Shorter in the portal

This may be good news that KJ Hamler may be coming back next season. If that is true, Shorter must see the writing on the wall that he will be 3rd/4th receiver and he will try his luck elsewhere.

Not a chance Shorter is going to OSU, who has 3 5-star wide receivers coming in next year, all of whom expect to play as true freshmen.

Hamler be crazy to come back.

You mean the same coach that coached Godwin and moved on to bigger and better Alabama?
Yep and moved the next year to Michigan. But, he should have been fired because Mike G couldn't catch the ball. Why didn't Gattis fix that right away?

And what about the drops that hit Shorter right in the hands? What excuse do you have for him for that?
Didn't mention any other drops. Didn't make any excuses. Just pointed out that throw was three yards behind him.

IMO, its was good effort just to get close to the ball. He was running full speed, had to completely stop, and then move back towards the wayward ball.

IMO, that 'drop' was a terrible example of his having issues. Watch the replays, the last angle shown shows just how bad the throw was.

Had the ball been on target it was probably a touchdown.

When the ball is in the air, I have yet to see a coach make the catch. Perhaps you should watch Duke....they've had some decent years in the passing game.
But you just said he was all world 5 stars and taught all the skills needed in pop warner. How can that be?? his pop warner coaches didnt make his catches for him either.

Gattis was not Mike G.'s position coach it was RR and then Tyler Bowen, when RR got the OC job.
You are right I stand corrected. I do seem to recall that Mike G. said that it was poor coaching from Rahne that forced him to drop balls. Who would have blamed him had he quit and transferred?

His mother doesn't squat and shit for him either........so if he gets constipated, do we blame her?

Perhaps Shorter knows KJ and Pat (prayer hands) are staying, thus he knows he wont see many balls next year (i kid i kid)

I don't know but I'll give him props for waiting until the end of the season to do it.
I've been saying here for weeks, Slade is gone and possibly one other RB. PSU has 2 top talents coming. How many RBs can you stockpile?

But what if these repeated errors are by a few players and the others aren’t making those errors? Player or coach? Anyone that’s coached knows you can work with some players over and over again and they still don’t get it, or they freeze up in games and forget what they’re taught.

Tough to have a 1 size fits all answer to that. It depends on the team’s situation but, generally, it’s up to the coaches (and players) to either correct it or move on to another player who can.

(And before we head off on a thousand tangents- I’m not trying to pick a fight :) and I’m more focused on repeated problems game to game, not when a player just has a bad game or hits superior talent against an Ohio St type team).

Wow. You must be a couple of branch campus dummies. I predict Slade will be next in the portal and stated that Franklin is bad with wideouts. Doesn't mean Slade is a wideout. Two thoughts in one post, looks like that is too advance of a topic for a couple of branch campus dummies.<<

Interesting. The only time I've ever heard "branch campus dummies" used was by that school that tries to play football to our west.

Click his profile and read his previous posts. He's clearly a Pitt troll. He works too hard at it.

Can or will he play this week, or dose Franklin clean out lockers once in Portal?

Along those lines, just looked at a Mock Draft - 1st round. Only PSU player listed was YGM at 17 to the Cardinals.
What was the date of that mock 'Ro? It would seem his stock slid this season.

Hmmm. Didn't know that Bowers could apply for a 6th. That would be great But then I can't see the NCAA granting us another year with a medical.

Doesn't look that way since there is no indication that he sat out his first year due to injury, but you never know with the NCAA these days.

I thought he missed almost 2 years from that hip injury?

Played in three games in 2017, spread from the middle to the end of the season. Don't know how the NCAA will look at that. To qualify for a medical disability, game appearances have to be early in the season. But it's the new, kinder, gentler NCAA so who knows?

Definitely unfortunate. Shorter has been a big disappointment to date, but he has lots of potential. Nothing's to say he couldn't finally live up to it here, but nowadays, that kind of patience doesn't exist. The portal only amplifies that.

Who knows, though. Maybe the kid legitimately needs a change of scenery. If so, best of luck to him. No hard feelings.

It's tempting to write it all off as him failing to get it done on the field. It's tempting to blame the coaches for it. I imagine there's some combination here. Clearly, he isn't living up to the 5* billing. But clearly, our offense has become stale the past 2 seasons -- at least during conference play -- in terms of spreading the ball around and finding any kind of consistency in the passing game. That trend spans multiple QBs, so it's not merely a case of Clifford zeroing in too much on one or two guys.

Is it the WR coaches? Is it Rahne's schemes? Some combination? Again....hard to pinpoint as some random ass fan on a message board.

Really, really hope we can see guys like Dunmore, Washington, Kuntz, and Lambert step up and make a difference early next season. The talent is there. Plenty of other programs have no problems spreading the ball around to a variety of weapons. We haven't done that since 2017. Absolutely must get that fixed.

But, in the case of Shorter, something just wasn't right. Hopefully he gets it fixed and lives up to his potential.

I guess we'll know if he doesn't play vs. Rutgers.
i can’t imagine keeping a guy as a starter when he is in the portal, or maybe even giving him reps
Not a good message for the rest of the team.
