FB Recruiting Inside the Den - Wide receiver recruiting, flip targets, and more

Hello everyone, welcome into Inside the Den, a little bit of a less formal version of our NitBits that we often do.

There's a bit of a recruiting lull currently with the dead period but don't worry, things will start picking back up soon. On top of that, the Big Ten Media Days are next week in Indianapolis and most importantly, College Football 25 is out, not sure how many gamers we have on the board, but I'm personally excited about that.

With that, let's get into it...

What is happening at WR?
So, many are asking what is going on at the wide receiver position for Penn State on the recruiting trail? The Nittany Lions last week lost a pair of recruitments, one with in-state target Lex Cyrus and the other being Taz Williams out of Texas.

When it comes to Lex Cyrus, it should be stated that that was not an NIL related loss. While I believe South Carolina offered a bigger NIL package than Penn State, from my understanding, it was pretty close from an NIL standpoint. If NIL played any sort of factor in his decision, it was a minimal one. Personally, I think that makes it a bit of a tougher loss for Penn State.

Brooks non-issue

Apparently, AB popped for Adderall at U23s and needed a temporary waiver to compete at trials. Still not 100% sure he'll be cleared for the Olympics, though I suspect he will. He apparently has a script, but did not file paperwork properly (or something like that).

I've always thought it was weird that such a commonly prescribed drug without obvious performance enhancing capabilities is on the banned list. Why not ban coffee while we're at it? Would really suck if this keeps him out.

Copa America Final

Absolute shit show before the game with crowd control and security. The South American Federation (CONMEBOl) getting most of the criticism, but planning the final for Miami probably not the best idea.

They probably avoided a true disaster - like Heysel or Hillsborough - by just letting the ticketless stream through to allow the crowd crush to dissipate. There are fans with tickets saying security won’t remove people clearly taking their seats. Security should be removing those people all game and throwing them in the cooler for the night at least.

Formula 1

my daughter, for some reason, has really gotten into F1. It started with the Netflix series and has grown from there. She is a Lewis Hamilton fan and I am more in the area of "anyone but Verstappen" (although, one of the coolest names in professional sports). She also likes the drama playing out off track. For anyone who doesn't know, Hamilton is a hall of fame-r who spent his career with Mercedes. Red Bull has dominated the last few years with Verstappen. Mercedes is trying to catch up and other has been a lot of controversy on if their problems are car or driver based. So Hamilton decided to move on. He signed with Ferrari for next year but is still racing for Mercedes in 2024. Yesterday, he won in a Mercedes at Silverstone (British Grand Prix) in a very emotional event. He has mixed emotions about leaving and the win allowed him to celebrate with Mercedes, at least, one last time. Plus, he's a Brit so winning at home was big.

Anyway, all of that to say that Brad Pitt (with Hamilton as a producer) are releasing a movie in 2025. The teaser was just released and it looks awesome.

OT: Are we seeing the Cleveland Guardians "Waterloo?"

The red-hot Guardians, still sitting atop the Central Division, have just lost a series to lowly Detroit, along with several other recent series, in a stretch of sub-.500 baseball, which seems to flag their "weak link" - starting pitching.

Nearing the half way point, the Guards are desperate for more starting pitching, plus a couple of upgrades on the offensive side of the ledger, if they are to halt the current slide, that could take them just out of contention.

OTOH, there are a couple of minor league pitchers close to being ready to come up to the parent team....saviours? And while theres been lots of talk about possible pitchers to be brought in via the trade route, no clear answers stand out.

Its certainly possible that this is just a fluke, where the starters under-perform, and the clutch hits stop happening. But it looks a lot more serious than that.
