World Championships - Oct. 20-28

Fun fact because I can’t help myself:

The NLWC now has twice as many senior-level gold medals since Cael arrived in Happy Valley (2) as the Hawkeye Wrestling Club has in the entire 21st century.

EDITED DUE TO POOR READING COMPREHENSION ON MY PART

2006 Cadet - 98 Results
1st Place - David Taylor of Ohio
2nd Place - Mark Rappo of Pennsylvania
3rd Place - Kyle Dake of New York
4th Place - Laddie Rupp of Oklahoma
5th Place - Schuyler Swanton of Florida
6th Place - Alan Waters of Missouri
7th Place - BJ Futrell of Illinois
8th Place - Josh Kriemier of Colorado

Mango, Stieber, Oliver, and Andrew Alton also won that year.

Thanks, El-Jefe! Interesting to see that out of the names that I recognize- Rappo, Rupp. Watters, and Futrell- I don't think any of those guys ever wrestled heavier than 141 in college. Now, Dake is wrestling around 174 and DT is around 189.

I think your numbers are off.

NLWC also has a World Silver from Franklin Gomez and an Olympic Silver from Jaime Espinal.

HWC has World silvers from Mike Zadick and Thomas Gilman, and a World Gold from Bill Zadick.

Zadick has one Gold. Varner and DT have one each which equals exactly twice as many. Where is he off?

McDonough also won -- I missed that above.

A few other interesting names -- Kindig 2nd to Oliver, Chris Perry took 4th, a few others.

I';m not too concerned about who represents who club wise. Team USA needs as many great coaches and training environments as possible. Cael,Brands,Tom Ryan,Koll,..... they are all of OUR coaches at this level. We can all claim all of them as they wrestle for our team. Who doesn't love watching Kyle Dake beat some Russian Butt? I can't wait to watch Snyder make that Russian coach eat his words. JB showed some serious heart today and reminded us again why he will always be one of the all time greats. Ban's boy Colon proved he belonged on the world stage. I'm proud as hell of our entire team and feel really bad for Logie Bear because you know he wanted to contribute to the storm. This has been a team effort and these guys really support one another.

I don't gather that tikk is the type to get hype over some internet likes, but nevertheless, I'm off to work on that.
Heh, I thought Rivals malfunctioned just now with all those notifications. Appreciated but yeah, that's not why I was so active here this weekend. Just repaying for the many times I came here looking for match details and reading others' pbps. Would've preferred a western hemisphere time zone but it is what it is.

Plus, seeing David Taylor finally rewarded for all the work he's put in made it enjoyable. I can't think of an athlete as single-mindedly locked onto such a high goal. Watching him run that gauntlet was seriously memorable fan stuff. Fun to be here sharing that with the people who really get what it all means.

I loved listening how Casey coached David through the match. Great team work, always Positive. Same thing happened between Cody and Berge at Jrs. Cody told him 30 seconds, Brady shot and came through the middle with Cody giving step by step commands, all in a calm voice. Brady got the 2 pts. We are blessed with the staff we have!

Killer of a loss for team USA. With all due respect to the former medalists, I can’t help but notice 65 & 70 kg has 2 nice Zain and Jason sizes opportunities next year....
At the very least they won't have guys waiting for them in the finals, everyone will go through the same brackets. EDIT: I misread implications of Garcia losing to the Russian; Green still alive, didn't mean any disrespect to Green.

And people can finally dispense with the stupid notion that James Green was somehow a better wrestler than Taylor because he had a world medal and DT did not. Stupid in the first place, but really stupid in that case

1/4 Final
Kyle Snyder (USA) vs. Ruano (ITA)
5:29 T2 Snyder 2-0
5:10 SO Ruano 2-1
4:57 SO Ruano 2-2
4:25 T2 Snyder 4-2
4:00 T2 Snyder 6-2
3:06 SO Snyder 7-2
end of 1st

2:00 T2 Snyder 9-2
1:09 T2 Snyder 11-2
Kyle gets in late, but can’t finish. 11-2 Semi Finals!

(Sadulaev wins 10-0)

Yea, DT's Gold will further diminish what little trolling material is left out there, lol.

Now if they could only win a championship at 285!

I never understood the trolling of DT to begin with. Even before his world gold he had accomplished more than all but a tiny fraction of a percent of the people who have ever wrestled. His career was incredible before yesterday. Now with a world gold at the senior level there is hardly anything left (Olympic gold) for him to capture and he will have done it all.

Months from now... "Yeah, he won a world championship, but he gave up a few takedowns. Kyle Dake, on the other hand..."

So what...let 'em troll. If that stuff worries anyone, you'll spend your entire life feeling offended, as there's tons of crazy, unreasonable folks out there.

Focus on DT and his success, and the next guy, and his success, and on and on...grateful and thankful the NLWC, or the Penn State Wrestling team, or whatever, is where they are today. :)

No different than the trolling of Metcalf, Mocco, Schlatter, et al. The guys at the top have very few holes to poke at... So people poke the same ones.

I will never understand any college coach being judged by future international results. Different sport and different level. I want my college coach to produce results for my college team. I would rather my team have NCAA team titles than guys who later win World Medals but never bring home the bacon while at my school. I do think international results help with recruitment of elite athletes, but that is pretty much it.

Green not making day 2 of his bracket makes this one one tough on the US. Possible but tough. Pretty sad match to watch, JG is so explosive it kills me to watch him hang around and counter wrestle. Hes to good for that.

after watching this video, I should add this to the other "flo doc" thread

....when cael stops giving credit to casey......

I dont know how Casey could get more credit out in the public domain because Caels shadow is so big, but Casey is the man. We as PSU fans should be so appreciative each and every day he laces them up with the blue and white.

Interesting comment about Cael's shadow...though I see quite the opposite. One aspect about leadership is delegating, and if one can't do that (i.e. wants to control everything), they're more a manager than a leader...for those that know the difference.

Thing is...with the workload it takes to run the NLWC, AND the Penn State program, there's plenty of "work" for Cael, Casey, Cody, Jake, Adam, Jess, and on and on. What Cael has done, that some don't see, is recognize the gifts that each of these folks have (things they do better than Cael), and then create an organization that utilizes the best of each person. It's a well-oiled machine, because Cael is humble enough and trusting enough to allow everyone to spread their wings. And spread 'em, they do.

In the context of World's, Casey's the man...make no mistake.
