Rutgers dual thread - Jan 24

Soooo…who else is excited for Barr vs Buchanan?
I Am Laughing GIF by GrowthX

Since Cael, Cody and Casey arrived there has always been that one week in January the guys get run into the ground and sent out to compete with the instruction to overcome the fatigue and get it done. Based upon several posts I am assuming I missed the email about not mentioning it. When did that go out?

Buchanan is really good. Barr hasn’t felt anyone that good yet. Well, other than Carter. Oh, and probably Max Dean. . . and I’m sure Nickal has gone with him. And that Cael guy too—I guess he’s alright. Oh, and who was that fellah on the podium in Paris? But other than that, Josh is in for a big step up in competition.
As you alluded to, by the time Friday arrives Buchanan is most likely going to be Josh's easiest go since Poz.

What the hell did I just see?

Something just lit in third period and Poznanski looked like he was hit by a nuclear weapon.

I think I'm going to buy a cow.
Most likely what hit Poznanski in the third period was the message sent by being on the receiving end of a very dominant, two-minute second-period rideout, and the energy expended trying to escape it. Likely a brand new experience for the veteran, especially when considering it was laid on him by a redshirt freshman.

Had to chuckle after reading Goodale's pre-match comment, presumably experience-based, that Poznanski was "at his best" in situations where he had nothing to lose -- implying such would be the case in his match with Barr. Assuming the head coach actually had any idea what he was talking about when he chose to make that comment, we can only wonder if there might be words in the English language, any words at all, adequate to describe what Poznanski's "worst" might look like.

Or, in short, not only does Josh have to wrestle Buchanan, Buchanan has to wrestle Josh too.

Same as I did before lol
Gable is one of greatest heavyweights ever. Kerk will need to wrestle his best match to have a shot.Example, Scoreless first period. Ideally Kerk defers and Gable goes down in 2nd. Kerk mauls Gable for the period. I'll like Kerk at that point.
Gable is a totally different wrestler than when he lost to Cessar.

Great night! Just got home. Had seats 3 rows behind scorer table right next to RU bench.

Takeaways..Rizzler a big hit (I never heard of him before tonight)

No injuries so my curse is broken.

Just read thru comments. Everyone kind of spot on..only headscratcher to me was Kerks match. Neither guy did nothing, very strange match from him.

If you can see the look on Poz face after that match as he headed toward tunnel..as other have said, Barr absolutely broke him.

Peterson smiling ear to ear the whole match. At least one RU guy went home happy. Only RU guy that impressed me tonight was Turley. I would have bet anything on bonus points there.

Great crowd, RU fans electric after Peterson win, got quiet after Shawver and rest of night.
Video of Poz in tunnel.

I would have. When he kicked out of the leg attack as he turned to face Kerk his feet were both on the floor.

I agree both his feet were OB after the kickout, but how are you claiming that's not stalling? He fled the mat to avoid being taken down - that is defined directly in the Rulebook as stalling. He left the mat and went OB by his own choice to avoid a TD hold... that is textbook stalling.

Maybe coaches should be issued a red brick and a white towel to start a match. Goodale could of thrown towel to save Poz.
Many years ago Eddie Futch threw the towel in at the start of 15th round to protect Frazier against Ali in the 3rd fight.

I'm just wondering if, and, if so, when, it finally hit Goodale that Bo B visiting Rutgers on the night PSU was coming to town was *not* the best idea. 😫
You didn’t know? Evil Carl & his Fund are now paying other teams to schedule recruiting visits when PSU is in town. Goodale and the other coaches will use the cash to outspend Slumlord Bobby on recruits they actually have a shot at, while the high-enders are left with no doubt about where to go.

The (Lower) Playing Field Is Level.

Came across the PSU/Rutgers article recapping the match. Found this tidbit fascinating...
"We probably underestimated them a little bit on the mat,'' Goodale said. "They were really good on top. We struggled on the mat.''

How is it possible to underestimate PSU?

That does not see to be a good strategy in recruiting, when you state out loud that you "underestimated".

Bo are you sure you want hitch your wagon to the Rutgers program?

Luke appears to base his O on counter attacks and his opponents have that all scouted pretty well. He will need to sure that up. Davis did appear to be stalling in the rear standing position but it looked like, at times, Shawver had his fingers and wasn't letting him adjust or simply let go. Beau could have got a major but shut down during the last minute.. wish he wouldn't do that...SVN will be natty champ. Kasak impresses more than I thought. Mess - well, nothing to say. Levi - good match to work on technique and opponents funk. Star - seems every match opponent is wrestling on the OB line... Barr - Rutgers should of challenged one of the last few td's to give their kid a break... Kerk - wrestled cautious and couldn't get his shot to the right leg off well.
Thought Rutgers came to scrap and looked good. Their young kids do look like a good foundation although they'll be losing a few key Seniors. Big week coming up... We need to ensure we win most of the 50/50 matches. Look forw to seeing this crew LIVE!

Training through is a possible answer for the close match at 174, but I think Turley deserves credit for wrestling tough.

Levi won't always have the same strength advantage he enjoyed at 157 and might have to gut out more matches like this against top-20 guys.

Was thinking that as well. It looked like a replay of the Sugar Ray Leonard - Roberto Duran No Mas fight.

Just couldn't get past the hand fighting. Frustrating to watch.

I'm sure the PSU coaches can help him improve.
Shocking performance by Luke. Could not get thru Peterson's head hand defense. Didn't get to legs once? Vs a non AA? Wow. Lack of fight with :17 left on the restart is also alarming. Does our non AA at 125 continue this year?
