World Championships - Oct. 20-28

Watching Burroughs medal presentation, why are there two Bronze medalists? I am confused.

Everyone has been saying Taylor has been on a mission, a long hard but intensely focused journey with one goal and end. I agree:

Gwiz Sumit (India)
  • Sumit already hit with a yellow for a hand to the face
  • Step out, Gwiz up 1-0
  • Not much action so far.
  • Gwiz comes up empty on an inside single.
  • Sumit on the clock. And now it's 2-0 Gwiz
  • Gwiz in deep and easily finishes, up 4-0 just before break
  • Break
  • Sumit gets behind and makes it 5-2. Sumit with two cautions now.
  • Gwiz gets in on the right leg and patiently works it for another takedown to make it 7-2 with :41 left
  • And that's how it's going to end, Gwiz a bronze medalist!
US nearly perfect today, only the Stieber and Gilman losses. Leading Russia in team race, not clear by how much.

Russia's Khizriev losing his bronze medal match 5-2, which bodes well for US team title hopes. 11-2 and that's that for Sunday wrestling.

US converts on all four medal attempts (1 gold, 3 bronze), and puts two more into tomorrow's finals, guaranteeing at least a silver for Cox and Dake, and Gilman will wrestle for bronze. That's an historically great day for USA wrestling, and we haven't even gotten to Snyder and Green yet.

I hope Mike C asks Foley about how much folkstyle in high school and college is holding US freestyle back.
After this tournament, US freestyle dancers are signing up for folk dance lessons. #do-si-do :)

Dake and Taylor will both be on the podium again (at different weights) after a hiatus. Both once more are dominant and ruling the roost. Here is a flashback to many moons ago of the two of them.

As much as these two have grown- in weight- throughout college and post-college, it'd be interesting to see the names of some of the other wrestlers in that bracket. That had to be one of the first 2-3 junior weights or a cadet weight under 112.
