Got to tip your hat to Hawkeyes, Buckeyes & Cowboys this morning.

They're not sitting around & sulking. Their winning their wrestlebacks.

Iowa 3-0 already this morning.

Too little, too late for Iowa relative to the title, but they could do some yeoman's work in tracking down daO$U in the Consi Finals.

Huh? Why do you say that? Gable won 7 of his first 8 at Iowa (he was named HC after Iowa won it's 2nd all-time and back-to-back National Championship in 1976 under Gary Kurdelmeier, the guy who hired Gable). Gable did not win his first year as HC in 1977 and then won 9 straight. Cael has won 6 in his first 8 years at PSU, which is very comparable. Gable retired in 1997 after a 21 year career having won 15 National Championships. The driving factor to whether Cael gets to 15 Career National Championships appears to be how long he wants to stay coaching....but at this point and at this rate, 15 National Championships appears to be well within Cael's grasp at PSU (which is the precise reason he said he choose to leave his alma mater, ISU, and come to PSU -- i.e., because the "unique advantages" that PSU offered would allow him to build an unassailable dynasty and win championships....his words have proven prophetic and I think he's a long way from being done at this point. To use Cael's words, he still looks like he's "having fun out there" and with the kids!).

But claiming Cael will never touch Gable's accomplishments at Iowa is a bit premature at this point imho.

Exactly... don't listen to him and what he says. Many have put him on ignore. He makes crazy outlandish statements and has been proven wrong. Yet comes back and makes even more silly statements and gets proven wrong again. Doesn't seem to stop him. Just take what he says with a a grain of salt. Cael has a good chance to beat Gable's record if he wishes. As you said it will depend how long he wants to coach. He does seem to be enjoying it and being around the kids developing them and helping them attain their dream. Also helps have the NLWC there as well I believe. Best thing is for everyone to just enjoy this great time in PSU Wrestling.

165:
Isaac Jordan (Wisky) over Daniel Lewis (Mizzou), 8-1
Logan Massa (Mich) over Chandler Rogers (Ok St), 10-4

Watching the Brooks/MyMart match on ESPN3......MyMart just called for Stalling midway through 1st - shocking! Now Brooks gets the TD with about a minute to go in 1st. Brooks up 2-0 with 1:12 RT-adv going into 2nd. Brooks will be down.

Brooks escapes and leads 3-0. Now MyMart running out of ties, going backwards and running off the mat repeatedly - go figure! MyMart called for a 2nd Stalling point Brooks, now up 4-0!

Brooks with 3 min of RT over Martin. Martin had no answer or fight against Brooks in any of their matches. I dont understand how he beat Nickal 2 times and Brooks didnt even sniff the 2nd period. Body type differences or what? Crazy

Nevills falls to Walz, 5-3.

Just let him get to his legs a little too easily on that one. Almost had a takedown late but wasn't able to finish it

MyMart gets a TD and then Brooks escapes. 2nd ends 5-2.

MyMart completely gassed and gets ridden out in the 3rd (does absolutely nothing and is lucky he didn't get dinged for several more stalling calls). Brooks gets RT point with almost 3 minutes of RT.....final 6-2. Another "stall-fest", only look to counter out of Martin....this guy is going to go 1 and done in terms of Championships the way he wrestles - he sucks, that would be his 11th loss this year!

Nevills vs. Ty Walz (VT)

Per 1
Walz gets a TD, 0-2. Nick up and out (basically cut), 1-2. 2 min left. Walz reaches, nothing. Lot of collar ties. Great scramble, but stopped for a PD. End RT at 17 sec for Walz

Per 2
Nevills in bottom. He's up, and eventually cut, 2-2. Walz in on a single, they scramble, Walz gets the other leg and the TD, 2-4. Nevills to his feet and he's out at 1:10, 3-4. Walz in deep on the right leg, they scramble, and a stalemate at 7 sec. Nick has to get a bit more active on his offense. End RT at 35 sec for Walz

Per 3
Walz takes bottom. He's up quickly, peels hands and is out in 3 sec, 3-5. Nevills shoots in on a leg, they scramble, and a stalemate with 1:15 left. Walz in on a double, Nevills sprawls and avoids it, Nevills tries to counter, nearly gets it, nothing. 30 sec left. Nick tries to shoot, blocked. He shoots again, Walz sprawls, and that's it.

Nevills will wrestle for 5th place.

Nevills wrestled well. Thought the stalemate in the 3rd was a little quick, but oh well. Liked seeing Nevills up his level a little bit.

Byers just said that at this point, regardless of what Ohio St and Ok. St do, if PSU wins two titles tonight, it will clinch the team championship.

Meh, Nick failed to shoot in the match and continues to allow opponents low on his ankles. He has some work to do for next year if he wants to get to the top of the podium. That includes pushing the action a little.

if you believe Nolf and zain win tonight the team score is locked up. if not got to wait a few more matches to make it official

Almost clinched now. A couple more nonpins by OSU and OSU and it's done.

Edit: If Gilman isn't pinned OSU is done.

Edit: OSU is done.

This will be PSU's 8th National Title (1921, 1953, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017) - here is a direct citation to this at PSU's Official Athletic Website, HIT THIS HOTLINK. Essentially, this win will tie PSU with Iowa State with 8 all-time and #3 in the nation in this category behind Okie State and Iowa. Not sure, but I think we may have already passed ISU in terms of all-time Individual Championships won and All-Americans to be #3 all-time alone in these categories, but not positive on that one.

This is akin to Pitt claiming 9 football championships. The NCAA credits Penn State with 6 wrestling team titles prior to this year. Same goes for the Penn State Wrestling media guide. That is the official count.

I feel that in the last month or so and including here at NCAAs he's gone away a bit from his pace and taking a high number of shots (for a heavyweight)

It is pretty crazy the results are so different depending on matchup
