Will talk about Suriano stuff on show tomorrow. obviously there a few miscommunication/semantic type things that isn't quite suited for twitter. i'll explain what i know (and don't know) tomorrow. although i'll just tell ya up front that nothing seems certain at this point.

You really want your Slush Fund envelope immediately on the 1st this month, don't you?

That's fair. Kinnick can't always look like this:

That is a dedicated Chance Marsteller fan club that showed up for his OKST debut, unreal dedication. ;)

Besides, out of all the things that you could choose from to poke back, attendance for Hawkeye wrestling probably has the least sting to it.

*Please don't take this as an invitation to try harder...🙏🙏

I’m sure many like Gilman now just because he is at NLWC instead of Iowa but I think more like him because he also seems to have grown up. His actions now compared to when he was a college athlete at Iowa seem to be night and day. I think those changes plus being apart of NLWC are why people came around and now support him. I’m pretty sure that if Suriano came and completely bought in to the PSU way and grew up in a similar fashion to Gilman that most of his detractors would come around as well.
Similar to Metcalf, Gilman just needed some time away from the Iowa program to be deprogrammed and acclimated back into a civil society.

apologies for choosing a platform in which it would better be explained.

what's your ****ing point?
Suriano to PSU sounds great for PSU fans, but if he’s really doing a “Vision Quest” to capitalize on NIL, and beat Spencer, being at PSU might hurt that narrative. Because he may have to see him 3 times in the season, depending on the schedule. Dual Meet, Big Tens and then NCAAs. Beating Spencer 2 times before NCAAs won’t build up to an epic showdown in the NCAA finals. And losing to him twice won’t inspire a lot of confidence that he can win in the NCAA finals and will only hurt his seed. Only seeing him in the NCAA finals would be the best route. So maybe he goes somewhere out of conference so he only can see him in the finals.

I don’t believe the bolded part is true.

I have never heard anyone say, “Cenzo’s NCAA Finals wins over IMar would’ve been so much more epic if only they wouldn’t have wrestled earlier in the year!” Same for Bo’s 2018 win over Myles or Cassar’s win over Gable.

Anybody who beats Spencer would have an epic win no matter what. And by coming to PSU, the 125 win would likely lead to a team win, and a team-rivalry win, thereby making the 125 win even more epic, a la 2018 Bo.

Also, epicness is the icing on the cake. Winning is still the main thing. Coming to PSU would make the win more likely.

Dake v dt was pretty epic on its 2 occasions

While we are on the subject, where does "The First Word" stream?
Rokfin. It's free when live. You just need to make a Rokfin login. It's on Matscouts page once on Rokfin. Usually see a tweet from Willie about 5-10 min before they go live

After further reflection, a couple points.

1) I hope Spencer Lee got multiple surgeon’s opinions. I want him to be able to walk without pain as an old man. To carry his kids on his shoulders without gritting his teeth.

2) I want Nick Suriano to graduate from Penn State. If he goes to Sunkist after that, great. He should do whatever is best for him.
There is NO doubt he will do what he thinks is best for him. Team player NOT.

As he should, especially in the times of NIL. His coming to PSU will happen if it is mutually beneficial to both parties. I don't see anything wrong with that unless he originally left on bad terms with his teammates in which case his return would be disruptive to the team. But if Cael and the team have no heartburn with his return then I sure don't.

Good attitude. A guy should think twice before taking strong sides in his two friends’ friendship/marital squabbles. Because they’ll forgive each other, but they won’t forgive the outsider. And then the outsider becomes the dork stuck in a grudge over something that literally nobody cares about anymore.

You guys should give it a listen. Surianos and Sandersons are definitely talking. My take away is WTT factors heavily. But not as heavily as ego.

Also speculation that fix may go 125 too.

Fix and Suriano at 125 would be incredible.

I just want to see a healthy (as possible) Spencer Lee wrestle people who are even remotely on his level. Doesn't seem like that has happened for a few years now.

I don't even care what it does for the team race, I just want to see a wrestler as great as Spencer get pushed by something other than his own injuries.

Willie's Cael story was funny, for sure. There is, as they said, definitely smoke.

Not if it looks like THIS.
I hear you but that's not necessarily enough if Lee wins 125 anyway.

PSU lost last year by 15.5 pts.
2018 finalist Suriano outscored 2021 Howard by 19.0 pts.

So far so good -- but if we give those 4 pts back to Iowa (by Fix dropping) then it's not enough, still need more points from somewhere.

Bartlett and Kerk will score more -- especially if Steveson is done.

Otherwise we would absolutely need all of our champs to repeat. And they're all capable. But stuff happens at the NCAA Tournament.

Micic returning would help. DeSanto is not beating him.

I've referred to @smalls103 initial projections a few times and made a few key adjustments. He had Penn State up 131 to 114 on placement BUT the following considerations change things:

1. Kemerer IS coming back, that's +10.5 points. He had Kennedy at 8th (5.5) and Kemerer would be 2nd I imagine.
2. Berge and Dellavecchia are done. We lost all our 157 points and Young gets 3.5 more (moving from 8th to 6th) We lose 4.5. That's 8 points.

Those 2 things alone swing Iowa as the favorite again (128 to 126.5)

Now after that? There are probably 100 things both sides disagree with and 100 other things that can be adjusted. For example, we had all 4 champs start as #1, SVN as 5th, that's pretty rosy. But on the flip side, can Max Dean (Beard right now) get better than 8th? He's MUCH better at folk than free (example, he beat Bonaccorsi 6-0 in 2019 before beating MyMar) Can Kerkvliet jump Parris/Cass? Iowa has Bull at 5th (I don't think that's unfair at this point tbh) but I bet they disagree with that. Can they get a podium finish out of Murin/Assad?

Keep in mind, Iowa DID outbonus us last year (27 to 17). All that considered, without Suriano, Iowa is the favorite over us. We'd need to overachieve quite a bit.

Stuff happens at the tournament bottom line. I love the was @js8793 described Joe Lee the more I think about it. He can be a huge asset in the tournament if he's healthy. But very much he's boom or bust, bad weekend and he 0-2s .. good weekend and can he pull some kind of Pat McKee run?

If Suriano does indeed return to PSU, can we just have Iowa and PSU wrestle each other every Friday night until BIG10's?

I know that I would be happier than a pig in shit to watch these two teams battling it out all winter long.

Can't wait to see how this year unfolds!

We need Suriano to return for you to consider us a worthy weekly adversary? Come on, let's do it anyways 😜
