"Police at Louisiana State University are investigating whether a fraternity hazing led to the death of a freshman student, according to university officials.

Maxwell Gruver, a Phi Delta Theta Fraternity pledge, died Thursday, LSU Media Relations said.

LSU President F. King Alexander reiterated that while the 18-year-old's death is being investigated as a "potential hazing incident," many details of what occurred before his death are still unknown.

All Greek activities at the university were suspended "indefinitely, pending the results of a thorough investigation," he said at a news conference late Thursday."

Sad story. R.I.P.

And here I thought this only happened at Penn State due to our unique culture problem.

Are manslaughter charges pending?

Odd how you almost get off any time another school screws up...really odd.

I think he is pointing out the hypocrisy of people who claim that PSU has a culture problem but fail to see the same thing at other universities when a tragedy occurs. I don't think we know whether LSU "screwed up" in this case or not. A university is not necessarily responsible for every misdeed of every student.

This was clearly caused by a cult-like social dynamic and a cultural problem, unique to Baton-Rouge.

Media?

Exactly.

Similarly, "Please take this opportunity to remember that Penn State has a culture problem" is used because our football program was mischaracterized as such in spite of decades of evidence to the contrary and when many other college football programs have had or continue to have serious problems.

This stuff happens everywhere unfortunately and when the media tries to make it out that it only happens at PSU and is an indictment of Penn State that is what drives me crazy. These are tragedies but trying to make it seem that it only happens in certain places does nothing to raise awareness that it can happen anywhere and we need to realize that and take steps to prevent it. But that is not how the media works - they would rather tie it to something that generates more clicks and that is pathetic.

Wrong. PSU was in the news because of MULTIPLE incidents. It is like the Philly fans crying about the negative press.

YOU can thank BETA for the negative press the last year. In a year or two when another PSU organization does something stupid you can thank them too.

MEmo for PSU students, greeks and alumni: Don't let anyone die at your house, parties or social events. If someone dies, PSU will be in the news.

A young man just died at Lafayette College of a head injury after night of partying. However, no frat involved, so nothing to see there.
