did that dickbag in the studio just claim that Wisconsin outplayed Penn State?
Yes. I caught that too. First half they did until they shot themselves in the foot. Second half no way. Penn State earned that win in the second half last week. The defense was lights out all game. Just took the offense a half to catch up.

I think the days of JoePa civility are gone. Times change. Backups want to play hard too - their D needs to keep playing. Have no problems with the 'late' TD.

I would agree except...

Check out Penn State's last TD late in the game against Rutgers back in 1997. Of course, the working theory is that MM had money on the spread and called an audible.

The 2008 game at Syracuse is a better example. Up 48-13 under 4 min in the 4th, 4th and 12 and Cianciolo throws a 30+yd td to Moye.

Completely ridiculous! Wisconsin averaged 3.0 yards per rush - which is putrid. Wisconsin's Passing Game numbers were even worse - including a putrid per attempt, per reception, average, 0 TD throws and 2 INTS. PSU's passing numbers versus Wisconsin's D were pretty decent. In what butt-phuck, b1g, midwestern fantasy world did Wisconsin remotely outplay PSU????

I hate piling on late but why did it come to that? Why wasn't Roberson in the game after Luketta's pick 6? Was Franklin worried that Ball State would score then line up and go for 30?

Went to dinner during the second half with my daughter who was visiting for the weekend. Got home and watched the second half.

The targeting rule needs to go. I have never seen a rule so inconsistently called, interpreted and applied. I don’t see how a runner lowers his head to attack a defender and the defender is called for targeting. This is tackle football, not Tiddlywinks. There is way too much room for subjectivity. Maybe calling a PF, but a player should not be ejected for a game’s worth of time on such tenuous evidence.

The runner is allowed to lead with the crown of his helmet but the defender cannot do the same?

I understand the intent but there should be no bias towards the offense over the defense with respect to using one's helmet.

Obviously there is bias. In this case the bias is written into the rule. It's idiotic.

And a helmet hitting a shoulder pad should not cost a player a half a game.

Agreed; that's why bogus Pass Interference calls such as that against King invoke such emotion.

That call was brutal - what cracks me up is when you watch how these same b1g assholes call duhO$U, scUM, Iowa or Wisconsin..... There is mugging after mugging but no flags (look at duhO$U - Minny game as a good example. duhO$U d-backs just mug Minny on an every long-pass (or pass into EZ) basis - quite literally every time and they threw 2 flags out of double-digit offenses.

Penalty doesn't say anything about where first contact is made..... what it prohibits is "aiming" and "targeting" your first contact to be with your crown. I do agree the offensive player should have also been called as he was targeting the crown of his helmet for first contact as well.

Some defensive personnel observations :
- After a subpar season in 2020, Luketa is flourishing in his expanded role.
- Daequan Hardy is a guy you just can’t keep off the field. He’s a big upgrade in nickel coverage.
- Nick Tarburton is quietly making a very solid impact.
- We have a lot of depth in the secondary. Great to see some new guys playing at safety.
- I can see why Judge Culpepper transferred. Some of these younger DT’s look legit.

I think he has the strongest leg I've ever seen at PSU. His punts and kickoffs are incredible. Also, the 45 yarder was like a rocket.

David Kimball’s Kickoffs usually went they the uprights. But he didn’t punt. Stout is special.

I saw the announced attendance but what is the estimate of fans in the stadium. TIA.

We were in EG and although the stadium was not full for kickoff, it filled pretty completely by the end of the 1st quarter. I could not see the very top of the student section to see if it was completely filled, but the north corner of the west side seemed to be the last to fill up, but it did fill up.

But the density was not up to what it is for a top opponent. Around us there were no shows so everyone could spread out a little, and I would bet it was that way about everywhere. Additionally, to top tiers of the end zones were visually sparse, probably somewhere around 60% filled.

And "fans" started clearing out in the 3rd quarter.......

So the 105K+ announced I do not believe made it to their seats.......

A couple comments on the game:

PSU ground game is not ready for prime time. Oline does not create many running lanes. And this is with Ball St. mostly playing a deep zone to try and take away the longer throws to Dotson & Co.

Clifford is what he is, and still by and large can not put deep throws in catchable locations. He obviously overthrows way too many deep patterns when WR's are open, and he had a scramble where there was a receiver 10 yards open in all directions that he overthrew by 10 yards. Also overthrew a quick pass to one of the RB's that the RB just watched sail over his head. Pretty sad that this can not be corrected, as Clifford himself must be the most upset about it when he watches the tape, week after week....

A good game for player development, which does explain some of the up and down play against an outclassed opponent - except for the Oline which seemed to play in tact for most of the game (yep, what's the excuse for the lack of running lanes???). The running stats look good overall, but are skewed by the long Clifford run and a couple of 2nd half drives where Lee got some room and made the best of it. Not much consistency in the first half.

But lots of backups got experience on Defense.
- Kobe King seems to start off each of his appearances with a PI penalty, but obviously is a talent that should get better as he plays.
- I was impressed with the Safety Rudoph who seemed to be around the ball and make some tackles
- At LB Katshir played some, along with King and Elsdon later in the game. I heard both King and Elsdon get the call for tackles, but it was way on the other end and we could not really see how they looked.
- At DE Vilbert played a good bit and seemed to be around the action against the run, but I didn't see him get to the QB. Fisher also got some plays but it seemed his bull rush didn't result in significant pressure on the QB either.
- Strongman DT Mulbah #55 seemed to get into the game pretty early and got significant playing time and looked like he did well.
- Also great to hear CSB's name called on a catch, along with Wilson. Need to get more WR's ready to play and contribute.
- I'd like to see Dotson get a little more aggressive in actually fair catching punts. There was one in the first half, a shorter kick, where it only landed 7 or 8 yards in front of him (just a few steps for someone as quick as he is) and he just let it hit and then bounce 15? yards past him, just giving away field position that the Defense fought hard to get. Just don't understand why someone with such great hands doesn't run to the ball and fair catch punts....

The highlight play had to be the one handed INT by Luketa, and with Luketa playing both LB and DE pretty well he would be my player of the game.

It looked like a couple of Stout's KO's may have gone threw the uprights, but it was hard to tell with the naked eye. From the TV broadcast did anyone see if one or more actually did go through, 75 yards away? I was still hoping for Pinegar, but he must be either hurt or in the doghouse.
