If you listen to Suriano's interviews when at PSU and now at Rutgers....you can see he is a no nonsense intense person......clearly wired differently than most of the loose PSU guys. Not better or worse.....just different. I think Nick choosing Penn State was a wrestling decision and choosing to go back home was a personal decision. He clearly was not happy. I have said it before.....If RBY doesn't win it......I hope Suriano wins the National Championship. I think he needs to relax and have fun and let it rip to do that.....but I hope he does...... #notahater
I hope Suriano finishes 33rd at Nationals. I have no issue with him leaving PSU, I do have issue with his continued pot shots at PSU. If he had left and just said something along the line that "PSU was not for me" or "I missed my lifestyle at home", etc, no problem. Kids sometimes make the wrong decision as to where to go to college (my daughter did), it happens, correct your mistake and move on. Instead every time he opens his mouth he complains about PSU and says something was taken from him...he says this when he admits he did not get on a mat again until June after he broke his ankle.
We should start a thread about this Suriano guy, has one ever been created?
I know he has said some stuff that could be considered if you read between the lines and made some assumptions, but overall I think he has been fairly respectful towards PSU. He is a kid for crying out loud, not a seasoned public official who can talk for hours and never let people know what he is thinking or what he means. He made a decision to leave a place. He is happier where he is. Somewhere along the line, in his discussions, that will come across.

In PA yes, but only by residents and you need to request a Consumption Permit within 24 hours of taking possession of the carcass.

We've only been to Jamaica (got married in Montego Bay) and Cancun. What islands do you suggest that are good to explore on your own, eat at local joints, meet locals, etc. that are safe? We didn't feel like we were in danger in Jamaica, but when we left the resort everywhere we went we were hounded. People trying to sell us stuff, steer us to stores, just very pushy.
Want to make another trip or two in the next couple of years. Anywhere Southwest flies is a bonus (Aruba, Dominican, Puerto Rico, Grand Cayman Belize, Jamaica, Turks and Caicos, Nassau, Costa Rica, etc.). Open to all, but Southwest would make travel much easier.

But the transfer happened almost 2 years ago so his age today is not really relevant.
At the time of the transfer he was over the age of 18, that makes him an adult, that allows him to vote and serve in the military. Sorry, people in college, even though we like to think of them as kids are legally adults. If they are not adults, take away their right to vote. I think we have all spent enough time discussing the guy no longer on the team.
Personally, I would not want to explore on my own in Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Antigua or really anywhere in Mexico. I probably wouldn't want to do that in the Bahamas either, similar to Jamaica with too many ppl trying to sell you drugs. There are some amazing resorts and private villas available at all of those locations, I just wouldn't want to venture out away from them very far. I felt safe in Cozumel driving around the island on a scooter, but there's just not that much to see. Turks and Caicos has some great little restaurants scattered around(conch fritters, yum); (we stayed on Provo), and it is still developing as a tourist destination compared to some other islands. Pretty short flight, which is appealing. I felt safest on Grand Cayman. We met waiters that had B.S. degrees; most educated locals I've seen, and very friendly. You will not be bothered by pushy salespersons on the beaches there either, as it is against the law; (this is a big plus!). They are really improving their roads and check out the new area of Camana Bay.
Hearing good things about Barbados, friendly locals, etc.
Headed to Belize next Jan and taking my fly rod!

Favorite islands of mine are Aruba, Curacao, Barbados and Nevis. All very friendly and safe. I did not Dominican at all and had very unfriendly staff at our hotel, which friends of mine that go there all the time found strange. But everyone says you generally have to stay on the resort in the DR.
since we are talking about travel plans, I’m headed to NOLA soon. Any good recommendations while I’m there?
Though Southwest doesn’t go there, St Lucia is both beautiful and safe. I would have no concerns getting around on my own.

Commander's Palace, a landmark that still seems to be firing on all cylinders. Plus it's in the Garden District, which is the nicest part of NOLA for me, and it's two blocks from the St. Charles street car line, so you can take that in also.

