Willie's Crystal Ball Predictions

@smalls103 If this is not allowed because it's behind a paywall, let me know and I'll delete it.

I love Willie's Crystal Ball Predictions, as I like those kind of projections over rankings, as they are just someone picking what they thing will happen versus rankings that are just based on pure results that have been seen up to that point.

Willie now has us at 171 points (He has Iowa 5th)

Davis 4th
Nagao 5th
Beau 1st
Kasak 7th
Haines 2nd (Shapiro 1st)
Messenbrink 3rd
Starrocci 1st
Truax 3rd
Brooks 1st
Kerkvliet 1st

Cael Sanderson going for his 200th PSU coaching win tonight.

I realize it's Iowa week and I probably missed it in another thread, but I think it deserves it's own thread. The great Cael Sanderson is going for PSU coaching win # 200 tonight. So grateful he is our head wrestling coach!

Wrestling Upsets, Surprises & Scares (2023-24 season)

Seems like someone here used to post a weekly list of upsets and surprises that I found helpful to keep up with outcomes I missed (I’m not thinking of the wrestlestat version).

I added “scares” to the title mostly to provide another “s” so the list abbreviates as W.U.S.S. in a nod to a certain recently graduated PA wrestler who was guaranteed to be a 4 time nat’l champ until he wasn’t. But it can also refer to unexpectedly close matches or notable injuries on or off the mat (e.g., Wittlake).

Here are a few WUSS list entries for me this week so far:
  • Kyle Snyder losing to Azarpira at the Zagreb Open 🙁
  • Lehigh beating Cornell 17-16
  • Glazier majoring Allred
  • Robb gassing hard against Franek despite starting the season so strong
  • Anthony Noto (#1) losing to Diego Sotelo (#24) -- both the loss and the 11-8 margin (I think Spencer Lee may be the only other person to put that many points on Noto, though in the 2-pt takedown era)

Flo rankings this week

125-Davis-#2
133-Nagao-#5
141-Bartlett-#1
149-Kasak-#12
157-Haines-#1
165-Mesenbrink-#7
174-Starocci-#1
184-Truax-#7
197-AB-#1
Heavy-Kerk-#1

So 5 number 1’s is pretty decent I would say.

Interesting is that number 2 at 157 is Vinny Zerban from N. CO who beat Levi early last year. He has just continued to get better and has become a real threat at this weight. I’m sure Levi would like a rematch with him as well
