If true..makes me even more excited than I already was for Lee. Also, if true, Cortez better start on his descent plan and try Keener
I'm all about lee, but I also find that score a little hard to believe. I have been saying that Lee is a high AA contender but jeez......If that is true and Cortez is healthy and gave it his all, I will predict Lee is Title Contender.
Lee's biggest problem with Cortez is being underneath. If Lee manages to stay out of the bottom position, I think he is a fair amount better than Cortez on their feet. Conversely, Cortez has a weakness on his feet and his strength is the top position. So the score is not unbelievable to me.
14-1 isnt just a take em down let em up match. that is a match that you got worked from top pretty hard. Hard to believe unless NLee was wearing his magic man socks or Cortez was not ready to go.
This is the only result I have right now. Confirmed by multiple people. Only other thing I heard was 197 is split. No scores provided.
Bopper is the one who broke the Suriano story and was right..so I take his info as good info
14-1 is a pretty insane score for sure. Not to question the source, but since we have nothing official on it, I am going to remain somewhat skeptical. Even still, I have thought Lee will likely be our best option.
It is certainly possible that Lee is very good and 141 is just a bad weight for Cortez. Those two things could lead to a lopsided score. If Lee performed that well, I would imagine he starts opening night against Army.

If true..what's even more impressive is that it's against a guy (Cortez) that has to know him. Usually these wrestle offs are closer due to familiarty, knowing stengths and weekness, etc.
If he would have won 5-3, I would have been impressed. If this is true, this screams high AA caliber
There is absolutely no reason Nick Lee cannot be a top 5 guy at 141 this year.

Waiting for news. Asked last week, and was told that several would be going to the Clarion Open (11/5), but it would be a decision made later this week. Will let you know.
My experience with RS's and back-ups going to tournaments is that it's very fluid, even up to the day of the tournament. That's the reason for the spotty info in the past, and really not much has changed. Will know more tomorrow.
Ashnault is coming off a major injury. No one would be surprised if Heil lost a close match to anyone in the top five or six.
I'd probably put Jack and McKenna ahead of him now but Lee can go toe to toe with anyone else you listed.
I’m not doubting you. I’d be stupid to do that after watching Cenzo slowly crawl up the rankings then take out IMAR for the National Championship. If Lee repeated that, should I really be shocked?
What I have been told is Lee has developed a brutal top game. 14 - 1 would be indicative of a tough top game.
I would think Zain took him under his wing if that’s the case. If that top game includes a bow and arrow, well .....
Yes, but the weight is just so stocked with talent, might be the deepest weight class this year? I failed to even mention others like Chad Red (Nick knows him well) and a Tommy Thorn , Would take a heck of a regular season and draw for Nick Lee to be Top 5 THIS year IMO.
We will just have to find out. How many predicted Cenzo as NCAA champ? Nick Lee is exciting, has great upside and we will see how he does. I suspect he does better than you and others might think.
I guess as we develop our depth these type of battles will become more normal.

You have to pull the shirt. That will be the only way to have your 8 scoring wrestlers!
That's totally false.
Lee hasn't developed anything while at PSU/NLWC, because:
1. Carl/Bael can't coach.
2. Carl/Bael only recruits #1s.

I know you are being facetious as my Mom would say, but how can you tell he hasn't developed? He hasn't had a chance to really prove himself. Hard to gauge where he is at.
If Lee really won that big, it likely just means that Lee is that good, not that Cortez hasn't grown and improved in his time here. I still think Cortez will be a top 10 guy and surprise people if he gets a chance to wrestle a whole year healthy.
Pretty sure their were some who wanted that shirt pulled to replace Guillibon last season.

If the Lee/Cortez result is accurate that makes for a very interesting decision for the staff and Cortez:
1. Start Lee now, go all in and pull the shirt
2. Have Lee wrestle in Opens and the Scuffle and make a decision in January
3. If you are Cortez and got handled by that score, do you decide to wrestle in Opens and transfer out for the Spring. Do you try to go 133? If beaten that handily by Lee, unless you can make 133, you are looking at a college career of never wrestling a full season.

I think you wrestle him to help with the world dominance plan down the road where he can RS and one of the other studs can wrestle.

You know on that, now that we got Ben for greco, I hope we soon make a womens wrestling hire with the NLWC. I know we cant be first in this area, but I would like us to lead in it.

Was giving him the benefit of the doubt, but you may be right. Good thing is that if Cortez is anywhere near as good as I think he is, and Lee beat him that easily, doesn't make non-PSU folks feel good.
