World Championships - Oct. 20-28

I am a pretty big Dake hater, but dang is he fun to watch when he wrestles foreginers.

Happy for J'Den to get over the hump, too! He's so dang talented that it's a bit puzzling when he loses and I feel I can only chalk it up to being mental.

US has real good chances in their Finals and Bronze matches for the most part. @61kg Bronze, Colon winning may have to be a sizeable upset -- EDIT: Nope, he won easily, wow.

The Cox semi had the nice added benefit of knocking the top ranked Russian at 92kg out of Bronze contention. Russia also has a couple really tough Bronze matches at 86kg and 125kg.

No head to head US vs Russia match-ups that I can see.

We've put ourselves in great position.

Colon Yakhkeshi (Iran)
  • Colon with the TD, looked to turn but lost his grip. 2-0
  • Colon goes double unders and drives out to make it 3-0
  • Colon goes behind for 2 more at edge. 5-0
  • Iran challenging the last TD, it looks like Colon stepped out. Yep. 3-1
  • Break
  • Colon with a leg and he finishes to go up 5-1
  • Yakhkeshi gets a step out, 5-2
  • Ohh sweet, Colon goes behind for two and then guts Yakhkeshi all over the mat to win bronze 13-2! First US medal!

Great win for Colon. Well-wrestled, smart match. Good points for the US. Going from an alternate team member to bronze medalist is an unexpected surprise.

I actually met a guy who used to train with YBR in Cuba. Wrestled in the states a bit, too. He just like, randomly popped into my club room last fall. They have an interesting life in Cuba.

Burroughs Chamizo rubber match
  • Neither guy looks interested in getting this thing going. Chamizo pushes JB away, both keeping distance
  • Chamizo goes on shot clock, JB goes up 1-0
  • Neither guy has shot through three minutes
  • Break
  • JB goes on clock and then gets a TD near edge but call is challenged. Upon review, it's 2 & 2, so JB now up 3-2. Burroughs doubled Chamizo off the mat and then what looked like a gut for another 2 by JB looks more like Chamizo getting 2 exposure. 3-2 JB
  • Chamizo awarded 1 for a very suspect step out, but okay. Challenged, but challenge lost. 4-3 Chamizo
  • JB gets a step out point off a great scramble now leads on criteria 4-4, :21 left
  • JB holds on for the bronze!

2 and 2 there for Burroughs or it's crooked!
EDIT: Shit, his hand hit. probably should be 1 Chamizo

Sidakov (RUS) leads 2-2 criteria after 1 in the Gold Medal match at 74kg.

Scoreless second period …..Sidakov wins Gold :(

Sidakov (RUS) up on Kentchadze (GEO) 2-2 in this 74kg final. US rooting Kentchadze here for team race reasons.
