Well I watched the Iowa State pod cast thing and those guys were saying everyone knows somebody that knows somebody that knows somebody who is talking to these kids. They need to ratchet this shit in before it gets out of hand. Only like ten schools can afford nil in wrestling the rest are screwed. That isn't good for the sport. I agree with a lot of what they were saying on the pod cast. I'd post it if I knew how lol
Who is "they"?

Because the NCAA has been trying to ratchet this shit for their entire existence. The courts told them they couldn't anymore.

I believe he left Minnesota in the discussion because he genuinely likes his coaches and his teammates.

Nagao is a smart guy who recognizes his own potential. I believe he will choose Penn State and the NLWC because they will provide him with the best opportunity to be a 3-time NCAA Champion, win an Olympic gold medal, and be a World Champion.
Listening to his interview with Basch, I tend to agree with you. He kept saying how he wants to give himself the best opportunity to reach his wrestling goals. If that’s really his motivation, PSU is really the only choice.

I agree with Willy's rant on benefits all student athletes receive (scholarships +) and the possible demise of college sports as we know it. He had an interesting take on woman's programs having an uphill battle...

College sports as we have come to know it won't be around much longer. I'm not sure where nil leads but it's going to change sports and especially second and third tier ones. Hopefully they can figure out how the changes can help the athletes without destroying lower level programs.
I’m of the same opinion I don’t even think college as a whole survives

I don’t see him going back to Minnesota and Cornell doesn’t make a ton of sense with Vito at 133 and Cornella at 141. I really really hope he comes to PSU and he seems like an absolutely perfect fit but I have a bad feeling that he ends up at Iowa. No logic involved in my thinking, just a gut feeling that I highly dislike. I’m also a big hockey fan and last season on the run to the cup us Avs fans were big into the reverse jinx so I might be leaning into that a bit as well
Cannon is clearly a good back up plan. It's ok either way.

I think they needs to include administrators and coaches. Everyone needs to sit down and ask how they are going to grow the sport period not just for a few schools. I love that we get top notch talent but I don't want to see smaller schools losing out. What point do I have as a coach, in some small conference, to put all my effort into developing a recruit then he walks away two years later because he AA at nationals and not is looking elsewhere. I don't havw any answers but I do think there are plenty of questions the coaches should be asking themselves before this shit gets worse. Hell over half the buffalo team and ediborough teams are in the portal. That's a problem even if they aren't all top tier talent

I would like to know when nil went from a student being able to get money from their school for their own likeness to turning into a free agency deal that includes going wherever the most cash is. The NCAA can still determine and control how often and what is reasonable for transfers. If a kid wants to transfer due to a coach leaving or some other hardship fine but other than that too bad you chose a school you stay. If you can get nil for your likeness because you earned it then fine. This jumping schools for cash is B's in my opinion and it will only get worse moving forward. I'm willing to bet next year twice as many wrestlers will be in the portal. I think the fine line between schools and outside sources for nil has been blurred to say the least.

They did reel it in from unlimited transfers to 1 without penalty. I have no problem with a kid wanting to explore better options.
As far as jumping schools for cash. It is an interesting concept to argue a young adult should have restrictions on his income potential.
Some sort of equilibrium will be found and a new normal will set in. However, as before, as is now and as will be - if you aren't competing as hard as you can within the existing parameters then you aren't really trying.

Regarding boosters that will pay huge $ just to see an athlete wear the uniform they want them in, it's no different than business. There is a total addressable market for silly people just like there is a TAM for semiconductors. Look at Beaver Stadium on game day and compare it to Rec Hall on dual day. There is a way bigger market for silly money in the parking lots around Beaver Stadium than the parking garages around Rec Hall. I just think the numbers being thrown around are inflated in just about every way possible. I doubt that Bernie Truax has a $70,000 tax bill next April. I'd bet my tax bill on it.

What is the ROI for anything we really spend money on in life lol? Vacations? Good Food, Parties. Tickets for Sports? It's just your personal happiness. Fans love sports, we surely all do and want their team to be good. If we only spent money on actual stuff that is productive or help us improve our net worth, we would all live pretty boring lives.
I love this. It reminds me of some great advice I got a long time ago.
"Lease your toys and buy your memories."
What it really means is to value the things that don't have a price tag. Don't be house poor. Don't feel the need to get a new car every couple years. Don't fill your garage with stuff you'll hardly use. Save your money and invest in yourself and your family.
Then when the time is right, you have the resources to make memories that will last beyond your life.

If that is watching an athlete step on the mat and knowing that you are responsible for that happening, so be it. I just don't think there are a lot of those guys floating around.
If you had an extra $150,000 liquid, would you? Would you take a shot at a yearling that it might make it to The Kentucky Derby in two years? Most people that have that kind of money available didn't acquire it by spending in that way.

As far as I know, NIL has never involved students getting money directly from their school. Schools can be involved in coordinating/facilitating the deals, but the money was always coming from some third party/outside source for the athlete's name, image, or likeness.

As for transfers, I have a hard time reconciling wanting the student-athletes to be treated as students more than athletes, but then putting restrictions on them that no other student has (like regulating transfers).

Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don't need. We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off.

He's on Rutgers' roster, right?

I totally just saw Aaron Nagao with all our coaches outside K2Roots.
Good vibe or bad?

I don't see how this kid doesn't see a perfect fit here, and I mean perfect! I also don't get the impression he can be bought.

My 39.7% accurate crystal ball, indicates next week will bring with it very good news for us fans. Aaron will only be one part of the good news.
