PSU - OSU Match Thread

Solid match all told, except perhaps for Joe Lee getting caught, and even then he was wrestling pretty well until that point. Both Joe Lee and Beard seem to come out strong and hard in first periods.

Nick Lee, RBY, and Brooks were clearly dominant. Beard was on fire and showed Cael he made the right choice at 197. Berge, Nevills, and C-Starr proved they can win close ones. Freshman Howard and Bartlett fought hard against more experienced guys.

Boys looking good! Only real disapointing match was JLEE. He needs to clean it up. Not sure why last year he was wrecking kids and this year can’t get take downs. Still high on him and have faith he turns it around.

Starocci two weeks in a row with gutsy performances not only against #2 ranked guys but also righted the ship for both duals and bailed out Lee

Bartlett. No doubt in my mind he should be the guy. I don’t care what happens in the room, I trust my eyes and trust guys that can get to legs.

Howard..not sure what to make of him yet. Young freshman just getting his feet wet and he’ll only get better.

RBY animal tonight, Beard a beast tonight, NLEE dominant as always and Brooks a master!

Seth with a gutsy win. If he’s going to make the podium, Orndorff is type of guy he has to beat.

We make our home opener and season finale Monday. Would like to see Howard and Beau get two matches in to avoid anything

285: Seth Nevills vs. Tate Orndorff

Per 1
Nothing thru 1 min. TO reaches, nothing. No real shots thru 2 min. Neville nearly has an ankle, nothing. A little flurry, nothing. End

Per 2
Nevills takes bottom. set is up and out quickly, 1-0. Nevills shoots, came close but TO out. Neville shoots, stuffed, now TO with a bit of a body lock but nothing. End. RT @ 4 sec for TO

Per 3
TO takes bottom. Caution on Nevills I think. Then another caution -- not sure who on. TO stands, and he's eventually out after 16 sec, 1-1. Nevills in on a single but loses it. 1 min left. Neville in on a low single, close and gets the TD with 30 sec left, 3-1. Nevills working hard, then TO up at 10 sec, 2-3. End 3-2 Decision

28-12, PSU
I thought match woulda be a lot closer. Some guys really showed up big

WTF is this ref looking at?
Had him pinned for a good 15 seconds. Most impressive.
It's Angel.... Beard had him pinned like 3 different times before he finally called it.

Right, the ref's head is 1-2 feet from the action, and you guys had a better angle.

I've had matches where a guy's back was no more than 1/2" off the mat for over 2 minutes. The stands are going crazy, the coaches are going crazy, blah, blah, blah. You just stay in position, and wait to see if the offensive wrestler ever gets the defensive wrestler into an actual pin.

Beard would have gotten the pin sooner if he changed the grip on Hoffman's head, and elevated it. As it was, he was reaching across and Hoffman elevated the right shoulder. Beard was countering that with his moves on Hoffman's right foot.

Disappointed that HR has no thread on the match, because I really do like to see their thoughts. Like here, most of them are informed wrestling fans. Was looking forward to their PBP and perspectives.

Wow, that had all the markings of Brady knowing he had the blast double set up... and just kept it in his pocket until the end. Almost like if he needed it (i.e., was trying the ankle pick and a couple other things) he was just keeping it in his back-pocket.... and he just nailed it! That was lightning quick.

I think Brady is like that poker player who waits all night for the big pot. He spends his time reading his opponent, studying tendencies, and when it’s time to go all in, he’s ready.

Others will know better than I, but some of these guys are great at figuring out foot patterns of the opponent. Maybe Brady is one of the best.

Few people are more classy than the Jordan brothers. I still remember Micah went out of his way to shake all 3 of our coach's hands after the techfall by Nolf (all the brothers do it) They're humble in victory and defeat.

They're all great kids who represent the sport the right way. No need to trash their wrestling when they're all great wrestlers.
Say what you want about tosu, but this is the truth.

Starocci is going to make history and become the first NCAA finalist to not score a takedown all tournament long lol.

Live shot of the Hoffman backyard. Relax

So what did we learn about BB?

He got worked pretty good and still had energy. That says something to me.

Good effort by BB. Sasso is not a big 149 and BB looked small. He looked like a nice 141. Happy to see him represent, he showed some skills.

The leg wasnt helping Beard, shoulda focused on the head and get off your knees

Have to say I was shocked at how well Bartlett did against a probable NCAA finalist - that first shot was clean, clean, clean against one of the most sound, if not the soundest, defensive wrestlers in the NCAA. He held his own and that match was far closer than I expected if he made the start (frankly, I was very surprised he made the start). The good news is that the gap is not that huge - given how he looked against Sasso, he's got an outside shot at making some noise at B1Gs and NCAAs imho.

Someone should create a "Hot or Not" spectrum for teams in term of how hot-headed their coaches, athletes, and fans are.

Clearly, Iowa and Rutgers are among the "hotter" (hot-headed) teams. PSU (coaches and athletes at least ... not always sure about fans :) ) are "cooler". Ohio State wrestlers are generally cooler in temperament (e.g., the Jordans) ...not sure about the coach, although Ryan seems like a decent person despite the ribbing he gets. Okie State (and Smith) a bit "warmer" and so on.

BoBars TD was not only lightning quick but timed perfectly, I expect more of the same if he sees Sasso at BJC
