PSU - Army Dual Thread

Not smart, Cael.

5 NCAA Championships in the last 6 years. That doesn't mean that he's never wrong, but i suspect that he's got a good handle on how to handle things as trivial (in the grand scheme) as who to send out to the center of the mat as captains.

One thing I just can't understand is having Bo as one of the captains to start the dual at center. After the 90/10 divide, what kind of message does that send to the rest of the team? Not smart, Cael.
Lemon Pie fits you like a glove.

Trust in John Doe! He's got sources!

I was hoping 90/10 split (divide) was already a meme here. Guess not quite.

gave up IE long ago... google chrome seems to be so much more reliable and even faster.

Downloaded both Chrome and Firefox, with identical results to IE in each case. Tried both of them a couple times previous to tonight, also without success.

locked hands on Harvey, and esc by Morelli, makes it 5-4 Morelli, with 1:11 of RT. Harvey got in with 10 sec left, but couldn't get the TD. with RT, it's 6-4 decision for Morelli.

PSU - 31
Army - 0
Morelli looked early on like he would crush this guy. Somehow he stopped scoring and let the whole match waste away. I think he would agree, he was furious with himself after the match.

No stream difficulties for me being as I got to be there, even took a tour of West Point earlier with the PSWC, on Veterans Day no less. Pretty big crowd, I think SHP's 70/30 assessment is right. Pretty encouraging night for our guys. I know Farr wasn't a great test for Nevills but great to see his quickness back. Looks completely different. Sunday will be a much more useful measuring stick.

Also impressed with the confidence Cenzo carries on the mat, setting up that cowcatcher off the release like Nolf did all last year.

Suriano looks like a wrestling machine. Would've been nice to see him turn from top, but he has time and room to work with since he won't be giving up many takedowns this year. (Anyone care to offer an over/under? Six?)

Cortez impressed too, turning a guy who didn't look like was going to be turned.

Nolf and Nickal appear to be on missions. Angry, vengeful missions.

Cutch being interviewed.

He felt good, felt strong, against Caywood. Has to get out of ties quicker against the big guys at 197. He did some things wrong he needs to fix for Sunday.
He was doing something technically wrong during the tie ups. The coaches took turns showing him stuff after his match.

Sounds like the squad really enjoyed their trip to the Academy on veterans day. Saw they partook in some dodgeball with the army squad earlier and toured the hollowed grounds. Priceless. Would love to see them regularly visit both WP and Annapolis. No better tribute to our service people than to have the best visit them annually.

Doesn't the Club have a deeper connection with Army? Isn't Brown, McIntosh, and D. Alton connected with Army, too?

I like Jimmy wrestling with urgency. He finished shots quickly and with authority. He came off the bottom like his ass was on fire, he had a wrist and cut it off quickly. The only thing I did not like about Jimmy's match was the TD he gave up. He was playing with his freaking headgear and the kid shot through to his legs with zero hands defense.

Team looked good. Looking forward to Sunday.

Yes. Dylan Alton is a coach for the West point wrestling club, Matt Brown is part of their World class athlete program, and I believe it's been said that McIntosh may be joining Brown in the WCAP.

I think just about everyone in the lineup showed great results in this first dual. Things get a lot tougher on Sunday, especially for Suriano, Gulibon, Morelli, and Nevills. I'm excited to see how they respond to these challenges.

Edit to say: Joseph has a much tougher opponent as well

That was a nice warm-up match. Army came out and worked hard but the boys in blue showed why they are the defending National Champions. I love the aggressiveness up and down the lineup.

Looking forward to Sunday and the next step in the process.

Time to ditch the 90/10 thing. Just is, please trust me. Anyone hear the wrestler interview after the Army Dual? Lot's of insight...so 'nuff said.

As far as the dual, Army was way out-matched. It's a long season, but I think we'll see more clues about this team against Stanford on Sunday. First, the competition will be tougher. Second, we have had "down" or "flat" matches in the second of a 2-match weekend before, especially early in the season. I'm excited to see how they perform tomorrow...and then again next weekend in a tournament setting.

My guess is they probably will have an interesting practice this AM. Or maybe already have had.

What is the problem with Bo being captain?

Sorry about that.

I don't post much stuff. I thought maybe there was an issue I hadn't heard about

I believe Lemon was trying to make a joke about the comments Doe made about Bo moving up to 184. If you recall, Doe said that caused a split within the team.
Much bigger test coming up tomorrow against Stanford....We will have to really get behind Nick S. when he wrestles Conner S. Conner is a very smart AA wrestler....LETS GO NICK...Nevills will have a tough guy too who is ranked 10th....Both Nick's can move up in rankings with win's....I know Stanford has some other guys ranked too....Yea 41 and 74 will be very tough...The kid at 141 beat Jimmy pretty bad last year....He is raked #2 in the nation....Place should be PACKED and ROCKING right away !!!!

I made the trip up the Hudson yesterday and was glad I did. This team may be the best one of the Cael era at PSU. Top to bottom, there are no real holes and there are a lot of guys who are ultra-special. For a first match, the team looked really sharp.

What is really amazing is the attitude of the team. I talked to a couple of parents of wrestlers yesterday and the kids have the attitude that it is an honor to wrestle for this program. Even better, their wrestling evidences that pride.

I was really impressed with Jimmy in spurts yesterday. When he turns it on, he can really do great things. I especially liked his reaction to being taken down. No moping - he got right out and got his own takedown in seconds. Loved seeing that from him.

The biggest thing setting this team apart was the dominance on top. The takedown edge was great but we've seen that before. These guys are looking to turn/pin their opponents at every point in time - and they are doing it. Color me very impressed.

Can't wait for the rest of the season. I think it's going to be outstanding.

This year will be another great one. And if projections hold next year is going to be just as great if not greater

I know. It's hard not to look ahead to next year's team and wonder if it can surpass this one.

I am going to try to focus on, and enjoy, this year's team and hope we can get a season of good health for them. It's going to be so much fun. This morning, Annieat285 was asking why we aren't going to the Stanford match. I reminded him of the eight hour driving time difference and all the great talent we will see at Journeymen's event in Troy, but there are still pangs of regret. ;)

I would love to see Mark Hall at 174 and Cassar at 197....That is a VERY SOLID line up....97 will be a good wrestle off with Cassar and clutch....Raseed could be very dangerous at 74 too...He pins a lot of guys...BONUS....