A couple of non-NOLA themed joints that are awesome:
Manolito on Dumaine in the French Quarter: incredible cuban cocktails, and a light menu. A place in the quarter that is frequented more by locals than tourists. Went there 4 times my last trip.
Casa Borrega - mexican. Best Mole I ever had. Might want to take an Uber, neighborhood is a bit iffy. But worth it.
On Bourbon Street many bars will have 3 for 1 beer specials, upstairs only. Go to the bar on the main floor and you get one beer. Go upstairs and they'll pop open 3 and slide them to you for the same price.
During the day, check out the French Quarter and the places on the streets just off Bourbon. There are a lot of cool shops and things to check out including Jackson Square. If you are there when Bourbon is crowded at night and you need to get to one end from the other, walk a block off Bourbon and bypass all the people.
Cafe du Monde is worth a trip. If you like good fried chicken, take a cab ride to Willie Mae's Scotch House. It's a short ride but long enough not to walk. You won't regret it.
Lots of really nice restaurants. Been several years, but Arnaud's Restaurant was really nice and the Bananas Foster was unbelievable. For a good lunch check out Mother's on Poydras St, just off of Bourbon is always crowded, often with the line out the door.
There is a Harrah's Casino, the Riverwalk, and the Audobon Aquarium.
Back to Bourbon, there are a lot of strip clubs. If you choose, choose wisely and stick with the bigger ones. The smaller ones, it may not be real clear if you are dealing with a female or not. They also hustle for drinks big time. There are also a lot of bars that have bands, many are often less crowded. Sometimes those are the best places with the best music rather than just pumping out music for crowds to dance to. Off the top of my head, the Funky Pirate is such a place. Small, empties out when the band takes a break and fills back up. It's also right near the end of Bourbon, at least the main strip of bars. Funky 544 used to be 544 Club. Not sure about the bands and music now, but it was a fun club (was before Katrina last time I went to that club). Cat's Meow is a famous karaoke bar. And don't forget Pat O'Briens for a Hurricane. They have an outdoor courtyard inside area. Nice atmosphere.
The best thing about Bourbon is you can go from bar to bar and walk down the street with your drink. Buying a cocktail or Big Ass Beer on the street and take it into bars can be cheaper. Bars stay open late (or all night), bands keep playing and there are rarely any clocks. It's easy to find yourself drinking until after 4 or 5 am and not realize it. Lastly, if you are in a crowded bar don't get into a fight or get the hell away from something if you see it developing. The police don't put up with fights and they'll throw guys on the ground, slam them in cuffs and throw them in a paddy wagon without asking questions. If you pay attention, you'll be fine. But you don't want to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
One vote for Cayman islands. Been a few years since I went, but it was friendly and safe with great beaches and terrific underwater visibility. Even some gentle snorkeling reveals a beautiful world below.
In addition to the large island of Grand Cayman, some folks visit the smaller islands, Little Cayman and Cayman Brac.

