets but I tend to doubt it is absolutely zero.

I will stand by their initial legitimate posts of outrage as to how well Brands handled it. Not once someone is on the obligatory apology tour

No moving on with this point. "Tommy likes tough wrestling only when his guys have distinct advantages" is way too much fun to harp on. Tommy wasn't coming because of the ass kicking, snot draining beating his guys were going to have to endure on a prime time broadcast.
What the heck do you think the chances are Tommy travels, unmandated by the BIG10, to State College in the next couple years?

Rutgers pulled good looking freshman Olivieri's redshirt, he's in today against Wisconsin. That may mean trouble for Alvarez's injury, any official news on that?

Obviously I knew what you meant, which is why i pointed it out. I'm not sure what your point is here.

The rest of of the 4 pages of posts since your post seem to run with your post as if it were fact. What you seem to be missing is Swafford can still redshirt next year if he wants to be in school for 2 more years and receive that dining hall card (as you imply)

We don't know how Brands handled it which was my point. We don't know what he communicated to Brennan and at what time. Everyone is assuming he didn't tell Brennan anything. It could just be that Brennan didn't inform his family b/c his brother has a knack for posting every little emotion he has publicly. Adam Fellers sure seem to know early in the Day Friday that it would be Kem and not Brennan. Just like he knew Ayala would in fact be in the lineup and we would see Gable (or maybe he just got luck on those 3 predictions)

Hi Gantry, love your posts. They are saying on the Rutgers board that Alvarez missed weight, which is doubly confusing since that doesn't seem to be a reason to pull someone's shirt for one match. Guess we'll have to wait and see...

Hey Sportfan........your posts are mediocre at best. How many times does he have to miss weight before a significant move is made?

Nine reasons Tom wasn't coming and didn't talk about it until a year later
1 RBY
2 Lee
3 Berge
4 Nolf
5 Joseph
6 Hall
7 Rasheed
8 Nickal
9 Cassar

Perrennial Elite Mike Van Brill falls to Austin Gomez 11-1. Tossed to his back for 6 in the closing seconds.

In other news, #11 Scott giving #5 Monday a match, up 4-3 in the 3rd.
And Scott wins 6-4.

Massa and Amine with quick falls.

Brucki (w/ big elbow brace) is indeed taking the mat vs. Bonaccorsi.
2-2 in 2nd. Nino w/ TD, Brucki w/ two E’s.
Brucki TD in closing seconds of 2nd, 4-2.
Nino escapes early in 3rd, now 4-3.
TD Brucki, wins 6-3.

Parris MD.
Suriano goes for UM. Wins 18-7.

Medley going 133 vs Phillippi. The latter wins 5-2.

Matthews giving Micic a match. 3-3 in 2nd, and Matthews puts him on his back for 7-3 lead going into 3rd. TD Micic, then locked hands and escape. 9-5 Matthews. 10-5 Matthews (I missed a point somewhere). Micic gassing hard. Matthews wins 11-5 w/ RT point.

Mattin in at 149 (Storr still out). Beats Mancini 9-4. Lewan over Cleary 3-1. Wentzel by forfeit.

Final score Michigan 29, Pitt 12.