Fair enough but you didn't answer my question. What did he say? For the record, I could not care less about Suriano at this point. Square peg/round hole. I don't ever see him standing on top of the podium because he he doesn't have the fortitude to pull the trigger against top flight guys. I am not a fan and I believe he cost us Spencer Lee (who I like). That said, I don't recall any potshots from Jerzy Nick towards PSU. That's all I'm asking.
Google is your friend. Try some of his Flo interviews. I do not have the desire to watch him to grab exact quotes. Notice nobody on this board is saying I making stuff up regarding him taking potshots at PSU. One thing that is definitive, he waited until the last moment to announce he was transferring, basically preventing PSU from bringing a transfer in for last season.
"Google is my friend". Yea, ok, sure, thanks. Just figured maybe you'd have at least something to share in terms of potshots since you implied he did it multiple times. Apparently you don't. Again, I really don't care any longer and I wasn't even calling you out on the matter. I was just curious is all. If he took potshots at PSU, I missed them.
I've been to New Orleans over a dozen times. It's a dark, dirty, disgusting, revolting, sinful place. I love it and you will too. Some thoughts:
1. Upon arrival, bribe your driver to stop at the drive-thru daiquiri shop (!!) in Metairie. It's on the westbound side of Veterans, just a couple blocks west of the Causeway exit of I-10, about halfway between the airport and the Quarter. May as well set the tone early.
2. No matter what part of town you're in -- including the Garden District -- you're never far from a bad area. Be smart about where you walk, especially when the crowds thin out.
3. Leave your wallet in the hotel safe and be smart about engaging strangers. Lots of pickpockets, street hustlers, and people willing to "help" you, especially in the Quarter. And, again, bad areas might be closer than you think.
4. Some things you should definitely do:
- Garden District walking tour
- St. Louis Cathedral and the Cabildo (behind Jackson Square in the Quarter)
- Cemetery visit -- with a tour guide in daylight (gang hangout at night)
- WW2 Museum
- Aquarium
- NO Art Museum (in the mid-city Lakeview district, a welcome break from the touristy areas, and a good museum in a nice city park)
- Jazz Museum
- Mardi Gras World (if you want to see about the floats and parades)
- the dumb stuff you'd find hokey at home -- voodoo shop, fortune teller, etc.
- Preservation Hall show
- Pat O'Brien's dueling piano bar (Note, hurricanes are 15 oz of rum with an ounce of Hawaiian Punch for color -- the first 4 are great! After that, experiences may vary.)
- Some off-Bourbon classic bar in the Quarter
5. Don't bother:
- Jackson Brewery -- tourist trinket mall that was a brewery decades ago.
- Swamp tour -- seriously, why? Frigid in the winter, boiling and humid the rest of the year, and mosquitoes big enough to eat cats whole.
- Plantation tour -- basically the same mansion tour you'd see in the Garden District, but far outside the city.
- Causeway bridge -- a 25+ mi bridge across the lake, with nothing to see on the other side.
- French Market -- waste of time unless you're into that kind of thing. Touristy.
- The casinos -- as if you couldn't do that anywhere else.
6. Food:
- Pack a second stomach -- you'll need it. Portions are massive everywhere and often rich. Diet food in New Orleans is fried without a sauce.
- Classic restaurants -- Commander's is a must, after that get recommendations. Some older places have rested on their laurels for many years. Be selective, they're expensive and you can only eat so many enormous rich meals. Note, some have dress codes.
- Cheaper places -- Cafe du Monde (beignets), po boy shop, etc. Awesome food doesn't have to be expensive.
- Celebrity chefs -- tons of them. If you go, do at off-peak (such as 1:30 pm). Don't expect to see the chef, he's probably empire building or filming a TV show.
- A recommendation in the Quarter -- definitely eat at Bayona. A block off Bourbon (away from the river), so it's quieter. Well regarded by the residents.
Also, when you leave, allow a lot of time to get back to the airport. Only 1 freeway in that direction, bad traffic, and worse drivers even if sober (seriously, attitudes about drunk driving are very different there).

Dated a flight Attendant whose flight area was the Caribbean. Barbados was great but Saint Lucia was incredible. Incredible if you go to the far side of the Island …..opposite the airport. There is only one hotel on that side....near the rain forest. You can get yourself a small Chalet up there. Only one restaurant. There are Two petons ( extinct volcanoes )…….which results in being able to scuba out 50 ft....and the water is 40 ft. deep.......incredible views. The 90 minute ride over the mts. to get to the hotel is a trip back in time....amazing. Highly recommend. Great Memories
I was curious myself. Below is what I came up with. If he would have just stuck to not being happy in State College, oh well, it ain't for everyone. But it''s the comments about not liking how things were handled, they took something away from me, etc. that result in no love lost. I think we can all agree Suriano has regressed in his 1.5 years at The State University of New Jersey. I'm certainly not obsessing about him, but I'm certainly not rooting for him either (with the possible exception vs Fix, Micic, Pletcher, or Desanto depending on the team race).

Certainly you recall Jersey kid saying he was enjoying himself 100 times more at RU than PSU while collecting Male Athlete of the Year Award at RU.
